Chapter 1068: Phantasm Fish
Chapter 1068: Phantasm Fish
While Xu Feng pondered whether he had stumbled across the Abyssal Tide Beacon, the unknown voice resounded once again.
"Sea Traveler, it’s destiny that brought you here."
"Who’s there?" Xu Feng darted his eyes everywhere. Left, right, top, and even beneath him. Yet he still couldn’t locate the source of the voice.
"I’m not near you. I’m located at the shrine where the beacon’s mechanism is placed."
"The shrine?" Speechless, Xu Feng was starting to wonder if those from the Phantasm Sea had special perception tools. There wasn’t anything around him besides the Phantasm Sea.
So where was the shrine?
"No offense, but how did you even locate me when you’re not even present at the scene?" Xu Feng raised his question. He was not just curious, but also eager to learn of their methods and whether they could be learned.
"I didn’t locate you." The voice resounded and corrected, "I’ve sensed the presence of the Phantasm Spirit, so I forcefully turned on the beacon momentarily. Unfortunately, my power is limited, so you should hasten your speed, lest the sea monsters would return once the effect subsided."
"You should have said it sooner then," Xu Feng twitched his mouth in disbelief. He thought the coast was safe, but now he was informed that those pesky sea monsters would return at any moment.
How could he not panic?
This was especially true when he even fired at them to test some theories.
Without hesitation, Xu Feng grabbed the helm and searched for the shrine.
Alas, no matter where he looked, there didn’t seem to be any passage or direction that led to it.
"Um, where can I sail the warship to you?"
After a few moments of silence, the unknown voice inquired, "Does your warship have a barrier that blocks the Phantasm Seawater from entering?"
"Eh... I think so?" Xu Feng wasn’t sure where this was going. But he had a gut feeling that he was about to regret the next scene.
Sure enough, the same voice gave him a very tedious task.
"Good, then turn on the barrier and go underwater with the ship. The Phantasm Spirit may be dormant, but its passive ability would reveal directional arrows that lead you to the shrine. There’s no need to hurry, but do be in haste, lest you might be swarmed by the sea monsters."
Almost immediately afterward, a system prompt appeared in front of him.
System Notification: You have 10 minutes to reach your destination. Upon failure, you will be reverted to the dock and restart traveling. Keep in mind that the beacon’s location will also shift.
’Fuck, it’s really one of these time-locked and scenario-change missions.’ Xu Feng cursed silently. He couldn’t even reject the mission either because it would be considered an automatic failure once the time limit was up.
Knowing that complaining was a pointless waste of energy, he hurriedly tried to search for the function that allowed the warship to be submerged.
Soon, he found the button and quickly pressed it. In the blink of an eye, the gold ranked warship was covered in a transparent dome, followed by the health point of the dome that listed 150,000.
Needless to say, if the dome was damaged beyond 150,000, then the warship could no longer be submerged and possibly be wrecked if it failed to reach the surface on time.
’Even if I’m not the prophesied guy, I’m definitely a Sea Traveler now.’ He flashed a bitter smile and submerged his warship.
As soon as he was submerged, Xu Feng noticed the sea life that had been hiding from the surface. It was very desolate and gloomy, almost as if it was impossible to even sustain a proper sea ecosystem. There was barely any luminous light to brighten up the sea or any other fishes.
Without some food cycle, how were the sea monsters surviving in the Phantasm Sea?
There were so many unanswered questions, but Xu Feng didn’t have any leisure to ponder over them.
After all, the sea monsters which had fled in panic started to appear themselves.
Just like the unknown voice had informed him in advance, these sea monsters were going to return as soon as the beacon ran out of its effect.
"Did it have to run out that fast?" Xu Feng clicked his tongue and hurriedly searched for the directional arrows.
Thankfully, Burpe’s passive ability was effective and the directional arrows were very easy to spot.
Soon, Xu Feng controlled the warship to follow ahead.
Along the journey, he realized they were going deeper in the depth level, and only then did he spot some fish.
These fishes were all hiding in their habitat. When Xu Feng’s warship passed by them, they hurriedly squirmed away and vanished in the blink of an eye.
Time quickly went by, and the directional arrows were no more right after Xu Feng arrived at a large shrine built at a very deep depth level. His eyes widened slightly, clearly unable to believe a building like this existed.
’The shrine resembled those from the Holy Sanctuary.’ After taking a closer look, Xu Feng recognized some of the architecture and symbols were strangely familiar with the Holy Sanctuary’s Colosseum.
"I have arrived here. How do I enter the shrine?" Xu Feng exclaimed loudly.
"Give it a few seconds. The Phantasm Spirit is about to be awakened. I don’t wish to disturb their progress by opening the shrine."
"But what about the sea monsters that are still chasing after us?" He pressed on. Despite their depth level, those sea monsters continued to chase after him.
"That won’t be a problem."
Shortly afterward, the group of Phantasm Fishes rushed out of their hideout and began blowing some bubbles with their mouths. Gradually, the bubbles expanded and their translucent color was mixed in a rainbow color.
Xu Feng remained silent during the process. He watched as the bubbles confronted the ferocious sea monsters and consumed them whole. Everywhere the bubbles phased through, skeletal bones remained.
Even Xu Feng got the creeps upon seeing how effortlessly the bubbles eliminated the high-level sea monsters with ease.
’Good thing I’m not a fan of sashimi.’ Xu Feng patted his chest.
