Chapter 1080: Meeting Elder Yaren Again
Chapter 1080: Meeting Elder Yaren Again
After realizing his alias was being targeted, Xu Feng knew he had to do something about this matter.
It was just a pity that he was still trapped in the prison cell and couldn’t contact anyone. The Paradise Plains guards were also taking their sweet time.
Finally, having waited for an unknown amount of time, some guards entered the prison cell and glanced at Xu Feng.
"Elder Yaren has finished her research and seems to request your presence. You’d best behave yourself; otherwise, imprisonment would be the least of your worries." The guard opened his cell, handcuffed him again, and warned sternly.
Unwilling to escalate the matter further, Xu Feng calmly complied with the situation.
Sometime later, he was escorted like some criminal and had a brown bag covering his face.
In response to such an action, the guards simply said that to avoid any public disturbance and panic, they hoped to conceal his appearance until everything was resolved.
Being treated in such a manner, Xu Feng pursed his lips and mentally noted this shame down.
’Just you guards wait!’ He cursed silently. There was no need to go through any public streets when there were designated tunnels built in Paradise Plains that led to many sectors.
Did these guards seriously take him for a fool?
Or someone who doesn’t know the geography of Paradise Plains?
Sure, the actual map itself in the city wasn’t shown properly in the system, but that didn’t mean there weren’t any hidden easter eggs. It was up to the players themselves to explore and discover new things instead of relying on the system.
The system was only a simple guideline and not your nanny.
Sometime later, they arrived at the city’s hall where the brown bag was finally removed from Xu Feng’s head.
"The city is under strict protocol, so unless necessary, there wouldn’t be many people in the city’s hall." The guard said.
"What about the streets?" Xu Feng inquired.
"It’s quite empty."
"..."
Speechless, Xu Feng didn’t expect the NPC’s behavior to start to change as well. They were actually trolling him, and this meant that the upcoming update wasn’t too far off.
Meanwhile, the guards were a bit disappointed to see Xu Feng remain calm.
They thought he would have lashed out or something.
"Tsk, this is boring." One of them couldn’t restrain themselves and clicked their tongue in frustration.
Realizing it was hopeless to get a proper reaction from Xu Feng, the guards no longer stalled around.
They swiftly brought him to Yaren’s office and dumped him there.
In front of Yaren, there was no need for any guards’ presence.
Once the guards made their exit, Yaren remained seated on her chair, her gaze locked on Xu Feng.
She appeared serious and vigilant, but it only lasted for a few seconds.
"Bwahaaha, I can’t believe you will have such a day." She laughed heartily and clutched her stomach from aching.
Seeing her laughter, Xu Feng could only flash a bittersweet smile. He couldn’t possibly stop her, nor does he have the capability to anyway.
’Ugh, where is Carmen when I need her?’ His thought drifted to her, or more specifically, her protagonist-like luck power. She was probably the type to stumble across some great events without doing anything, whereas he would stumble across many obstacles.
After laughing to her fill, Yaren finally paused and asked, "How did you bypass the barrier and enter here?"
"Well, there were some special circumstances." Xu Feng said in an exhausted tone.
Upon hearing that, Yaren didn’t pursue the matter further.
She was understanding and knew the so-called circumstances must have been quite private. Since the two of them were quite familiar already and she knew about his character, there was no need to pry more.
As for why Yaren didn’t suspect Xu Feng to be a spy, it was mainly because he wasn’t the type to seek wealth or honor.
Back then, Xu Feng could have been the champion of the competition hosted by her. Yet he gave that up in a heartbeat to another person.
If such a person were someone who seeks wealth through unscrupulous means, then they would have never forgo such an opportunity.
"Anyway, you came at a really bad time. Some of our entry gates have been breached by nefarious folks, and spies were able to slip through the cracks." Yaren suddenly turned serious and began to divulge Paradise Plains’ current outlook.
As a city known to have many trained and expert Professions, it was essentially a fat juicy piece of meat to the Colossuses, who required much manpower to expand.
"The Colossuses are indeed a headache for everyone." Xu Feng commented.
"Many cities have been hit, with some falling because of traitors and scums who betrayed their own for money." He continued, clearly having kept up with the news.
When he browsed through the Game Forum, there had been some posts about fallen cities. But because most players didn’t care much about the geography and only about themselves, it didn’t rise in the trending rank.
They would much rather prefer gossip and internal conflict over situations that were out of their reach.
After all, the Colossus event was over, and they were ineligible to participate in it due to their insignificant level.
Monsters in those fallen cities averaged around 60-70s, but the current mainstream players had only barely reached the 50s.
Naturally, one of them was Carmen, who had broken through to the 50s.
Even he was only 2 levels behind in reaching level 50s. And he reckoned that after the relocation process was over, he would soar above the 50s.
"Lin Feng, would you perhaps want to earn some confidential blueprints that could assist your guild?" While Xu Feng was silently pondering over the grim situation, Yaren suddenly raised the question.
"I lack a proper laborer who could accomplish the tasks I wish to assign. Since you have done a great job in the chasm, I thought you might want to continue to impress me again."
