Chapter 1081: Elder Yaren’s Request
Chapter 1081: Elder Yaren’s Request
As soon as Yaren made such a request, Xu Feng was instantly greeted with a new system prompt.
System Notification: Yaren of Paradise Plains has been dealing with multiple issues in the city. She requires the help of a trusted person and sought you to assist. Do you agree? Y/N
’Another mission?’ Xu Feng’s eyes widened slightly. Soon, he had a suspicion that the system must have planned for this from the start when it offered him a choice to come here.
No wonder the Paradise Plains was available.
It appeared that the system must have recognized his achievement as one of the first players to enter the city to grant him a chance to advance further.
"There’s no need to feel pressured about agreeing, Lin Feng. If you refuse, I’ll just have to find someone else." Yaren yawned and emphasized that he should not feel forced.
She only made such a suggestion because Xu Feng appeared all of a sudden. Moreover, she still had a disciple, Crimson Heart. According to information, Crimson Heart had joined the very guild that Xu Feng had created.
Thus, she decided to give him an opportunity, almost like a roundabout way to benefit her disciple indirectly.
Sometime later, Xu Feng clenched his fist and flashed a determined look.
"What do you need me to do?" He asked. It was never harmful to accept more missions, especially when the requester didn’t expect him to achieve a flawless record or completion.
"I want you to uncover the spies who may be leaking information to the Colossuses. I will grant you an identity and status that allows you to bypass the guards." Yaren calmly said.
Her decisiveness in readily giving him such a powerful authority was why she could sit in such a position.
"Any specific targets in mind?" He inquired and raised more questions about the potential spy’s information.
After all, for the spies to cause damage to the city, they needed to hold some government position or at least be in a place where they could receive confidential information.
"Actually, I do have a few." Yaren nodded her head and retrieved a few documents.
"Have you heard of a canary trap?" She then questioned.
"Canary trap?" Xu Feng was a bit taken aback. "Of course, I have heard of it."
The canary trap was an old yet very effective trick to bait out the traitors.
"It’s good that you know about it. Save me the saliva and effort to explain it." Yaren yawned and waved her hand. "All necessary information is in the document. I reckon you are capable enough to handle them, right?"
Nodding, Xu Feng promptly excused himself from the office. Needless to say, he understood that Yaren wished to be alone.
Since that was the case, it was best to leave by himself rather than being told to get out.
Sometime later, Xu Feng went to the room that was assigned to him. Now that he was technically an assistant to Yaren, it was only right for him to have a private room.
"Let’s see which are the suspects," he opened the document and began reading through the files.
He wanted to see if any of them rang a bell for him to identify. Unfortunately, the list was all about NPCs and zero players.
Although he anticipated the culprit to be an NPC, he still hoped that some players were slick enough to infiltrate the city.
’This is going to take a while.’ He knew this wasn’t a matter that could be done in an instant. Otherwise, Yaren wouldn’t have passed off the tedious workload to him instead of completing it herself.
With the canary trap in active, Xu Feng could only bide his time as well and see which information was leaked out.
There wasn’t much he could do, and he was quite mentally fatigued. The event from the Phantasm Sea had expended most of his energy already.
’Let’s just call it off for the day.’ He pinched his brows and opened his system interface to log out.
It was just right that the City Competition was nearing its end. To speed things up, the organizers this time made sure the fighters would continuously fight.
Hence, what should have taken over a month ended up being done in a short week.
As his vision blacked out briefly, the gaming capsule in his room opened up.
Seeing the daylight beaming straight at him, Xu Feng was forced to close his eyes briefly to get used to it.
A few seconds later, he got out of the capsule and checked his phone.
Sure enough, there were many messages that he had missed.
’Hmm, Ning Yi wanted to invite me out?’ Startled, Xu Feng didn’t expect to receive a message from him.
After all, Ning Yi had long forgotten about him and the guild when he finally managed to date Catherine. He was a lost lamb whose eyes and heart were fully attentive to Catherine.
Just when Xu Feng was about to reply to his message, his phone suddenly rang.
Needless to say, Ning Yi must have been camping on his phone and noticed his messages had been read. Hence, he was able to video call almost immediately.
As soon as Xu Feng picked up the call, he was swiftly bombarded by loud speeches.
"Feng Brother, you are finally available. If I still can’t reach you, then I would have swatted your apartment to drag you out." Ning Yi cried aloud.
"What’s the matter?" Keeping a calm composure, Xu Feng didn’t react much and inquired about the situation.
He didn’t think Ning Yi would be bothering him unless it was important.
After all, he would rather go on dates and mess around than annoy him.
And just like Xu Feng had predicted, something serious had happened.
"Feng Brother, I don’t know what’s going on in the Vanguard Guild, but some people are starting to attack our company to force us to throw you under the bus." Ning Yi exclaimed.
"Which alias exactly?" Xu Feng questioned. Ning Yi was one of the few individuals who knew about his multiple aliases, so he needed to make sure which person Ning Yi was mentioning.
"Who else but the Guild Leader!" Ning Yi frowned deeply.
