Chapter 1164: Rising Actresses

Xu Feng planned on utilizing the popularity of short dramas to boost his Vanguard Guild and rope in more people to join the chamber of commerce.

Unfortunately, his intention was misunderstood by Erica, who thought he planned on hiring rising actresses to play in bed.

"You’re disgusting." She clicked her tongue and nearly raised her leg to give him a kick.

"Disgusting?" Startled, Xu Feng raised an eyebrow.

"How is trying to use short drama to promote our Vanguard Guild disgusting?"

"???"

Dumbfounded, Erica appeared to be visually confused.

Upon seeing her confused expression, it was at that moment that Xu Feng came to a realization.

"Seriously, just because I leer a few times at the seductive actress, doesn’t mean I’m so desperate to invest money just to get them. Not only is it insulting to them, but it is also disrespectful of my character." He rolled his eyes.

"My bad," she raised her hands up and admitted her mistake. It was an honest misconception, to be fair.

Sometime later, the two resolved their slight misunderstanding and resumed watching the short drama.

Although there was some occasional dumb logic behind the drama, it was negligible considering how fast it was resolved and moved to another point.

The short drama they were watching was about a fictional dynasty with a female emperor reigning over it. The main character was a transmigrator who became an official in court to assist the female emperor.

As for the antagonist, it was the prime minister who had long harbored a desire for the throne.

And right now in the scene, it was a court debate where the prime minister was once again forcing the female emperor to comply with a ridiculous decree.

"Aish, I seriously can’t understand why the female emperor still allows that corrupted prime minister to continue yapping in the court." Erica clicked her tongue and said in frustration.

"If I’m the female emperor, then I would have ordered the execution of the prime minister already!" She declared.

"Did you think the female emperor didn’t want to do the same? The female emperor knows he’s corrupted, but cannot touch him because of the repercussions." Xu Feng calmly explained.

"What repercussions? A mere prime minister dared to dictate to the dynasty alone? Such people would have long been fired if it were in my company!"

"Then will you still fire them if it means the collapse of your company?"

"Why would the company collapse if I fired one person?"

"That’s dependent on the person’s value themselves. Let’s say the coder in your company is the only one who understands the coding scripts that operate the company. If such a person were to be fired, who could take over the scripts?"

"I’ll just hire another person to take over the scripts who could write better code." Erica snorted.

"Sure, that could work, but how long do you think it’ll take them to rewrite everything from scratch?" Xu Feng questioned. "Let me be generous. They require a month to complete the revision, but by then, your company would be bombarded by competitors and consumers."

Baffled, Erica was rendered speechless.

Even if she could fend off the competitors, the consumers were an entirely different story.

Seeing her complicated look, Xu Feng pointed at the screen.

"The prime minister could obviously be killed with a simple decree. But then the female emperor would lose the dynasty that her ancestors fought hard and long for. After all, the prime minister’s connection and allies were far too much for the female emperor to eradicate instantaneously while ensuring the opposing enemies can’t take advantage of their plight."

"Damn it! Why hadn’t the main character started to do something then?" Erica placed her chin on her face, clearly frustrated by the scene.

"Why must you expect the main character to save the day?" Xu Feng inquired. "If the main character weren’t a transmigrator and had modern knowledge, the female emperor would have to fend for herself alone. Rather than expecting help from outsiders, it was better to rely on oneself."

’Rely on oneself rather than expecting help from outsiders?’ Erica repeated the statement silently. At first glance, it seemed to be a discussion about the short drama, but upon thinking deeper, she realized he was advising her.

Because her recent crisis was essentially salvaged by the action of the Vanguard Guild, she started to hold some reliance on them.

However, she wouldn’t be lucky the next time.

She came to an understanding that if the Vanguard Guild’s interests hadn’t been crossed by the Miracle Pavilion, then her company might have gone under.

"I can’t believe you’re giving me a lecture." Erica smiled bitterly. She thought they were enjoying a short drama, but Xu Feng somehow managed to use the opportunity to jolt her awake from an unrealistic fantasy.

"I want you to use your connection and help me get in touch with those rising actresses." He continued, his desire burning to rope them in before others snatch the opportunity.

A surefire way to ensure his guild could become mainstream in the real world was happening. He couldn’t allow the golden opportunity to be snatched away by others.

"Hah... I just knew you wouldn’t be so generous all of a sudden." Erica rolled her eyes.

"I don’t know if they’ll agree, but I’m certain they would at least take an interest in meeting. Don’t say I didn’t warn you, but be careful of your physical body from overexertion." She gently advised, reminding him of his fatigued state from earlier, and to not do too much exercise.

As for what exercise she meant, it was clearly about the bedroom activity kind with another person.

"Even if I jump into the yellow river, I doubt I can wash off the accusation." Xu Feng twitched his brows. He wanted to meet with the future rising actresses of short dramas for strictly business, and nothing else.

Alas, nobody would believe him!
