Chapter 1465: The Retaliation Part 16
Since Xu Feng was still in a disguise to avoid any mishaps, the Vanguard Guild members failed to recognize him when he tried to enter the town.
"Halt, please stand at the back of the line and wait for your turn." A regular member raised their hand and halted him.
"Failure to comply with the rules and regulations would have you blacklisted from Haven Wind Town. If severe enough, you will also be barred from accessing any of Vanguard Guild’s businesses." They continued with the warning.
"What if I pay extra?" Xu Feng decided to play along and inquired whether he could pay extra to skip the line. He was also rather curious about his members’ integrity.
Thankfully, he wasn’t disappointed by the result.
The members shook their heads and apologized. "Sorry, but only affiliated people with our Vanguard Guild could potentially skip the lines. The same goes for those who are members of our Vanguard Chamber of Commerce."
"Oh, so those affiliated or members can pay extra to skip the line?"
"Not quite accurate."
Xu Feng raised an eyebrow.
"The lines over there are reserved for those affiliated, but there’s still a large queue. The only difference is that the fee is discounted to 8 silver coins and a slightly better wait time." The member saw his confusion and explained.
"I can pay 1 gold coin." Xu Feng persisted, trying his best to skip the line to enter.
"Sir, with all due respect, we do not take any bribes or more money to let anyone skip the queue. If you really want to skip the queue, then please become a Vanguard Guild member. They’re the only ones with reserved slots." The member said with a somewhat cool tone.
He was not only telling them that their integrity could not be compromised, but also promoting the Vanguard Guild as a desirable guild to join.
"Ah, become a Vanguard Guild member. Why didn’t you just say so?" Xu Feng mused and revealed his Guild Leader’s emblem, visible only to regular members.
Sure enough, the regular member nearly choked on his saliva.
He squinted his eyes to inspect the emblem carefully. When it resonated with his guild’s token, the regular member finally realized he had been chatting with the Guild Leader.
"Haha, I didn’t know you were one." Despite the astonishment, the regular member hurriedly cleared his throat and tried his best to act natural.
Upon noticing that they managed to keep their composure and not expose his identity in a loud manner, Xu Feng was rather pleased.
"Haha, you must be new here. What is your name?" He asked cheekily.
"My name is Black Knife, Sir." The regular member introduced himself by his in-game name.
"Well done."
Xu Feng patted their shoulder and made sure to keep note of this name.
Of course, he was probably going to forget it soon after, unless Black Knife managed to climb the ranking.
After all, his memory capacity could only store so much before it started to leak out some of the less valuable information.
Sometime later, he entered the town and was stunned to see how overcrowded it was.
"Don’t block the walkway. I need to get my gears repaired quickly and hunt more monsters."
"I’ve been here for 15 minutes. Stand at the back and stop trying to cut the lines."
"Who’s cutting whose line? I’m headed to the Training Hall to test out my new strategy!"
Many players were arguing and were close to confronting each other on the spot.
However, not one of them actually made any moves besides verbal fighting.
They had all seen and witnessed the consequences of starting a fight.
There were a few buffoons who didn’t believe the Vanguard Guild would dare to kick them out for their affiliation with Super Guilds, only to be proven wrong.
Regardless of anyone’s identity, everyone was equal within the town. This included the Vanguard Guild members who were heavily obligated by the town’s rules.
After all, they wouldn’t get kicked out, but they sure as heck would lose much more valuable things.
’No wonder even NPCs are jealous of me.’ Xu Feng smiled bitterly. Granted that his town was the only one that managed to ward off the monsters commanded by the Colossuses, it was obvious why many coveted his territory.
But how could he possibly give it up?
The reason why his town could ward them off was that he injected the defensive buildings with Origin Power. The amount was no joke either and nearly drained him to death.
He glanced at the crowd for another few seconds before taking a special route that led to the Vanguard Guild.
This special route was the only area that wasn’t crowded and quite unguarded.
Despite this, not a single outsider had attempted to take the route.
Even a fool could discern that this route was designed specifically for the Vanguard Guild’s usage and not public use.
As he walked through the route, he noticed there were more Vanguard Guild members running back and forth.
’What are they in a rush for?’ He was confused by their movement.
That was until he overheard some of them discussing the cities suddenly being targeted and that they must raise security within Haven Wind Town.
"Quickly gather the defense to the 3rd defense line! We’re not going to let the Colossuses siege our town!"
"I can’t believe that the Colossuses are still receiving buffs. This is getting outrageous!"
"Is the Divine World trying to tell us to get out of here?"
Xu Feng was rendered speechless when their movements and somewhat panicking actions were related to his hit list.
Alas, there was nothing he could do about it. The hit list was confidential among them, so they couldn’t possibly tell them to act like it didn’t exist. The spies scattered around their town would instantly have suspicions.
After all, Xu Feng refused to believe that everyone here didn’t come here without any malicious or spying intentions.
A few minutes later, he arrived at the Guild’s Hall and sensed the atmosphere was quite eerie.
