Xu Feng wasn’t oblivious to the guild members’ state of mind.

He had always browsed through the guild chat and understood their concerns.

It was just that he couldn’t really use Zhao Kai much in the previous updates.

There were too many things that Zhao Kai needed to worry about in the real world. He had no wish to repeat the past timeline history in which Zhao Kai mysteriously disappeared.

Therefore, the more fame Zhao Kai earned in the real world, the harder it was for those in the shadows to harm him. This was his method and form of protection, by which Zhao Kai would earn for himself.

As his best friend, Xu Feng knew very well that he was the same as him.

He didn’t like receiving help, and when he did, it must be the bare minimum.

That was why they were able to vibe so well.

Of course, this was only suited for a bestie. For couples, the more similar they were, the more they would tend to argue.

"You only plan on sending Kai to participate in the upcoming esports tournament?" Carmen raised an eyebrow in shock. She had also planned on participating for fun.

Even Veronica appeared visibly shaken because that was such a risky and dangerous move.

God forbid if Zhao Kai failed, then wouldn’t the prestige and honor that their Vanguard Guild had established all be in ruin?

"You are all misunderstanding something." Xu Feng smiled bitterly. "What I meant is that I will list Zhao Kai as the team leader for the esports. He would be the one leading you all."

Instantly, the two sigh in relief when they hear the clarification. It wasn’t that they didn’t trust Zhao Kai, but it was really too risky to send only one candidate out, especially when there was no participation limit.

They would have been stunned, too, if Xu Feng were the one insisting on being the solo representative. They would have definitely advised him otherwise if that was to be the case.

Sometime later, they returned to the screen of the battle.

"They seemed to be reaching their limits, Feng." Veronica narrowed her eyes and noticed Lightning Blade’s speed had slowed down.

The same goes for Dark Night’s kills, which were gradually getting harder to find an opportunity to sneak in.

As for Blue Star, she was repeatedly pestered by the opponents’ Specialist and was prevented from unleashing her large AoE skills.

Carmen didn’t say a word and opened up a Void Portal.

"Where are you going?" Xu Feng suddenly asked.

"To help them." She replied.

"Stay." He calmly said. "Remember that this is a test. If they fail, then so be it."

So far, the Vanguard had been quite spoiled with their repeated victory.

Even when they were facing a crisis, they never truly had to worry much beyond their weak mentality or disloyalty.

After all, he was always there to shield them from the actual danger.

But that was only because the previous updates weren’t really for the players.

Now that they had entered the Legacy Era, Xu Feng no longer planned to be their guardian anymore.

Just like how a mommy pigeon would have their kids learn to fly themselves, it was time for the Vanguard Guild members to face the obstacles without his presence.

"You’ve told me to not overwork much, so if you help them now. Are you going to take over my role and always carry their back?" He glanced at Carmen and asked softly.

She paused for a moment.

In the end, she sighed and closed the portal. "You’re right, I’m not their babysitter. If they fail, then so be it."

This was one of those times where their failure wouldn’t affect them.

Instead, it was actually more beneficial for them to understand that there was always someone better than them.

The two of them probably understood this concept when Xu Feng requested that Serene Paragon spar with Lightning Blade.

Even though Lightning Blade had the Training Hall as a major improvement in his combat skills, his actual swordplay was equivalent to Serene Paragon.

Actually, no, he was a little bit inferior when it comes to swordsmanship.

Lightning Blade failed to find an opening on Serene Paragon, whereas the latter was able to, while parrying his attacks with relative ease.

"We really need to start paying attention to other players now." Veronica realized the Legacy Era was both an opportunity and a crisis for them.

Their Vanguard Guild managed to obtain a large amount of Legacies prior to the update. But once the rest also got their own, it was hard to tell if they could remain headstrong.

"Already 3 steps ahead of you." Xu Feng mused and sent her a large file.

"What’s this?"

"List of all competent players within their respective guilds to take note of and the high rankers’ data for the upcoming esports tournament."

"W-When did you do all of this?" Veronica was astonished by the extensive list. This was not something you could do on the spot. It was an accumulative and long investigation to confirm the data.

"Yi doesn’t just sit around the office in the real world." He chuckled softly.

"Yi? You mean Ning Yi did this?" She was startled. She thought that the fatty—well, no longer a fatty, was capable of such work.

All she thought about him was that he always tried to pursue Catherine. And when he succeeded, he was like a simp all over her.

It was only recently that he took over the real-world office and did great business to sustain it financially.

Such a task should have taken the majority of his time, so where did he find the spare time to investigate?

"That’s the thing about Yi. Never try to underestimate him because he could even investigate the color of your underwear if he were serious." He said in a half-joking and half-serious manner.

"Hah, if he really does happen to know the color, I’ll gladly snap his neck." Veronica smiled blissfully.
