Chapter 1596: Esports Tournament Part 23
Maxwell was fuming when things had to happen while he was in charge.
’What happened to my slacking days?’ The shift was mainly to oversee a restricted area that their Ethereal had locked down.
It should have been the easiest time because no foolish players would attempt to trespass on their training ground.
As for the monster that spawned occasionally, there was a team on standby whenever the cooldown was nearing.
There was literally nothing that he needed to do except tell them to behave if someone got too emotional.
"Just who is it?" Maxwell roared. "Who dares disturb my slacking days?"
"Reporting... it seems to be the Vanguard Guild." One of the subordinates who finally got news of the situation reported.
Their faces were filled with dread and confusion.
Who doesn’t know the Vanguard Guild was like an uncontrollable brute?
Whoever they targeted, they gave zero concern about who they were.
Sure enough, Maxwell nearly fell to the ground from shock alone.
"Vanguard Guild?" He raised an eyebrow and approached the subordinate.
He clutched their clothes and lifted them up. "Say it again? Who is it that disturbs my slacking?"
"T-The Vanguard Guild."
"Fuck, did any of you fuckers provoke them for no reason? Why would they come at us again?"
Maxwell had already warned his subordinates to avoid Vanguard Guild members like the plague. Ever since their alliance collapsed and became a source of ridicule, they avoided any direct or indirect confrontation with them.
After all, nothing was more important than the upcoming esports tournament sponsored by the world government.
Only a dumb clown would continue to pick a fight when there was a bigger event in their face.
"Ehm, not to my recollection." The subordinate answered without much thought. Everyone in the field was focused on improving, so where would they have the time to offend them?
"Do I look like an idiot to you?" Maxwell dropped him down and asked coldly.
"No, Captain."
"Since I’m not an idiot, you think I’d believe none of you fuckers offended the Vanguard Guild? Who doesn’t know they only go after those who messed with them first?"
As someone who enjoyed slacking and letting the days go by peacefully, Maxwell made sure to always avoid big conflict.
He had even studied the Vanguard Guild and realized they were a tough nut to crack.
He wasn’t scared of them because he didn’t own the Ethereal Guild.
Loyalty?
Sorry, he was loyal to slacking and money only!
But now the Vanguard Guild came knocking on his doorstep.
There could only be one truth!
Some fuckers in Etheral provoked or messed with them; otherwise, they wouldn’t have come disrupting their training ground.
’Damn it, which goddamn bastard is harming me!’ Maxwell cursed silently. He knew Vanguard never actively targeted others without a reasonable cause.
The evidence was hard facts. Almost all major incidents involving the Vanguard Guild were provoked by others first.
DING!
Suddenly, Maxwell’s notification rang a bell. He got an ominous feeling as he slowly opened the notification, which showed OneManMedia opening a stream.
The title was highlighted brightly: Vanguard’s Revenge Against Defamators and Evildoers!
’Defamators and evildoers??!’ Maxwell nearly fainted on the spot. He was a slacker, not a defamator, much less an evildoer.
Does slacking mean you’re evil?
Absolutely not!
"Have every member retreat to the city!" Maxwell commanded and began to send an urgent message to the higher-ups. Now was not the time to clash with the Vanguard Guild. They needed to investigate the issues now and get to the bottom of it.
Why did the Vanguard Guild specifically target them, and what was the meaning behind their streaming title?
These two big questions needed to be resolved as soon as possible.
"Not good, Captain!" While Maxwell was busy relaying the event to his higher-ups, another subordinate arrived and cried aloud.
"What is it now?" Maxwell twitched his brows.
"The Vanguard Guild retreated when our reinforcements arrived, but the monster in the area seemed to have gone berserk. We can barely sustain them before the Vanguard Guild returns to disrupt us again."
"..."
Retreat when their people arrived, but return when their people were trying to kill the monster?
Just what in the world did his bum guildies do to them?
As Maxwell continued to get a massive migraine, elsewhere, Xu Feng was leading the team to retreat once again.
"Make sure to scatter the seeds across the field!" He ordered loudly.
Those seeds were precious items that increased the frequency with which monsters would spawn. But most importantly, the spawned monsters would be at least 20-30% stronger.
Why would such an item exist?
Such items exist because utilizing the seed could produce more valuable drop loot.
It was an item produced in the Alchemy Profession, and Xu Feng happened to know how to craft them.
After all, there was no fixed recipe for the seed, but something a player had to invent themselves.
"Hehe, the Ethereal members must be pissed." Ardent Lance laughed sinisterly.
"Not just pissed, but even their faces turned purple when we kill secure the last hit." Lightning Blade smirked. He enjoyed the feeling of bullying those who deserved it.
"Are we going to continue to stay here?" Herald Fist scattered a few more seeds and asked Xu Feng.
"Nope, the drop loot would no longer be effective." Xu Feng chuckled in amusement.
Although the seeds indeed provided more drop loot, that was only for purified seeds, and not imperfect ones.
The seeds he had thrown were considered flawed seeds.
They would be effective for a few rounds only before they turned the entire field into a monster den filled with nothing but a troublesome mess.
To summarize, the monsters that spawned from now until the duration expired would grant zero experience points and zero drop loot.
Even if the Ethereal figured this point out, they still had no choice but to clear the monster out if they wanted to continue to train in the area.
’Hmph, let’s see if you dare to slander a woman’s reputation like this again.’ Xu Feng sneered inwardly. He knew these people were innocent in the matter, but the fact that they were associated with the culprit made them guilty anyway.
In the old dynasty, there was the punishment of punishing all nine generations.
He was already being lenient for only disrupting their training ground and not their other businesses.
