Chapter 405: Background Characters

With Yaren giving an ultimatum, Xu Feng could only purse his lips softly and drop his plan of dragging Crimson Heart to the upcoming raid.

This was a chance that once missed, would forever be lost!

Though his thoughts remained unknown to Crimson Heart as she glanced at him, seemingly wondering about his decision.

Ever since joining the guild, she would naturally start researching what the Vanguard guild was about, especially news regarding it. That was the basis of an Assassin, and as such, she had naturally known about the guild's intention in doing a large-scale raid.

The external auction website had literally broken records with how intense and fierce the bidding could turn into for a virtual reality game— something unheard of from all the previous games.

Feeling her intense gaze, Xu Feng twitched his mouth.

Was he really that unreliable and would choose to neglect her future?

"You can stop gazing at me." Xu Feng cleared his throat and said, "You can stay here and be mentored by Elder Yaren. As for your expenses, it shall be covered by the guild, but don't spend too much."

"What about buying some beef skewers or more delicious food occasionally?" Crimson Heart asked.

"You can, as long as it helps alleviate your mood and emotions. However, I expect to see your blacksmith proficiency increase." As soon as Xu Feng finished his warning, he felt intense pressure coming from Yaren.

Speechless, he swiftly turned to her and exclaimed, "I didn't doubt your mentorship, Elder Yaren, but even someone as capable as you could not help an idiot."

"The heck?" Startled, Crimson Heart couldn't believe he would take a jab at her.

Unfortunately for her, it appeared that Yaren was rather pleased with the statement, so she didn't help Crimson Heart out in this matter.

After all, she was the best mentor, but even the best could not help idiots improve no matter what.

With a proud expression hanging on her face, she slowly waved her hands and seemingly indicated that Xu Feng should leave them alone.

She was about to begin imparting some of her knowledge and this kind of knowledge was a secret. She would even make sure Crimson Heart would sign a confidentiality contract first before officially teaching her.

Knowing that he was unwelcomed, Xu Feng wasn't shameless enough to stay.

As he made his exit, he started to head toward the teleport platform. It was about time to return to Star Falls City.

'With how fast information travels, I supposed the Adventure Association already learned about my placement.' Xu Feng thought to himself. Just by getting second place, the honor and fame were already earned, with Star Falls City finally getting some recognition after such a long time.

Therefore, he couldn't help but anticipate what kind of rewards he could get from them.

"I swear if their rewards are inferior to Elder Yaren, then I'm going to—"

Amidst his mumbling, Xu Feng suddenly sensed danger. Without hesitation, he quickly activated Phantom Steps on instinct and escaped from his initial position.

Shortly after his evasion, the position he was initially in was blasted by a powerful spell.

"An ambush within the city?" Xu Feng's expression turned cold as he sneered, "You people sure have guts."

He lifted his chin and gazed at the attackers. Without much surprise, he recognized two of them: Chris and Kiara. They were the people who had tried to cause trouble to him back at the Pet Association, only to end up getting kicked out by Lara's Uncle, Theodore.

There were also two other people standing behind them, one man and one woman.

However, Xu Feng didn't know their names, given that they were just mere background characters whose names weren't even mentioned once before getting kicked out for being associated with Kiara and Chris.

"Hmph, weren't you quite the talkative person previously?" Chris laughed coldly. "I dare you to open your mouth again and see what will happen next."

The moment he finished that, he started casting another powerful spell.

During the casting, Chris also snickered, "If you're expecting help to come, then sorry to say, but there will be none. We have already cast an isolated formation, and with the city still recovering from the Kobolds invasion, I doubt they would have the time to worry about this small incident."

"Is that so?" Contrary to Chris' expectation of him being scared, Xu Feng suddenly grinned and adjusted his glasses.

"Hmm, he doesn't seem afraid." Kiara knitted her brows and suddenly muttered, finding it suspicious.

"Lara did warn us to not mess with him, so let's just go. You've already given him quite a fright already." She suggested, having sensed something was wrong.

Meanwhile, Chris snorted and glared at her. "Who was the one that was still pouting about getting barred from the Pet Association and unable to get a pet anymore?"

"Yeah, I'm salty about it, but I doubt he's someone easy to kill."

"I've already studied him and he's nothing but a Cleric. What can a mere healer do that could resist my spells?"

While they were busy conversing, Xu Feng slowly turned his attention to the two background characters.

"Are the two of you going to involve yourself with this dumb clown or will you leave?" He gently asked. "If you leave now, then I'll pretend the two of you are here."

"Don't listen to his nonsense, Kyle and Gillian!" Chris shouted loudly and proceeded to fire the spell he conjured toward Xu Feng.

As if expecting the spell trajectory, Xu Feng easily dodged the spell narrowly, his gaze remaining locked on the two background characters who now happened to have a name.

"So it's Kyle and Gillian. I shall repeat myself again. If you leave within 10 seconds, then I will forget about your parts in this ambush." Xu Feng said again, albeit in a colder tone.

Both Kyle and Gillian began to hesitate, not out of fear of the repeated warning, but rather because of how effortlessly Xu Feng evaded Chris's attack.
