Chapter 799: The Day Of The Duel
Chapter 799: The Day Of The Duel
It was quite a bustling day in Ghoul City, especially near the Bloodbath Arena, where human slaves fought to the death.
This arena was always bustling with people since ghouls considered it one of their best sources of entertainment to see humans fighting each other to their deaths to survive. There was no surrender or mercy, and the only way to win and survive was to kill the other.
However, today this arena was packed with even more people, and tickets were all sold out to the point they had to set up seats outside so that those who couldn't sit inside could watch from outside with some difficulty.
The main reason ghouls were hyped for the first match was because it involved slaves from the two ancient clans. Of course, ancient clans always sent their slaves to fight, but people knew this fight came to be because of the 'slight' altercation between Mira, known as the Ash Child from the Godwin Clan, and Lehron, the youngest son of Mehron, the patriarch of the Nightshade Clan.
They knew this duel was agreed upon by both clans to settle things without causing much damage to both clans. However, the slave that wins would cause the other clan to lose some face which wouldn't be something both the clans would want.
But the people had no idea that internally there were more things at stake, especially for the Godwin Clan.
"You really sure you want to fight? You can still back out and I will deal with this annoying issue myself," Mira said with pursed lips as she saw Damien getting ready for the duel.
She didn't know why but she was feeling uneasy seeing him preparing to fight someone who was in the next higher realm.
The only thing making her feel confident in him was the fact that he actually was able to completely keep up with her when she sparred with him by using the speed of a human at the first level of the Profound Ethereal Realm.
She didn't like to admit it, but she was marveled by his power and also his powerful lightning ethereal arts. Other than her Master, she had yet to see someone who could move fast enough to even keep up against those five levels stronger than him.
She had no doubt that he could keep up with the Flayer's movements, but his attacks and sinister schemes in the middle of the battle were another thing.
"Stop worrying, silly girl. I have dealt with a sadistic piece of shit like the Flayer my entire life," Damien said with a chuckle.
"I am not worried about you! I am just asking for the sake of my Master," Mira harrumphed with pursed lips.
"No pills or stuff aren't allowed?" Damien asked just to make sure he could recover in the midst of the duel.
"Nothing is allowed other than your weapon," Mira stressed.
"Okay, and who really stands as the judge?"
"Usually, the Arena Master overlooks the duels. But for your duel, the clan leaders of all four ancient clans would be the judges, including our matriarch," Mira explained.
Damien furrowed his brows and asked, "Would that be fine? I don't trust the other clans. So what if those three say I cheated or something?" Damien knew how corrupt those in power were, and he was worried if the majority said something against him, then the others would simply believe it.
"You don't have to worry about that. You have no idea how powerful my Master is. Nobody would dare to try any tricks before her. If they claim something, they better have solid proof to not waste her time," Mira said with a scoff.
Damien nodded as he knew he could depend on his aunt in case somebody tried to play foul.
However, despite putting up a confident exterior, he truly wasn't really sure if he would win today's duel, especially since he can't use his Anti-God Arts nor can he even use his Crimson Death sword.
He can't risk letting others know he possesses such a special and powerful sword despite being a slave.
"Let's go. I am all ready," Damien said with a faint smile.

The Bloodbath Arena was oval in shape when seen from the top, with an open setting where people took seats surrounding the arena.
When Damien saw it, he felt like this was an exaggerated version of the sports stadiums he saw in his previous life, except everything looked dusty, archaic, and intimidating, and the stench of blood was wafting through his nostrils before he even entered it.
He had the slave collar still around his neck as he was led by Mira and some guards from his clan.
Apparently, Akira can't be seen personally escorting a slave to the arena, and he learned that she had already left for the arena before he even left. He guessed it must be because she wanted to keep an eye on things and make sure things proceeded smoothly.
However, seeing these tens of thousands of ghouls howling and shouting in excitement to see him fighting for his life made him shake his head inwardly. He couldn't help but think how barbaric and crude they were compared to someone as elegant and noble as his aunt.
But he knew one of the main reasons for this was their hatred for humans. He felt complicated thinking about how he was half-ghoul and how his future was going to be. Would he be able to fit in any one of the races or become an outcast?
The moment he entered the inner gate and waited behind the outer gate to the arena, he was welcomed by the sight of a frenzied crowd sitting around the arena, and on top, there were four where he could see the leaders of the four ancient clans sitting on their chairs.
Akira was sitting on the highest platform, and when he looked at his aunt, she smiled with her eyes, though one could see the hidden anxiety beneath her eyes.
