Chapter 15
Chapter 15
Grandma He has always been decisive and efficient. Early the next morning, He Qingqi was in the rehearsal room learning to dance when Zhang Yufan mysteriously called her out.
She shook her wrist and realized it might be due to yesterday’s phone call. Panting, she said, “Zhiwei, I’ll go out and take a look. You guys keep practicing.”
“Mm,” Zhuo Zhiwei responded.
As soon as she stepped out, she saw Director Tong.
“What’s the matter, Director?”
Director Tong smiled kindly at He Qingqi: “Let’s talk as we walk.”
“Huh?” After being stunned for a moment, He Qingqi responded with a smile, “Okay.”
“Xiao He, if you have any requests in the future, just tell us directly. There’s no need to be so polite.”
Director Tong was puzzled when he received a call yesterday. He Qingqi had always been straightforward, hitting the tutor and grabbing the phone without hesitation. Why are you suddenly so shy?
Last time, she switched tutors without hesitation. Arranging meals is a small matter and can be sorted out immediately.
“The cafeteria will be open in the evenings from now on. Is that okay?”
He Qingqi didn’t hold back: “No need; I prefer to eat in my dormitory. The kitchen in our dorm is fully equipped. It would be a waste not to use it.”
“Sure!” Director Tong agreed readily. “I’ll arrange for a large refrigerator for your dorm and stock it weekly.”
“Thank you, Director.” He Qingqi thanked him, a hint of joy in her eyes. Finally, she wouldn’t have to rely on Zhang Xiaoyu’s instant noodles anymore!
She hesitated for a moment: “Is there anything else, Director? If not, I’ll head back to training.”
“Of course, there’s more! And it’s good news. Training can wait. Come with me, and you’ll find out.”
He Qingqi: “???”
Could it be that He Dongche is coming to see her again? Or is it He Qingzhou? Grandpa? Grandma?
She had just disrupted the program’s plans yesterday. What good news could there be so soon?
Half-doubting, He Qingqi followed the director into a conference room, where a few other people were present. A stack of papers was in the middle of the table.
A man standing by the window had his back to He Qingqi, hands half in his pockets, wearing a gray suit. He stood tall and had an extraordinary presence.
He Qingqi raised an eyebrow: “And you are?”
Upon hearing her, the man slowly turned around, a smile playing on his lips. “Miss He, it’s easy to forget important people.”
“Assistant Han?” He Qingqi exclaimed in surprise. Assistant Han was He Dongche’s special assistant, very capable and of good character. He later thrived in the He Group. They had known each other for over a decade.
“My dad needs me for something.”
Assistant Han walked to the table and pushed the stack of papers toward He Qingqi. “Miss He, please take a look.”
Suspicious, He Qingqi glanced at Assistant Han, then skimmed through the papers, her eyes widening in shock.
“Wow.” She couldn’t help but exclaim, “My dad must be crazy.”
She put down the papers, which turned out to be property transfer documents.
“This is way too thorough,” He Qingqi murmured.
By noon, He Qingqi was still in a daze, as if in a dream.
If she remembered correctly, she had jokingly mentioned “inheriting this building” yesterday. And today, it was hers?
They also promptly arranged the refrigerator and food supplies.
In the evening, Tao Jinghan entered the dorm and saw a large refrigerator filled with vegetables and meat. She was astonished.
“Qingqi, this efficiency is too high. You should get a raise,” Tao Jinghan teased, patting He Qingqi on the shoulder. “Being a rich player is great.”
He Qingqi gave her a slightly threatening look.
Tao Jinghan quickly changed her tone: “It’s even better to be on a show with a rich player.”
Tao Jinghan asked eagerly, “So, Qingqi, what would you like to eat? I’ll cook for you.”
He Qingqi nodded satisfactorily and quickly glanced at the refrigerator. “Something simple. How about tomato-egg soup?”
“Got it!”
“Also, add more starch. I like it thicker,” He Qingqi added.
“Understood!”
After a while, Tao Jinghan paused and shouted, “He Qingqi! Would you even get to eat without me?”
Seeing this, He Qingqi quickly sneaked out of the kitchen, exchanged glances with Zhuo Zhiwei, and playfully stuck out her tongue, mouthing, “This silly servant.”
Zhuo Zhiwei’s lips twitched into a slight smile.
Soon, the kitchen was filled with a fragrant aroma, and He Qingqi’s empty stomach growled.
Tao Jinghan quickly brought out a bowl of soup, touched her earlobe, and, after seeing He Qingqi roll her eyes, went back to the kitchen to get two small bowls.
He Qingqi grinned as she reached out to take the bowl, but Tao Jinghan pulled back a bit and raised an eyebrow. “Who’s the servant?”
“Me, me,” He Qingqi said. “Is that okay?”
Tao Jinghan snorted and handed her the bowl. “Here’s your thick soup.”
He Qingqi immediately started drinking without hesitation.
After eating, He Qingqi wiped her mouth and remembered the task at hand. She dragged Zhuo Zhiwei to an open spot in the living room and set up the recorder.
“Jinghan, help us out. We can’t get this dance right.”
“Sure, go ahead.” Tao Jinghan lounged and ate watermelon, looking like a pampered aristocrat from ancient times.
But since they needed her help, they had to endure it. As the music played, He Qingqi’s hand brushed Zhuo Zhiwei’s waist, lingered on her abdomen, then slid to her other side. Zhuo Zhiwei turned and moved smoothly.
It was a duet, the highlight of the song. One glance and Tao Jinghan understood the problem.
She had encountered the same problem previously. The moves were too polite, and the gazes were not intense enough. This was what Bian Sui Tong had told her.
She was the most dedicated captain, the perfect idol, yet the coldest girl. She is sensitive to the emotions in dance but blind to her feelings.
Her coldness was different from Zhuo Zhiwei’s. Zhuo Zhiwei simply didn’t want to smile, but Bian Sui Tong never cared about anyone, as if she had no emotions.
As a professional idol, she would play along with CP (couple) business but never take it seriously, dismissing same-sex feelings as “teenage crushes” or “illusions of living alone abroad.”
Tao Jinghan, in a flat tone, repeated the girl’s words:
“Qingqi, your movements need to be more forceful; your fingers need to sink into the flesh to give that heart-racing feeling.”
“Zhiwei, your gaze should be more alluring, with a hint of a smile. Don’t avoid Qingqi’s eyes; keep your gazes locked. Don’t blush; the shyness of a first crush isn’t what this song needs.”
“CP business was taught by the company, right? Do it like they taught, making the audience believe it’s real and meets the song’s requirements.”
“A great dance should be like a play, telling a story through looks, emotions, and smooth movements. Right now, it just looks like a dance routine.”
He Qingqi and Zhuo Zhiwei were stunned, watching Tao Jinghan speak like an emotionless instructor, sensing something was off with her.
“Jing… Jinghan, are you okay?”
Tao Jinghan’s eyes were unfocused. She then frowned slightly and said in a dull voice, “I’m fine, just some unpleasant memories.”
“If you need our help with anything, just say it,” Zhuo Zhiwei said seriously.
“Mm, I will.”
He Qingqi and Zhuo Zhiwei stepped aside, discussing the issues Tao Jinghan pointed out. They intuitively felt that Tao Jinghan’s mood had something to do with the song, so they kept their voices low.
After a night of discussion, they pinpointed the problems.
But they were still shy about the intimate moves, sometimes too nervous to look into each other’s eyes.
Especially He Qingqi, who had a guilty conscience. Those poses were too ambiguous, and Zhuo Zhiwei didn’t know, but she did—she liked girls, so she was even more hesitant, fearing people would say she was taking advantage of Zhuo Zhiwei. Despite numerous practice sessions, they were unable to meet their expectations.
“Again, again! None of us got the moves right!” It was already noon, and He Qingqi was drenched in sweat, irritable because of the duet, doubting herself, wanting to keep practicing, and forgetting about lunch.
With less than a week left, He Qingqi and Zhuo Zhiwei still couldn’t get it right, so they didn’t go back to the dormitory or have a good sleep for days.
“I refuse to believe it. If Jinghan and her teammates could do it, why can’t we?”
Zhuo Zhiwei glanced at her, didn’t say anything, stretched her sore foot, and nodded firmly. She was also determined.
They had to start over multiple times due to slow progress. Zhuo Zhiwei’s right foot developed blisters from ill-fitting shoes, and some had already burst, causing sharp pain.
But she kept going, and He Qingqi didn’t notice until she stumbled during practice.
He Qingqi quickly supported her, noticing her foot’s condition, and regretted it: “Alright, take a break. Everyone else, go eat.”
“Okay, Captain, we’ll bring food back for you.”
He Qingqi nodded, helped Zhuo Zhiwei to a chair, fetched the first aid kit, and frowned. “Why didn’t you say you were hurt?”
