Running Over The Head Of My Ex [Rebirth]

Chapter 36

Chapter 36

The security at Yu Ding Villa was actually quite good, so there was no need for a disguise.

However, as a precautionary measure, He Qingqi still harbored some paranoia following the events of a year ago. She was constantly concerned that Fang Xuanyao might bribe someone in the community to take photos of her and Zhuo Zhiwei together.

As for why she was afraid, He Qingqi hadn’t thought it through.

Zhuo Zhiwei wasn’t much of a talker. When they were together, He Qingqi usually took the lead. But this time, seeing Fang Xuanyao had put her in a bad mood.

The journey was silent.

Zhuo Zhiwei could feel He Qingqi’s gloom, just like earlier, when she precisely grasped her hand.

A slender, fair hand with thin calluses on the fingertips.

However, she was unsure of how to provide comfort. Should it be like a gentle kiss on the cheek last night or a firm grip just now?

There was no need for Zhuo Zhiwei to think too much. He Qingqi gave her the answer.

He Qingqi sighed.

Zhuo Zhiwei glanced at her, recognizing that it was her turn to act. She felt a subtle, inappropriate sense of delight mixed with a faint sadness.

She hesitated for a few seconds, then returned to her usual self, asking softly, “What’s wrong?”

“Just… Fang Xuanyao.” He Qingqi frowned, rubbing her head in frustration. “Actually, I don’t know what to do. I’m really confused right now.”

“It’s not just now; it’s always been.” He Qingqi laughed bitterly. “I never thought we’d end up like this. I believed, at the very least, she would be a sister I could trust.”

“Zhiwei, did you know? I’ve never seen my mother since birth, so my eldest sister was like a mother to me. Do you know how much I trusted her? When I treated her well, it wasn’t to repay her, but because I wanted to, I liked doing it.”

“But in the end…” He Qingqi shook her head mockingly. “The person I trusted most outside of my family used my hopes to deceive me.”

“In the end…” He Qingqi sighed deeply, her face full of lamentation. “It was my own fault. I claimed not to expect anything in return, but deep down, I still had that bit of hope. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been blind to Fang Xuanyao’s manipulation.”

“Sometimes, the saying that one hand alone cannot clap is quite true.”

Actually, the signs of her lack of affection weren’t difficult to find. Fang Xuanyao disliked touching, hugging, kissing, public displays of affection online, and He Qingqi’s visits to her workplace.

Everything about her seemed to displease Fang Xuanyao.

She used to think it was just Fang Xuanyao’s nature. But when the truth came out, she realized it was just because that person was hers.

She was deceiving herself.

She brought her own suffering upon herself.

Seeing her sadness, Zhuo Zhiwei couldn’t help but lower her eyes and frown slightly. Her frown was not out of anger but out of heartache and a subtle, noticeable bitterness rising from the bottom of her heart.

That bitterness climbed from her heart to her head, then spread throughout her body, enveloping her taste buds and soul.

She felt as though someone else was mistreating something she cherished, but she had no right to hold anyone accountable.

Blame… What could she blame? Should she blame the other person for not treating her well, or blame her friend for giving her heart to someone else?

Perhaps the latter. For the first time, the usually upright Zhuo Zhiwei shamefully admitted that she was not as noble as others imagined.

Would friends feel this way?

The fleeting thought from half an hour ago finally took hold, leaving Zhuo Zhiwei confused and a bit lost.

She didn’t have many friends and had never liked anyone, but she wasn’t stupid. One evening, nearly four months into their acquaintance, she finally realized her special feelings for He Qingqi. She just didn’t know if it was a passing illusion or an enduring sentiment.

She pursed her lips, her dark eyes swirling with pain and a hint of longing.

Her breathing became erratic, then calmed down again as Zhuo Zhiwei suppressed all the emotions she shouldn’t have.

“How can this be your fault?” Zhuo Zhiwei’s voice was cool, like the clear sound of camel bells under the moonlight or a feather gently resting on He Qingqi’s heart.

“You’re so good; it’s Fang Xuanyao who is blind. Only someone with ill intentions would use another person’s feelings as a weapon.”

“Qingqi, you did nothing wrong.”

Zhuo Zhiwei took the leash from He Qingqi’s hand and looked at her firmly. “Qingqi, believe me, no one would think this is your fault.”

He Qingqi was momentarily stunned, feeling that there was something in Zhuo Zhiwei’s eyes that she couldn’t understand.

She watched Zhuo Zhiwei’s throat move slightly, her eyelashes trembling: “You just… liked someone.” Her voice was slightly hoarse and inexplicably bitter.

I just liked someone.

He Qingqi turned her head slightly, her eyes misting over, then gradually cleared. She pouted, looking at Zhuo Zhiwei, whose eyes were so determined and convincing.

Suddenly, a cool breeze blew through, as if everything had dissipated, freezing this moment in time. He Qingqi experienced a sense of entanglement in those gazes, reliving past lives.

She blinked and came back to her senses, suddenly feeling that it wasn’t such a big deal. She had experienced deception and hurt, but that was in a previous life, wasn’t it?

Was it?

He Qingqi knew it wasn’t. She couldn’t forgive, but her current feelings told her she could let go. It was not about forgetting the hurt and forgiving the other person, but about bidding farewell to the past and embarking on a fresh start.

She would start anew.

He Qingqi sighed again, but this time with a hint of clarity rather than sorrow. She leaned on Zhuo Zhiwei’s shoulder as they walked, murmuring from her heart, “Zhiwei, you’re really good.”

He Qingqi laughed at herself. “Do you think I’m useless? Even though I’ve known you for a long time, I still find it hard to let go. And now, for the second time, I’ve made you my emotional garbage bin.”

Zhuo Zhiwei smiled slightly and teased, “Does that mean you won’t talk to me again tomorrow?”

“Ah,” He Qingqi’s face showed a pleading expression, begging, “Why bring that up again? I already realized my mistake last time and apologized, didn’t I? I wouldn’t dare do it again. Even if our Zhiwei is generous, I can’t take advantage of it, right?”

Zhuo Zhiwei glanced at her, then raised her chin slightly, huffed, and quickened her pace, saying proudly, “That’s not certain.”

He said, “I really was wrong.”

Walking a dog, especially a large one like a German Shepherd, was quite a task. It took about an hour and a half before they returned to the He residence.

Fang Xuanyao had already left.

He Qingqi was a bit surprised but also found it expected. After all, Fang Xuanyao didn’t truly like her; she just wanted to maintain their relationship.

She thought for a moment, handed the leashes to Aunt Zhang, and casually asked, “Aunt Zhang, when did Sister Xuanyao leave?”

Aunt Zhang thought for a moment, “About half an hour ago. She seemed to have some work to attend to.”

“What’s the matter with having regrets?” Aunt Zhang teased, “You didn’t take the initiative when she was here, and now that she’s gone, you miss her, don’t you?”

“Ah?” He Qingqi laughed awkwardly, not denying it. Whatever you say, Aunt Zhang,.

In Aunt Zhang’s eyes, she was just a shy young person. She gave He Qingqi a knowing look.

He Qingqi stood there helplessly, wondering what Aunt Zhang thought she understood.

She turned around and was startled to see Zhuo Zhiwei feeling guilty. “Zhi-Zhiwei, why are you here?”

Zhuo Zhiwei smiled at her, but He Qingqi felt a chill down her spine. “If I weren’t here, how would I know someone has regrets?”

He Qingqi wanted to cry but had no tears. “Really, I don’t.”

That night, after washing up, He Qingqi lay in bed, fiddling with her phone.

In a group chat named “The Five Menaces of Shi Rui High School,”

Yuan: 【Fireworks】

Nian: 【Fireworks】

Xu: 【Fireworks】

Rui: 【Fireworks】

Xu: Congratulations, Sister Qingqi, on your release!

He Qingqi rolled her eyes, unable to conceal the joy radiating from them. Her slender fingers danced on the screen.

She thought for a few seconds.

Qingqi: How about we meet up sometime?

The group chat exploded. “Sure, where?” “We’ll go wherever Qingqi wants.” “When? I’ll book a flight back.”

The chat was flooded with messages.

He Qingqi’s lips twitched. These four people had the energy of a hundred.

Qingqi: How about the day after tomorrow at 10 a.m.? We have five days off. I have something to do tomorrow. Let’s meet at Mingrui’s equestrian club.  I’ll introduce you to someone.

Tomorrow, she wanted to meet Fang Xuanyao to gauge her intentions.

Xu: Is it Zhuo Zhiwei? It looks like she’s been brought home. Oh, someone’s in love.

He Qingqi immediately pictured Chai Xu winking at her and rolling her eyes.

This Chai Xu had never liked Fang Xuanyao, but in hindsight, he seemed to have been perceptive.

Ever since he knew she liked Fang Xuanyao, he had tried to set her up with many people.

He would push anyone who showed the slightest interest in her, ultimately ruining even friendships.

Thinking of those painful experiences and imagining if Zhuo Zhiwei ended up like them, He Qingqi felt alarmed and narrowed her eyes.

Qingqi: Let me tell you, Chai Xu, that Zhuo Zhiwei is a very important friend to me. If you mess with her, you’re dead!

Rui: Zhuo Zhiwei?

Qingqi: @Rui, please don’t listen to Chai Xu. You know how he is.

Nian: Don’t back down, Xu. Go for it!

Qingqi: @Nian, please be careful. Alright, I’m done talking. I’m sleepy. Good night.

Without waiting for a response, He Qingqi threw her phone aside, lying on her arm and staring at the ceiling.

After a while, she sighed.

He Qingqi’s eyes darkened. It was time to bring up the divorce.

She didn’t know why, but suddenly she felt an urgent need to sever ties with Fang Xuanyao, even if it meant alarming her.

Why?

A cold, stunning face flashed in her mind.

She shook her head.

Suddenly, she looked frightened and gritted her teeth. “Chai Xu, just wait!”

He actually misled her!
