Running Over The Head Of My Ex [Rebirth]

Chapter 40

Chapter 40

The He family always woke up early, and He Qingqi, who generally slept less than others, opened her eyes with a start and stared at the ceiling without any hint of sleepiness at not yet six o’clock. She typically woke up fully alert and rarely went back to sleep like others might.

Upon waking, several key words instantly flooded her mind: end, home, and Zhuo Zhiwei.

She had brought Zhuo Zhiwei home yesterday, met Fang Xuanyao, discovered Zhuo Zhiwei’s secret, and somehow ended up sleeping in the same bed with her.

So He Qingqi turned to her side.

The person next to her slept neatly, with her hands crossed and placed honestly on the quilt, exuding a tranquil beauty devoid of all pretense and coldness.

He Qingqi blinked and observed her in silence for a moment, a smile unexpectedly forming at the corner of her mouth.

So cute.

And… so beautiful.

Long, curly eyelashes cast shadows on her face, and through the mottled morning light filtering through the curtains, He Qingqi could even see the fine white hairs on her face.

Her skin was as good as a baby’s.

Clearly so cute… He Qingqi couldn’t help but think, How could Nan Jue be so heartless? If she had such a cute sister…

He Qingqi shook her head to dispel that unreliable thought. Such matters weren’t her concern; she shouldn’t jump to conclusions easily. Since she wasn’t the third party’s child, she could rationally view the problem from an outsider’s perspective. If it happened to her, she didn’t know how she would react. However, it was unlikely she would be as extreme as Nan Jue, taking all her anger out on the completely innocent Zhuo Zhiwei in this relationship.

Thinking about this, He Qingqi couldn’t help but look at the person before her and sigh. This must be Zhiwei’s helplessness.

Clearly, she had done nothing wrong. After all, coming into this world was not her choice. Should we expect a tadpole to consciously turn around when it reaches its destination, or an embryo to strangle itself with the umbilical cord in the womb?

But carrying this identity made her instantly inferior to others.

Especially to Nan Jue.

Feeling a pang in her heart, He Qingqi stretched out her hand, wanting to touch this person’s cheek, but ultimately paused in the air, curling her fingers back, afraid of waking her up.

She quietly got out of bed, stepped into her slippers, and silently left the room.

As soon as she went out, Aunt Zhang called anxiously behind her, “Chairman, Manager, come back! Your sister hasn’t” woken up yet.

Before she finished her sentence, the two faced each other directly. Aunt Zhang froze, her steps slowing.

Both stood still, wide-eyed, looking at the open bedroom door beside them, with a large tail sticking out from the doorway.

The chairman opened the door, leading his son to look at the empty bed, tilt his head, and let out a puzzled hum.

Aunt Zhang was obviously confused too, glancing at Zhuo Zhiwei’s room, where He Qingqi’s hand still held the doorknob. “Qingqi, last night…”

Upon seeing this, He Qingqi experienced a sensation akin to electrocution, instantly releasing her grip. She felt a bit guilty as the rush of blood heated her chest and spread to her face.

Her gaze wandered slightly, and her ears turned pink.

Even though nothing had happened, she appeared guilty.

Aunt Zhang was even more shocked, blurting out, “This is too fast!”

Not long ago, she was still reluctant to part with Fang Xuanyao, and now, just a few months later, she brought home a new girl and even slept with her.

“What!” He Qingqi’s face flushed red, her neck stiff. “Auntie, what are you thinking? What’s wrong with good friends sleeping together?”

Aunt Zhang gave her a doubtful look. Good friends sleeping together wasn’t an issue, but her behavior clearly suggested they were more than just good friends.

She didn’t ask any further. Although Qingqi often misbehaved, it was unlikely she’d sleep with someone on their first day at home.

Romance, however, was possible.

So she nodded knowingly: “Auntie was just talking.”

He Qingqi was about to argue further when she heard this, but seeing the expression, she felt even more powerless; her breath stuck in her chest.

He Qingqi, feeling helpless, said, “Auntie, I really didn’t.”

Aunt Zhang seemed to believe her a bit more, then invited: “Want to walk the dog with Auntie?”

He Qingqi lowered her head, waving her hand. “Go ahead.”

She needed to go out, clear her head, and calm her mind.

An hour and a half later.

He Qingqi drove her long-unseen car out of the garage.

She wore a plain white T-shirt and black ripped jeans, with a white belt around her waist, making her legs look even longer.

Grandma He sat on the third floor, looking at her through the large floor-to-ceiling window, feeling more and more that her granddaughter was beautiful, no less so than Zhuo Zhiwei, feeling quite pleased.

Just like me.

She saw He Qingqi wiping the car and opened the window. “Qingqi, are you going out today?”

He Qingqi lifted her cap, looking up. “Yeah, planning to get a tattoo… By the way, grandma, Zhiwei, and I will be staying at Yijingyuan tonight; there is no need to wait for us.”

Grandma He thought for a moment and understood, internally complaining. Her granddaughter was shy about many things, but they had to get used to living together eventually, right?

Aunt Zhang had just returned and told them about seeing He Qingqi come out of Zhuo Zhiwei’s room in the morning. Now, everyone in the He family knows about this.

Some didn’t care, some were delighted, and Grandma He was obviously the latter.

She didn’t like Fang Xuanyao much; she was always polite but cold to their Qingqi, compared to Zhuo Zhiwei, who, though equally aloof, at least made her granddaughter happy at first sight.

Her eyes sparkled like stars.

Grandma He, being experienced, could see through this immediately.

Suddenly thinking of something, Grandma He looked worried, shouting, “Qingqi, why get a tattoo? Won’t it hurt? Is it safe?”

He Qingqi stopped what she was doing: “It’s fine, grandma; Xuxu recommended a beauty salon; they can do it there.”

Grandma He felt relieved. “That’s fine.”

Probably really exhausted, Zhuo Zhiwei didn’t wake up until nine. Groggily, she reached under her pillow for her phone, her eyes widening at the time, sitting up instantly, fully awake.

This was her first visit, and she slept this late… Wouldn’t that leave a negative impression on Qingqi’s family?

Annoyance appeared on her usually calm face as she patted her head.

Moreover, they had agreed to get tattoos together yesterday.

Unlocking her phone with a fingerprint, Zhuo Zhiwei looked at the conversation she had pinned last night, bit her lip, and unpinned it.

It was a bit ostentatious.

Just let it be.

Zhuo Zhiwei: Where are you?

Within seconds.

Qingqi: In the living room~

With a tilde at the end, Zhuo Zhiwei smiled, feeling like she could hear Qingqi’s clear, slightly coquettish voice.

Zhuo Zhiwei: I’ll be down soon.

Qingqi: Okay~

Zhuo Zhiwei put down her phone, her ears tinged with pink, and bit her lip.

Too cute.

She dressed quickly, washed up in record time, and went downstairs, all in one go.

He Qingqi was sitting in the living room on the first floor at the time, eating an orange and watching TV.

Her legs stretched out on the sofa, looking slender and long.

Hearing movement, He Qingqi looked up, her eyes curving into crescents. “Zhiwei, you’re here! When are we leaving?”

“Now is fine.” Zhuo Zhiwei’s face was slightly red. “Sorry, I was too tired yesterday and woke up late.”

“!!!”

Aunt Zhang’s hand paused, looking up in shock, glancing at Zhuo Zhiwei with disbelief, then glaring at He Qingqi.

He Qingqi: “…”

Zhuo Zhiwei: “???”

The cool beauty tilted her head, puzzled: “Auntie, is something wrong?”

“No, no.” Aunt Zhang quickly smiled. This was the future daughter-in-law, not just some girl.

“You two have fun.” Aunt Zhang said earnestly, “Remember to take care of yourselves; if you’re tired, let Qingqi bring you home.”

Before they left, she pulled He Qingqi aside, giving her a pointed look: “Be moderate.”

He Qingqi: “??!!”

What a suggestion.

“I didn’t!”

Aunt Zhang brushed it off: “Alright, you didn’t.”

But her eyes clearly said, Don’t explain; you did.

He Qingqi, nearly in tears, exclaimed, “I really didn’t!”

“Mm-hmm.” Aunt Zhang continued brushing it off: “Zhiwei is waiting for you; go on.”

The whole scene left Zhuo Zhiwei confused, and once they were out the door, she asked, “What’s with Aunt Zhang?”

He Qingqi, for some reason, blurted out, “She thinks we did something!”

The moment she said it, her ears burned, her face felt hot, and she thought she must be crazy to say such a thing.

Zhuo Zhiwei was stunned, her expression calm as always, except for a suspicious blush on her neck and a slight twitch in her ears.

She looked dignified, not afraid of rumors.

Fortunately, He Qingqi, embarrassed, didn’t notice her vulnerability.

He Qingqi stiffened her neck. “What nonsense!”

She turned, quickening her pace, though a bit shaky. She opened the car door and sat in the driver’s seat.

Seeing this, Zhuo Zhiwei was surprised, sitting in the passenger seat with a slightly worried tone: “Qingqi, can you drive?”

The doubt in her voice provoked He Qingqi, who was always strong-willed.

The proud little lioness held her head high: “Just because I’m a woman doesn’t mean I can’t!”

Zhuo Zhiwei: “…”
