Running Over The Head Of My Ex [Rebirth]

Chapter 63

Chapter 63

He Qingqi’s temples throbbed as the curiosity she had just felt abruptly fell to the ground with a thud, shattering into pieces. Her teeth itched with frustration, and she was about to speak up and hang up the phone when…

“I remember now!”

Tao Jinghan’s eyes lit up, a subtle excitement gleaming beneath her gaze. “Have you watched the latest episode of Journey of Miracles?”

As she spoke, a teasing smile flickered at the corner of her eyes, as if she had seen through He Qingqi’s secret.

He Qingqi’s expression froze, her face darkening as she glared at Tao Jinghan.

It was hard not to know about it. These past few days, she had been so busy that her feet barely touched the ground, and Lin Xi only let her eat salad. Every day she returned to the dormitory, she just wanted to sleep to quickly get through the hunger and exhaustion of the day.

That night, just as she was about to drift off, her phone under the pillow exploded like a clap of thunder, shocking her out of her daze and completely driving away any drowsiness.

It was Lin Xi.

She steadied herself, calmed her rising irritation, and answered the call as gently as she could, only to be told by Lin Xi to watch Journey of Miracles.

And then she saw something that utterly crushed her.

Her heart instantly sank.

Seeing this, Tao Jinghan couldn’t help but laugh, knowing that He Qingqi must have watched it. Her laughter carried a hint of schadenfreude.

“I knew it was too much of a coincidence, huh? Uncle Tong, can I get a backdoor entry?” Tao Jinghan mimicked He Qingqi’s tone.

Then she clicked her tongue twice, mocking her. “The great little He always finds a way to use her skills for something like this.”

“I do what I want!” He Qingqi retorted, suppressing her shame and anger. Just thinking about it made her want to kill Tong Ningze. She was already planning that when she had time, she’d ask Jiang Zhaonian to bring a few martial arts students and put a sack over Tong Ningze’s head, making sure he’d cry for help but find no one to save him.

Of course, this was just a thought.

But then she thought about how the CP (couple pairing) super topic had been buzzing with excitement these days, almost like a festival, and she couldn’t help but feel a bit elated. The fan-made videos were now her only source of mental sustenance.

Qingwei was real! She thought to herself. Even if it wasn’t real now, she would make sure it became real in the future.

At the very least, she couldn’t let her fans down, automatically filtering out those who didn’t want her to date.

After chatting with Tao Jinghan for a while, she hung up the phone.

Not long after, Zhuo Zhiwei came online, and they immediately connected through a video call. The two of them chatted excitedly for a while, neither wanting to end the rare dual call.

Tao Jinghan, who wasn’t there and was being gossiped about:????

Finally, it was He Qingqi who noticed the mist forming in Zhuo Zhiwei’s eyes, a clear sign of exhaustion from the day. She took the initiative to end their conversation for the night.

The dim lighting of the hotel only made Zhuo Zhiwei’s face look even more fragile.

“Weiwei,” He Qingqi couldn’t help but call out just before the call ended. Her eyes softened with a hint of tenderness and helplessness as she looked at her. “Take good care of yourself.”

She suddenly remembered the Zhuo Zhiwei of the past.

Cold, serious, like a robot that never tired, always working, known as the hardest-working person in the entertainment industry.

She lived with a reversed day-and-night schedule and often forgot to eat. It was inevitable that she would fall ill, and she had even fainted on set and trended on social media more than once.

He Qingqi felt a sharp pain in her heart, her gaze deepening with worry and her brow furrowing slightly.

But outside of their joint activities, she could only watch from a distance, like a general who could only give orders from afar.

A sense of frustration and powerlessness welled up in her heart again. She repeated, “Weiwei, you have to take care of yourself.”

Zhuo Zhiwei blinked, not quite sure why He Qingqi suddenly had such an expression, suddenly transforming from a silly little lion into a serious and responsible lion king. But she could feel the sincerity and warmth in He Qingqi’s heart, which, at least at this moment, beat for her.

She pressed her lips together with a hint of happiness.

“I know,” she said softly.

Her gaze flickered as she stared at those amber eyes full of seriousness, lightly biting her lower lip.

Where He Qingqi couldn’t see, she clenched her fist, her palm sweating with nerves.

Gathering her courage, she said in a voice so unfamiliar even to herself, “Qingqi, I really want to see you right now.”

Her tone was filled with a vast and surging love, like a silent ocean that engulfed her, not scorching but warm enough to ignite He Qingqi’s heart.

He Qingqi froze, her breath catching and her heart skipping a beat.

After a moment, she calmly adjusted her breathing, saying, “Me too.”

As soon as she spoke, He Qingqi let out a low laugh, her voice tinged with joy as it traveled through the phone, carrying a soft, lingering sweetness.

Zhuo Zhiwei’s heart fluttered, the already intense longing in her chest growing wild like weeds.

Feeling a bit silly for laughing, He Qingqi quickly added, “Jinghan just sent me a silly video.”

She laughed even before clicking on it.

He Qingqi mentally kicked herself.

Luckily, Zhuo Zhiwei, lost in the rhythm of her heartbeat, didn’t notice. She just nodded, and they wished each other goodnight before hanging up.

He Qingqi lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling, replaying the earlier scene in her mind.

“Qingqi, I really want to see you right now.”

She didn’t know how many times that sentence replayed in her head.

Finally, He Qingqi couldn’t resist flipping over, burying her face in the pillow. Holding her breath, she couldn’t calm her racing heart, so she peeked out with bright eyes, blinking.

He Qingqi, you can do this!

She clenched her fists, her eyes shining with determination, and slowly drifted off to sleep.

Two days passed quickly. Before He Qingqi could see Zhuo Zhiwei, she received her latest itinerary. She was stunned, staring in disbelief at Lin Xi.

Her fingers even trembled slightly.

It was a reality show about managing a guesthouse, where celebrities would run the place away from the hustle and bustle, rediscovering their original intentions in a slow-paced life.

The show was called *Qi Ran’s Guesthouse. Qi Ran was the main star, a top-tier actor who had been secretly married for years. His wife was also in the industry. As soon as the news broke, they seized the opportunity and launched this show, a couple’s gig.

Besides He Qingqi, the other regular guests were Chai Xu and Lin Dao.

Lin Xi glanced at her calmly. “Is there a problem?”

Her tone was still calm and gentle, but to He Qingqi, it sounded chilling.

After a moment of silence, He Qingqi pressed her lips together, feeling slightly defeated. “No.”

Lin Xi smiled in satisfaction. “Then pack up. Lin Fan will take you to the airport at two in the afternoon.”

He Qingqi looked at her, her lips moving as if she wanted to say something but then hesitated.

“What’s the matter?” Lin Xi asked with a chuckle, seeing her hesitation. “If you have something to say, just say it.”

After these days together, she had found that He Qingqi wasn’t as difficult as she had imagined—dedicated and obedient, doing whatever she was told.

More importantly, she had no scandals. Her love life was like a blank sheet of paper, with no ex-boyfriends suddenly popping up online, just stories of her cringy teenage years.

So Lin Xi had naturally relaxed around her.

After all, she was just a nineteen-year-old girl, Lin Xi thought.

He Qingqi thought for a moment, then chuckled awkwardly. “Can I wait in the dormitory until Zhuo Zhiwei comes back before I go?”

In front of Lin Xi, she cautiously changed the way she addressed her to “Zhuo Zhiwei.”

A strange feeling arose in Lin Xi’s heart, and she glanced curiously at He Qingqi. “Do you have something to discuss with her?”

He Qingqi’s eyes flickered. “Yes, I have something to tell her.”

“Well…” Lin Xi paused, then suddenly laughed, tapping her forehead. “Did I forget to tell you that Zhuo Zhiwei will be joining you?”

He Qingqi:!!!

Her eyes lit up with uncontrollable joy. “Really?”

“Why would I lie to you?” Lin Xi laughed, amused by her reaction. “You two really get along well. It’s nice to see you so happy to join a show together.”

Though she said this, the odd feeling lingered in Lin Xi’s heart. But it wasn’t unusual for girls to want to stick close to their friends, so she brushed it off as her overthinking.

She continued curiously, “Were you like this during 偶时?”

He Qingqi’s expression grew a bit unnatural, her eyes dodging for a moment before she quickly returned to normal, answering calmly, “Yes.”

“It was like we were old friends at first sight,” He Qingqi said seriously, her eyes filled with a hint of nostalgia.

She completely forgot how she had avoided Zhuo Zhiwei in their past lives.

Lin Xi nodded, slightly envious. “That’s nice, being able to get along so well with a colleague.”

The word “colleague” pricked at He Qingqi’s heart, causing her brow to furrow slightly. She didn’t like others defining her relationship with Zhuo Zhiwei that way.

But then she let it go, glancing at Lin Xi without showing any emotion.

This was just another obstacle on her path to winning Zhuo Zhiwei’s heart.

If Lin Xi kept thinking of them as just colleagues, she might keep arranging for them to be on shows together.

Once she succeeded in her pursuit, she could tell Lin Xi later.

With that thought, He Qingqi couldn’t help but flash a sly smile, like a little fox.

As soon as Lin Xi left, He Qingqi couldn’t resist tapping on the chat pinned at the top of her messages with Zhuo Zhiwei. She had even changed the nickname to “Weiwei.”

She had no reservations; it was her phone, and her love was always intense and bold, unafraid of anyone’s scrutiny.

He Qingqi: Weiwei! We’ll see each other this afternoon, surprised? Excited?

Within seconds, her phone buzzed.

Weiwei: Surprised, but not unexpected.

There was always a period after the message, which was her style. He Qingqi couldn’t help but chuckle softly, her eyes and lips filled with joy.

He Qingqi: Then see you this afternoon.

She sent along a silly sticker of a Shiba Inu on a swing, smiling goofily.

Weiwei: See you this afternoon; I’m about to go through security.

She added another sticker, one that said, “Miss you.”

He Qingqi clutched her heart with a grin, licking her lips as she looked out the window, eagerly anticipating their meeting that afternoon.

The flight was already boarding, and after a brief wait and a quick sprint, the plane took off.

He Qingqi sat by the window, watching as the city shrank rapidly from her view, disappearing completely.

After a three-hour journey, she arrived at her destination at 5 p.m., where the show’s team was waiting at the airport.

He Qingqi initially thought she’d be the only one arriving at that time, but suddenly, Chai Xu appeared behind her, jumping up to tap her on the shoulder.

“Sister Qingqi!”

He flashed a big, bright smile—the one He Qingqi knew all too well.

He Qingqi hesitated, seemingly at a loss for words. “Why are you here?”

Chai Xu blinked, confused, and then slowly asked, “Qing… Qingqi, we’re on the same show, remember?”

“That’s not what I meant.” He Qingqi felt a few lines of frustration appear on her forehead as she casually reported her flight number.

Chai Xu was initially surprised. “I’m on the same one, Sister Qingqi! So you were in B City!”

Then he showed a look of regret. “Why didn’t we check when we boarded?”

They had only been off by a second.

He Qingqi patted his shoulder. “Xu Xu, it’s really not that necessary.”

With that, she sighed.

“Like a little idiot… no, a little lovesick fool.”

Chai Xu blinked, looking pitiful.

“I’m not your girlfriend,” He Qingqi muttered as they walked.

At this, Chai Xu perked up, winking at her and lowering his voice. “I know, of course, you’re not my girlfriend; you’re…”

He paused, feeling unsure. He Qingqi looked at him curiously.

Then her little childhood friend exaggeratedly mouthed, Zhuo Zhiwei.

“Girlfriend.”

He Qingqi raised an eyebrow, her eyes sparkling with amusement as she glanced at him before turning away without a word. Her chin lifted slightly in pride as she walked away.

Chai Xu:!!!

She didn’t deny it. Chai Xu’s eyes lit up, unable to contain his excitement.

He almost wanted to cry like a proud mother, itching to grab his phone and share the news with Gu Mingrui and the others.

Rui-ge!

Chai Xu screamed in his mind. Look at what I’ve discovered!

Qingqi… She’s finally come around!

T/N: Hey everyone! SIC has officially wrapped up on Patreon, and I’ve been busy finalizing edits for ARIMTFE and TISAG. ARIMTFE is done 🎉, and I’ll be releasing the edited version for free this weekend. Downloads (EPUB/PDF) will be available later this coming week! TISAG will follow shortly after I finish the last few chapters.

I’ll also be starting edits for TPOCTTWFP and WSIDMYBCHTLM in the next couple of weeks (these will go much faster than ARIMTFE and TISAG).

As for SIC‘s replacement, I’m open to suggestions! I’ll open a poll today (on Patreon, available to everyone) so you can help decide whether we pick up a paused project or start something new.

Thanks, and have a great day!
