Chapter 83
Chapter 83
Late at night, the streets were nearly deserted, and only a few cars were scattered here and there. The fast-paced rhythm of the day had come to an end under the night sky as He Qingqi weaved through the road, watching the scenery rapidly recede.
Halfway through, the dark clouds suddenly split open, revealing a sliver of moonlight that spilled its pale glow over the ground.
He Qingqi’s heart pounded wildly as she approached the hotel where Wonders was staying.
She was eager to see Zhuo Zhiwei.
After parking, He Qingqi, still panting heavily, leapt up with her long legs, quickly registered at the front desk, and took the elevator upstairs.
Then came a series of urgent knocks at the door.
A faint voice came from inside: “Who is it?”
“It’s me, He Qingqi.”
The door opened, and Tao Jinghan looked at her with surprise, holding a glass of water in her hand. “Weren’t you going home? Why are you here?”
Since He Qingqi wasn’t around, the six of them had split into three rooms. Tao Jinghan, being closer to Zhuo Zhiwei, had decided to room with her.
He Qingqi, still breathless from her run, bent slightly at the waist with her hands on her hips, catching her breath. She waved her hand dismissively and, without hesitation, snatched the glass from Tao Jinghan’s hand. “Have you drunk this?”
Tao Jinghan replied, “…No.”
“I just poured it when you knocked.”
He Qingqi gulped it down, then flashed a bright smile. “Thanks.”
Tao Jinghan rubbed her nose. “No problem.”
She stepped aside and said, “Come on in. Although this hotel is private, it’s still good to be cautious.”
He Qingqi nodded repeatedly, slipped inside, and craned her neck, peering around the room.
She looked at Tao Jinghan eagerly, her eyes clear and bright. “Where’s Weiwei?”
Like a small, hungry creature waiting to be fed.
Tao Jinghan was speechless for a moment. After a while, she couldn’t help but say, “You’re kidding, right? You two have only been apart for a few hours. Are you two really dating?”
He Qingqi blinked, surprised. “You didn’t know?”
“We’ve been together for almost a month now.”
Tao Jinghan’s expression froze, and she felt as if she could hear the sound of a knife piercing her heart—this was the legendary love triangle…
“I didn’t know!” she exclaimed, distraught. “Neither of you told me!”
They were all friends, but somehow, she had missed this.
He Qingqi, feeling awkward, squeezed the paper cup and smiled sheepishly. “We must’ve forgotten.”
Tao Jinghan didn’t want to continue the conversation. She waved her hand weakly, pointing toward the room. “She’s still in the shower. Go find her. Now that you’re together, there’s no need to be shy.”
He Qingqi blinked innocently, glanced at the bedroom door, then at Tao Jinghan, her eyes filled with eagerness. “I’m going in, then.”
“Go, go.”
The shower was still running. He Qingqi took off her coat and hung it up, sitting down on one of the beds.
Zhuo Zhiwei faintly heard some rustling noises outside. She frowned slightly, turned off the shower, and asked tentatively, “Jinghan, is that you?”
He Qingqi touched her earlobe, her cheeks reddening. She intentionally kept silent, wanting to surprise her, blinking mischievously.
No response came.
Zhuo Zhiwei dismissed her doubts, thinking she had misheard, and continued her shower.
Soon, the sound of water stopped, and she dried herself off, followed by the noise of a hairdryer.
The bathroom door opened, and in her view was the very person who was supposed to be at home, sitting idly on her bed and playing with her phone. Zhuo Zhiwei’s pupils widened slightly, and behind her surprise lay an abundance of joy and sweetness.
Zhuo Zhiwei knew that not long ago, this person had been with her ex-wife.
Her heart had felt lost and helpless, but she had rationally let He Qingqi go for a final farewell.
Thus, her stubbornness had been left in the darkness, quietly stirring her heart.
But now, this person was sitting in her room.
The emptiness in her chest was filled again, feeling reassuring as if this person would now be hers alone.
Zhuo Zhiwei’s possessiveness was instantly satisfied.
As their eyes met, He Qingqi could no longer restrain her impulse. She strode toward Zhuo Zhiwei, pressing her against the wall before she could react.
Desire erupted, followed by a fervent kiss that engulfed everything.
Her kisses were no longer shy or accommodating but transformed into a burning flame that roamed boldly on Zhuo Zhiwei’s lips. Gentle kisses no longer sufficed; her tongue forcefully broke through the defenses, entwining passionately.
Zhuo Zhiwei clung to her arm, passively enduring it all, her mind in a haze as oxygen seemed to run low, leaving her in a daze, her body weak and soft.
After a long moment.
Zhuo Zhiwei gazed at He Qingqi with dreamy eyes, her head spinning, her gaze wet with a mix of bewilderment and a strange innocence.
He Qingqi’s eyes darkened. She gripped Zhuo Zhiwei’s slim waist, her urgent longing making her want to devour this person entirely.
She gritted her teeth, breathing rapidly into Zhuo Zhiwei’s ear, “Weiwei, I really, really missed you.”
Her hands wandered, sometimes brushing the small dimples on Zhuo Zhiwei’s waist, her lips grazing her ear.
Her cool fingers made Zhuo Zhiwei shiver, and she fell into He Qingqi’s arms, breathing softly against her shoulder.
Zhuo Zhiwei was an adult, fully aware of the sensations coursing through her—tingling and a hint of sticky warmth that indicated where this was heading. He Qingqi’s lips moved to her neck, her hand moving upward…
Zhuo Zhiwei’s lips quivered as she tilted her neck, her eyes slowly closing.
Just as she was about to give in to her desires, she remembered…
Tao Jinghan was still in the living room.
She opened her eyes abruptly, her body temperature dropping.
She pushed He Qingqi away, her brows furrowed slightly, her dark eyes filled with a mix of emotions—desire, reluctance, anticipation, and conflict—all flitting by before settling into rationality.
“No,” she forced the words out.
She swallowed hard, her throat bobbing. “Jinghan’s outside.”
He Qingqi paused, then obediently withdrew her hand. Seeing Zhuo Zhiwei’s conflicted expression, she remembered her past self.
Her heart ached suddenly.
Gently, she stroked Zhuo Zhiwei’s eyes, her gaze lingering at the corners, a veil of sorrow clouding her eyes.
She grasped Zhuo Zhiwei’s wrist, her look pleading. “Weiwei, can you always, always look at me?”
Her voice tinged with melancholy, she continued, “Only look at me, forever, okay?” Her tone was tender, as if speaking to something fragile.
Zhuo Zhiwei’s love was too precious, feeding He Qingqi’s possessiveness like wild weeds, selfishly wanting to keep those clear eyes just for herself.
Moved by He Qingqi’s intense emotions, Zhuo Zhiwei nodded earnestly. “I will.”
She spoke softly, completing the unspoken words hidden in He Qingqi’s emotions: “I will always look at you, always trust you, and always… only love you.”
“Qixi, I am yours.” She gently stroked He Qingqi’s cheek, smoothing out her frown, a soft smile gracing her lips. “You can be willful with me, you can act spoiled, and I will embrace all your emotions.”
Her words were like a gentle current flowing through He Qingqi’s heart. She breathed heavily, her hands wandering restlessly, but she dared not go any further, afraid of what might follow.
He Qingqi then expressed her feelings clearly: “I feel the same. I will only ever love you.”
Zhuo Zhiwei heard this, first blushing sweetly before a wave of jealousy surged within her. She pouted slightly. “You liar!”
Her tone was inexplicably sulky.
He Qingqi panicked. “I’m not! I truly, truly only love you!”
“What about Fang Xuanyao?” Zhuo Zhiwei stared at He Qingqi with her clear black and white eyes, filled with grievance.
He Qingqi’s confidence crumbled instantly. She lowered her gaze, mumbling, “From today onwards.”
Zhuo Zhiwei, sharp-tongued, pressed on, “So yesterday, the day before, and the day before that, you still had Fang Xuanyao in your heart?”
He Qingqi’s face fell. “No, I swear!”
Zhuo Zhiwei glanced at her, tilting her chin up slightly, then pushed her away and sat on the bed, seemingly sulking. But her eyes were not cold, her lips not pursed—it seemed more like she was acting spoiled, expressing her dissatisfaction.
He Qingqi blinked, standing helplessly, gazing at her with a soft, gentle smile, her eyes as if they could melt Zhuo Zhiwei.
Zhuo Zhiwei’s brows suddenly furrowed, sensing there was more to He Qingqi’s intense emotions than she let on.
“Why are you so emotional tonight?” she asked, crossing her arms and assuming the posture of a strict teacher.
“So, what did Fang Xuanyao say to you tonight?”
“Um…” He Qingqi rubbed her nose, feeling awkward, and then tried to play innocent: “Can I not say?”
It was a trick that never failed.
Plus, Zhuo Zhiwei had once said that if there was something she didn’t want to share, she didn’t have to.
However, Zhuo Zhiwei’s lips moved coldly. “No, you can’t.”
He Qingqi deflated immediately, looking at Zhuo Zhiwei pitifully. “Just something about the past life.”
Zhuo Zhiwei raised an eyebrow, understanding.
She inspected her nails nonchalantly and said, “About how I liked you in my past life, right?”
He Qingqi: “!!!”
She couldn’t help but ask, “Weiwei, how did you know you liked me in your past life?”
Zhuo Zhiwei’s eyes flashed with helplessness. “Silly…”
“Though I didn’t experience it myself, we are the same person. Our early experiences were similar, so we were destined to like the same person. It’s a feeling imprinted deep in our souls; no matter when, I couldn’t change my feelings for you.”
Zhuo Zhiwei looked up, her eyes soft and curved. “Qixi, you were curious about when I started liking you, right?”
He Qingqi’s eyes sparkled. “When?”
Zhuo Zhiwei answered frankly, “Honestly, I don’t really know either. But I think… it might have been love at first sight.”
For a moment, He Qingqi’s eyes shone brightly, almost reflective.
Confessing her feelings so openly to the one she loved was… deeply embarrassing.
Zhuo Zhiwei’s cheeks flushed, and she squeezed her fingers, fighting off her shyness to continue. “Do you know what I thought when I saw you swoop in to stand up for me?”
He Qingqi blinked twice. “What did you think?”
“I thought, this girl is so beautiful, like a savior descending from the heavens.”
“And I also thought, why didn’t you appear when I was younger? Then, I wouldn’t have been so lonely. Maybe I would have had a friend.”
“I wanted a friend.”
Zhuo Zhiwei chuckled softly, her gaze sincere. “Or maybe… I wanted a girlfriend.”
