Chapter 84
Chapter 84
He Qingqi bit her lip and smiled, lowering her gaze briefly before lifting her eyes again, her gaze soft and liquid.
Love at first sight?
Those four words were too captivating, like a pull from the soul itself. They were destined to be together…
“I… I like you too.”
After a moment of thought, she asked, “Am I pretty?” Her eyes were wide as she looked at Zhuo Zhiwei, as if she were fluffing her golden fur, the tip of her tail twitching, hoping for praise.
Zhuo Zhiwei smiled and nodded, looking directly at He Qingqi, without holding back her compliments. “Of course, you’re always the brightest one in the crowd.”
Radiant, like someone illuminated by the sun.
That’s how she had always been in her heart—her savior.
Zhuo Zhiwei’s expression was one of serene sincerity, her clear, sharp eyes making everything she said feel so convincing.
He Qingqi’s heart skipped a beat, fireworks seemed to explode in her eyes, lighting up the night.
“It’s obviously you.”
Zhuo Zhiwei’s lips curled into a barely noticeable smile. Now everything was clear.
When He Qingqi saw Fang Xuanyao, who had also been reborn like her, she understood Zhuo Zhiwei’s past life—her waiting, her silence. Overcome by emotion, she had impulsively come to find herself…
Suddenly, a bittersweet feeling welled up inside her, complex and overwhelming…
In the end, she had taken advantage of the Zhuo Zhiwei from her previous life.
But, were the her from this life and the her from the past truly the same person?
She didn’t know.
Zhuo Zhiwei’s heart was a bit unsettled.
But one thing was crystal clear—whether or not they were the same person, the one He Qingqi loved was her.
So, she cherished that Zhuo Zhiwei, the one she wasn’t sure was herself, even more.
Had He Qingqi merely rewound time, or had she crossed into a parallel world?
If it were a parallel world, would that person have her own He Qingqi?
But Qingqi said she had died…
Her gaze turned misty, and she looked up at He Qingqi, her voice soft as she called, “Come here.”
She seemed a bit vulnerable…
He Qingqi was stunned for a moment, her heart aching at the sight, and obediently walked over.
Zhuo Zhiwei grabbed her arm, pulling her close, hugging her tightly around the waist.
As if only by holding her could she find some semblance of peace and reality.
This person was hers.
“Qingqi…” she called softly.
He Qingqi gently twirled a strand of her hair. “What’s wrong?”
The person in her arms shook her head, muffled. “I just wanted to call you.”
“Then call me a few more times.”
“Qingqi… Qingqi…”
Neither knew when or how it started, but the rising heat in the room made both of them lose their senses.
By the time they realized it, Zhuo Zhiwei was already beneath He Qingqi on the bed, soft kisses falling on her neck, their fingers intertwined, with Zhuo Zhiwei’s wrists pinned to the mattress.
A tingling current surged through her body, and for a moment, her heart stopped, only to resume beating faster and stronger. Zhuo Zhiwei shuddered, and her reason returned.
“Qingqi…”
She was worried they were going too far again.
Her heart raced with anxiety.
He Qingqi’s eyes darkened, her voice low and hoarse. “I know.”
She murmured softly.
But her lips didn’t stop, her tongue brushing against Zhuo Zhiwei’s slightly trembling throat, as scenes from the first night they were together flooded her mind.
Her tongue twirled, inexplicably tasting like milk, mixed with the fresh scent of body wash.
He Qingqi struggled to suppress her urge, muttering indistinctly, “Jinghan is outside…”
“I’m just kissing you.”
“Really, just kissing. Nothing more.” He Qingqi coaxed her.
But one hand had already slipped under her robe, cupping those soft little things, her index finger gently grazing over them.
Zhuo Zhiwei bit down hard on her lip, her toes curling, her face flushed, her eyes glancing away as her body arched upward, pressing closer to He Qingqi.
Her free hand couldn’t help but clutch the bed sheets.
He Qingqi whispered, “Weiwei, be good. Tell me, who am I?”
Zhuo Zhiwei bit her lip and obediently replied, “My… girlfriend.”
There was a barely noticeable pause in her words, revealing the storm of desire surging inside her.
Not ex-girlfriend.
A satisfied smile curved on He Qingqi’s lips.
She asked again, “When did you fall in love with me?”
“At first… sight.”
“Say it again?”
“At…”
Zhuo Zhiwei couldn’t get the words out.
He Qingqi stopped her movements, gazing down at the girl beneath her. With her eyes closed, her long lashes made her seem even more delicate, and the usually serene eyes now glistened with a deep red hue.
He Qingqi looked away, not daring to continue. If she did, something would definitely happen today.
She flipped onto her back, sprawling out on the bed, then with a tug, pulled Zhuo Zhiwei into her arms, gently nuzzling her hair as she took a deep breath.
Zhuo Zhiwei, recalling what had just happened, felt her ears burn. Pressing herself into He Qingqi’s embrace, she playfully poked her waist over and over.
“You lied to me again.”
Each poke sent shivers through He Qingqi, who grabbed her mischievous fingers and looked down at her, blinking innocently as she shook her sweatshirt. “Then why don’t you try? I’ll offer myself as repayment.”
Zhuo Zhiwei raised an eyebrow. “Sure.”
He Qingqi shut her eyes and lifted her chin, pretending to be heroic. “Go ahead!”
It was clear she thought she had the upper hand.
Zhuo Zhiwei, exasperated, kicked her. “Do you have no shame?”
He Qingqi, acting confused, tilted her head and hesitantly asked, “Shame…? Is that your sister?” Her eyes were so clear, she could have been serious.
Zhuo Zhiwei: “…”
She kicked her again, growling, “Just you wait!”
He Qingqi blinked and replied sincerely, “I’ll wait.”
Then, she pulled Zhuo Zhiwei back into her arms.
No one knew how much time passed, but fortunately, Tao Jinghan knew not to disturb them.
Suddenly, He Qingqi seemed to remember something, her eyes widening slightly before looking down at Zhuo Zhiwei’s head.
“Um…” She hesitated, “There’s something I forgot to tell you.”
Zhuo Zhiwei looked up, her gaze landing on He Qingqi’s smooth chin, and she couldn’t help but bite it lightly, running her tongue over the spot as she asked, “What is it? Why are you being so vague?”
Suddenly, a sense of caution flared. “Did you do something behind my back?”
“Does it have to do with Fang Xuanyao?”
“What did you do with her?”
“Did you hug her?”
Zhuo Zhiwei, usually so quiet, began firing questions like a machine gun, her brows furrowed, her lips pouting as she glared at He Qingqi.
He Qingqi blinked, her heart bursting with pink bubbles. Weiwei… she’s too adorable.
Even when she’s jealous, she’s adorable.
And this side of her, only she could see.
He Qingqi’s heart swelled, full to the brim.
But…
“How do you know she wanted to hug me?” He Qingqi was confused, missing the point entirely.
Weiwei should have been at the hotel the whole time. How did she act as if she’d seen it firsthand?
Her words were like poking a hornet’s nest. No denial, so it must have happened?
Before, over the phone, she’d had to feign calmness to cover her inner turmoil. But now, with He Qingqi right in front of her, she wanted to unleash all the pent-up frustration she’d kept in check.
Zhuo Zhiwei’s face turned cold as she pushed away from He Qingqi’s embrace.
He Qingqi quickly tried to salvage the situation. “No, no, no! She wanted to hug me, but I didn’t hug her.”
Zhuo Zhiwei jabbed at her. “Who cares, ex-girlfriend!”
Ex-girlfriend again?
One step forward, two steps back. He Qingqi wanted to slap herself for her earlier carelessness. When would she ever get an official title?
Suddenly, an idea popped into He Qingqi’s head. She mimicked Zhuo Zhiwei’s tone and said, “Can friends kiss?”
Zhuo Zhiwei glared at her. “Like us, for example?”
Throwing her words right back at her.
He Qingqi deflated, awkwardly explaining, “Really, we didn’t do anything. We don’t even have each other’s contact info anymore. If you don’t believe me, check!”
He Qingqi unlocked her phone, holding it out like a loyal puppy for Zhuo Zhiwei to check.
Zhuo Zhiwei gave her a long, hard look, then scrolled through her contacts. Sure enough, no suspicious names. No messages on WeChat, either.
Her gaze shifted thoughtfully before she arched an eyebrow, her eyes flashing with a hint of amusement.
She opened QQ.
Zhuo Zhiwei tossed He Qingqi’s phone onto the bed and swung her long legs out of bed.
He Qingqi, puzzled, saw where Zhuo Zhiwei’s gaze had landed and felt cold sweat break out on her back.
She looked up at the cool, detached face before her, her own face scrunching up as she nearly begged. “I really forgot! Weiwei, she hasn’t used QQ in years!”
Zhuo Zhiwei remained unmoved, calmly deleting the contact as He Qingqi watched.
She deleted He Qingqi.
It was like slow motion. He Qingqi’s lips trembled, and she pitifully murmured, “Weiwei…”
Zhuo Zhiwei didn’t wait for her to finish. She tossed the phone aside and casually sat back on the bed, elegantly crossing her legs, cutting her off. “So, what is it you wanted to say?”
He Qingqi paused, stammering for a moment, before awkwardly smiling. “I told my grandmother I’d bring her granddaughter-in-law home.”
There was a dull thud.
A pillow hit He Qingqi square in the face.
Zhuo Zhiwei, flustered and furious, shouted, “He Qingqi! What nonsense are you talking about?!”
…
In the end, Zhuo Zhiwei still got into He Qingqi’s car, though she crossed her arms and sat in the back seat, sulking, refusing to sit beside her.
To be honest, besides feeling shocked and angry, a part of her felt a little sweet at being called such a title, and a little nervous about suddenly meeting the family.
So much for her plans—she’d set the timeline for a year from now. How did it become one month into the relationship?
Zhuo Zhiwei’s mind was in turmoil, and she began to regret her earlier decision. Why had she been so rash and gotten into the car? Was it too late to go back?
Her face alternated between light and shadow.
He Qingqi glanced at her occasionally through the rearview mirror.
“Weiwei…”
No response.
“I was wrong…”
Zhuo Zhiwei fumed even more.
The culprit!
He Qingqi knew her girlfriend was nervous, so she spoke to ease her worries. “My grandmother really likes you, she does. You don’t need to worry. My family listens to her. As long as she approves, no one else will have anything to say.”
They soon arrived at He’s residence.
The entire He family was gathered in the first-floor living room, including the chairman and manager, all waiting in orderly fashion.
When the door opened, all eyes turned to Zhuo Zhiwei and He Qingqi.
Zhuo Zhiwei froze, feeling as though those gazes were burning her, flames licking at her skin. A blush crept up her cheeks, spreading to her ears and even down her neck, painting her in shades of pink.
Still, she tried to maintain a calm facade, returning smiles one by one.
“Woof! Woof! Woof!”
The chairman, for some inexplicable reason, bared his teeth and started barking aggressively.
Zhuo Zhiwei was startled, grabbing onto He Qingqi’s clothes. He Qingqi, too, instinctively stepped in front of her, shielding her from harm.
Zhuo Zhiwei: “…”
She shot a glare at He Qingqi in front of her.
This is what you meant by no objections?
