Running Over The Head Of My Ex [Rebirth]

Chapter 85

Chapter 85

The chairman glared warily at Zhuo Zhiwei, slightly crouching, as if ready to charge forward and engage in a life-or-death battle.

His sharp canine teeth were exposed, and drool continuously dripped onto the floor from his gaping mouth, with one ear half-drooping, all traces of cuteness long gone.

He now looked powerful and ferocious.

“Chairman!” He Qingqi scolded.

She stretched her hand back, and when her fingers brushed against Zhuo Zhiwei’s arm, she breathed a sigh of relief, quickly reassuring her, “Don’t be scared, Weiwei. The chairman’s just a coward—he won’t bite.”

“He’s all bark and no bite.”

The chairman’s sudden outburst startled Grandma He as well. She was already nervous about her granddaughter’s girlfriend coming over, her heart racing with anxiety. She had barely settled her nerves when this little brat gave her such a fright.

No, wait… little mutt.

Grandma He thought, her face expressionless.

Back when He Qingqi was participating in Occasional Time, Grandma had become quite the fan of the “Qingwei” couple. Although their popularity had waned, they still hovered around the top ten in the CP fan rankings.

Now that the ship had sailed, and her granddaughter had finally brought the girl home, only to be scared by this dog.

Someone was going to get it.

No wonder he was called the chairman.

Grandma He shot a fierce glare at He Dongche, who was sitting on the sofa.

He Dongche: “???”

As these thoughts ran through her mind, Grandma He swiftly grabbed the chairman’s tail.

Grabbing a dog’s tail was no small matter. The chairman froze, as if his very fate had been seized, his ears flattened against his head as he whined and quickly retreated.

“Awooo…”

The pitiful sound tugged at the heartstrings, as though someone were butchering a dog right there. All his earlier bluster had evaporated, leaving him utterly defeated.

Manager He glanced around the room, silently taking a few steps back. His father wasn’t exactly the brightest, but he had no intention of following in his footsteps.

Then Grandma He turned to Zhuo Zhiwei with a bright smile, her deeply wrinkled face suddenly softening, like a blooming chrysanthemum.

“Ah, Weiwei, you’re here.”

“Don’t mind the chairman. He just needs a good scolding. He won’t bite.”

Zhuo Zhiwei took a deep breath, blinking slowly, and stammered, “Y-yes, I’m here.”

She clutched He Qingqi’s clothes tightly, her hands trembling slightly, and suddenly realized she hadn’t greeted the family.

“Hello, Grandma!”

“And hello to Grandpa, Uncle, and…”

Her gaze landed on He Qingzhou, hesitating a little.

He Qingzhou smiled softly and nodded. “Just call me Brother Qingzhou.”

“And Brother Qingzhou,” Zhuo Zhiwei added quietly, her face flushing as she lowered her eyes, suddenly shy and unusually bashful.

Although she had visited once before, this time felt entirely different—her status had changed, and so had her emotions.

She was meeting the family!

This was meeting the family!

Zhuo Zhiwei could hear a cacophony of noise in her ears, adrenaline nearly choking her as her heart raced wildly. Her hands tightened their grip, leaving crescent-shaped marks on her palms, and sweat began to form.

Her mind was blank, responding purely on instinct, her face pale.

After a round of questioning, Grandma He couldn’t help but laugh at the sight of Zhuo Zhiwei, who seemed utterly dazed. It felt more like an interrogation than a conversation…

Zhuo Zhiwei, wringing her fingers nervously, could only mimic He Qingqi’s actions, raising the corners of her mouth by 30 degrees. She forced a smile, revealing small teeth, but her smile was stiff and hollow, lacking He Qingqi’s natural, youthful brilliance.

Instead, she looked more like… that viral sloth meme.

Grandma He couldn’t hold back a snort of laughter, quickly covering her mouth and coughing to regain composure, resuming her kindly demeanor. She patted the sofa next to her.

“Oh dear, it’s my fault. I got so excited seeing you, I kept asking questions… Come sit, Weiwei.”

Grandpa He rubbed his nose, looking at his wife with a puzzled expression. Why did she look like some kind of kidnapper trying to lure a pretty girl?

Was she that afraid their granddaughter wouldn’t be able to get a wife?

He Qingqi glanced back at Zhuo Zhiwei, taking her hand in hers. “Shall we go sit?”

Feeling the wetness of her palms, He Qingqi froze momentarily, then a faint smile flickered across her face.

Zhuo Zhiwei nodded, changing into slippers, though her steps were excessively cautious, as if afraid of falling into an abyss with a single misstep.

She and He Qingqi sat together on one side.

Then, Grandma He casually asked, “So, how long have you two been together?”

He Qingqi was about to answer when Zhuo Zhiwei squeezed her hand, her brain short-circuiting, and she blurted out, “Almost six months!”

Wouldn’t that make them seem more thoughtful and serious about their relationship?

The three men of the He family instantly fixed their sharp gazes on He Qingqi, eyes filled with shock and suspicion.

He Qingqi tilted her head slightly, a giant question mark appearing above her head.

Almost six months?

How did she not know?

Feeling the intense scrutiny from her grandfather, father, and brother, she wanted to cry but couldn’t.

I’m innocent! I swear I am!

Grandma He, meanwhile, did some quick calculations and was overjoyed. “So, right around the time Idol Era was filming?”

Given that she had never liked Fang Xuanyao, and no irreversible damage had been done, the entire family had conspired to keep Grandma He in the dark about He Qingqi’s previous entanglements.

Grandma He suddenly slapped Grandpa He’s leg. “Didn’t I say during the show that Qingqi and Weiwei had something going on?”

She turned to Zhuo Zhiwei with a knowing look. “No wonder Xiao Zhang mentioned…”

Grandma He coughed lightly but smiled, leaving the rest unsaid.

Everything was understood.

Grandpa He shot a glance at He Qingqi, his expression unreadable, as he sipped his tea to calm his nerves.

“So, you two have known each other for a while?”

Zhuo Zhiwei gave a small nod. “Yes.”

It wasn’t technically a lie—it just happened in a previous life…

“How did you meet?” Grandma He asked, her interest piqued, her eyes glowing.

Zhuo Zhiwei discreetly pinched He Qingqi.

He Qingqi snapped back to reality, forcing a smile as she searched her memories before she turned 19. “Didn’t I work with Uncle Zhao on that film? I visited Weiwei’s school.”

Grandma He nodded in understanding. “And how did you end up together?”

“After… the Tang Yiming incident.”

“Oh…” Grandma He dragged out the syllable, nodding knowingly.

He Qingqi wiped the non-existent sweat from her forehead, not needing to look back to know her father, grandfather, and brother were glaring at her even colder than before.

She discreetly glanced at Zhuo Zhiwei.

Weiwei, you’re killing me here.

As compensation, I’ll kiss you extra tonight.

He Qingqi smirked like a fox that had just caught its prey. Her eyes flickered with hunger as she recalled the scene at the hotel, licking her lips in anticipation.

Grandma He chatted with Zhuo Zhiwei a little longer, and when it was nearing 10 o’clock, He Qingqi tactfully yawned.

And so, the first meeting with the family came to an end.

Zhuo Zhiwei once again stayed in the room next to He Qingqi’s, lying in bed with her heart racing, waiting in vain for that mischievous little thief to sneak in during the night. Drowsiness eventually overcame her, and she drifted off to sleep.

Little did she know, downstairs, He Qingqi was being interrogated by three family members. It took quite the effort to explain everything clearly.

In the dimly lit hallway, He Qingqi’s shadow stretched long as she dragged her exhausted body upstairs. She knocked lightly on Zhuo Zhiwei’s door but got no response.

She tested the door—it wasn’t locked.

He Qingqi quietly slipped inside. The curtains were open, and the moonlight filled the room. She saw Zhuo Zhiwei’s usual cold expression completely relaxed in peaceful slumber, and couldn’t help but smile.

Her heart softened, as if it had melted into a calm lake under the serene night, gentle ripples spreading out.

He Qingqi leaned against the wall, her head tilted as she gazed tenderly at her.

In the end, she couldn’t resist stepping forward, kneeling beside the bed, brushing Zhuo Zhiwei’s hair aside, and planting a soft kiss on her forehead.

In her sleep, Zhuo Zhiwei furrowed her brows slightly, murmuring as her head shifted, seemingly displeased with the uninvited guest’s interruption.

He Qingqi stifled a laugh at her cute reaction, watching her in the moonlight for a while longer, her fingers playing with Zhuo Zhiwei’s dark hair strewn across the bed.

Her girlfriend had changed her hair color, and she still looked as stunning as ever.

With a soft sigh of contentment, He Qingqi felt a weight lift from her shoulders, her expression finally relaxed. She hadn’t forgotten Zhuo Zhiwei’s words, “I want a girlfriend.”

“Goodnight, girlfriend,” she chuckled softly.

Zhuo Zhiwei’s room remained locked for the rest of the night, while the neighboring room remained cold and empty, pitifully unused.

He Qingqi found a spot beside Zhuo Zhiwei, carefully slipping under the covers, mindful not to wake her. But halfway through the night, she was pulled into a tight embrace.

Which is why she woke up the next morning, drenched in warmth.

Lin Fan had been with He Qingqi long enough to pick up on the unspoken tension between the two, noticing the unusual intimacy that flowed between them. When he saw Zhuo Zhiwei, he was only surprised for a second before returning to his usual calm.

They waited for a while at their destination before the other members of Wonders arrived.

Tao Jinghan, upon seeing the two of them, looked utterly betrayed.

Last night, while she had been in the living room, the sounds inside had suddenly stopped, followed by a loud creak of the bed… The water suddenly didn’t taste good, and the TV was unbearable to watch.

Tao Jinghan wasn’t stupid; she could easily tell what was happening in the bedroom. Her ears burned as she paced around the living room, then, in a moment of panic, she knocked on Jin Zhiyang’s door.

The blushing, stuttering girl, with her heated gaze, made you want to keep talking to her.

But when she returned, they were gone.

It was bad enough they didn’t tell her they were together, but they didn’t even tell her they were leaving!

Tao Jinghan lay in bed, clutching her blanket, staring at the ceiling, unable to sleep.

What had the dog done to deserve such treatment?

Little did she know, a dog far away at the He residence had inadvertently avenged her.

Tao Jinghan glanced at He Qingqi, then fixed her gaze on Zhuo Zhiwei.

Her intense stare made Zhuo Zhiwei’s scalp tingle, and she instinctively moved closer to He Qingqi.

Tao Jinghan, feeling as though her heart had been pierced by a thousand arrows, clutched her chest, looking pained. She wore the expression of a scorned wife, gazing at Zhuo Zhiwei with such sorrowful longing that it seemed she had been abandoned.

Before Zhuo Zhiwei could say anything, He Qingqi, not one to let it slide, stepped in protectively in front of her girlfriend, lifting her chin arrogantly. “What are you staring at?”

Tao Jinghan’s face was filled with resentment. “Why?! Zhiwei!”

She took deep breaths, like an actor about to deliver a dramatic monologue, and pointed at He Qingqi with disbelief on her face. “Why her?”

“I was the one who met you first!”

“Did you forget? Who was it that supported you in that strange environment? Who stayed with you through restless nights?”

“What does she have that I don’t?” Tao Jinghan looked He Qingqi up and down, her gaze finally settling on her well-toned, perky backside.

She discreetly touched her own, feeling like her pride had been trampled on.

With a look of utter devastation, she cried, “Is it because her butt is perkier?”

Zhuo Zhiwei: “…”

He Qingqi: “…” I’ll just smile and not say a word.
