Chapter 1712 - 1789: Not His Biological Son
Chapter 1712: Chapter 1789: Not His Biological Son
Anyway, whenever the father and son couldn’t convince each other, they’d go into a cold war. Once it dragged on, the father, being forgetful and quick-tempered, would cool down fast, and after a while he’d just forget all about it on his own.
"You stop right there for your old man! Did your old man say you could leave?" Shen Feihu felt this brat had been completely spoiled by him. He’d always laughed at Meng Xingzhi for having a Meng Ping, saying it was a headache.
Now he felt he was pretty damn stressed himself. His son wasn’t young anymore, yet still refused to date, refused to get married. Just thinking about it pissed him off.
And the kid hardly ever came home. As a father, it wasn’t easy to even see him once. If it wasn’t for this mission coinciding, as his old man he probably would’ve had to make an appointment just to see his own son.
Fine! In truth he was just seizing on this as an excuse, picking a fight to vent a bit.
The people under Shen Jianguo couldn’t listen anymore. In a low voice someone said, "Chairman Shen, you’re an elder and our leader, but you still can’t call yourself ’old man’ like that. It’s too disrespectful."
As soon as he finished, the assistant standing behind Shen Feihu, Xiao Tao, couldn’t hold back a laugh.
"What? What’re you laughing at?" Had he said something wrong?
The others all had blank looks on their faces, completely lost.
Shen Jianguo couldn’t help laughing either. He cleared his throat and said, "Chairman, our mission is complete. President Xu is already on the other side of the river. According to the agreed time, he’ll be coming over soon, so I really do have to head back. As for the process you want to know about, I’ll write a detailed report once we’re back."
After he finished, he added, "President Xu’s mission went very smoothly. We only played a supporting role, which is why we returned early."
"Then..." Shen Feihu hesitated for a moment. Hearing his son say that actually made him happy. He hadn’t been expecting Shen Jianguo to earn any merit; as long as the kid came back in one piece, that was enough.
"Then get the hell out of here for your old man!" Shen Feihu waved his hand, looking extremely impatient.
Shen Jianguo didn’t take it to heart at all and straightforwardly led his men away. From Heihe to the Northern District they still had to cross a vast stretch of Primordial Forest; even at forced march it would take a full day and night. Only once they exited the Primordial Forest would vehicles come to pick them up.
He’d heard before that Xu Qigang and Chen Yingjie were insanely fast on forced marches, but he had no idea just how fast. After the group left, everyone started grumbling under their breath, clearly unhappy.
"This Chairman Shen is even harder to get along with than the rumors say."
"I heard he’s the most hot-tempered chairman in the Northern District; everyone has to give way to him."
"His personality’s way too domineering. I’ve seen plenty of leaders who like to curse people out, but someone like him who keeps calling himself ’old man’ like he really is everybody’s old man is just over the line."
Everyone felt indignant on Shen Jianguo’s behalf. They’d long heard that Captain Shen had a good temper; they hadn’t expected it to be this good.
Shen Jianguo coughed awkwardly and said, "You really don’t know?"
"Know what?" Everyone was baffled.
The radio operator who hadn’t spoken all along was an old hand and knew Shen Jianguo’s identity. Earlier, when he saw Chairman Shen cursing people out, he’d been secretly amused. Now, hearing Captain Shen speak, he finally couldn’t help reminding them: "Our captain and Chairman Shen both have the surname Shen—none of you thought of anything?"
"Huh?"
"You two are relatives?"
The radio operator rolled his eyes at them. This bunch of blockheads was really too dim. "He’s his old man. Chairman Shen is our captain’s father—his biological father."
"Really? How come they don’t seem like it at all?"
