Shut Up, Malevolent Dragon! I Don’t Want to Have Any More Children With You

Vol 9. Chapter 27: Through Hell, Reborn

Vol 9. Chapter 27: Through Hell, Reborn

On the way back, Leon did not really dare to egg the eldest sister on.

If he teased his wife and Orion, that was just banter between close friends. And his wife was tongue-tied and would not talk back. But if he teased the eldest sister, Leon had to think carefully about how Isha would strike back afterward.

After all, over so many years, the two of them had been counter-killed by Isha more times than they could count.

"Then for now, let’s leave it at that. If anything comes up, use a Message Dragon to contact me."

"Okay, sis. Be careful on the way back."

"Mm. You too, Rosvisser, and brother-in-law."

"Safe travels, sis."

Isha beat her wings and flew off in another direction.

Watching the dragon silhouette recede into the distance, Leon sat, arms folded over his chest.

"What do you think—can the eldest sister and Kaiser actually make it in the end?"

"Not sure. My sister’s thoughts are complicated, especially when it comes to feelings. And she’s been hurt once before, so... yeah."

Hard to say.

The time Rosvisser talked about her having been hurt once referred to the traitor back before Isha’s ascension.

But that ingrate had already been exiled from the Red Flame Dragon Clan. In this lifetime, he would never see Isha again.

Leon shrugged.

"Let the two of them deal with their own business slowly."

"Mm-hm."

Rosvisser felt that it was best not to meddle too much in other people’s affairs—especially something involving feelings like this.

As long as she showed a little presence at the two key moments—before the relationship was confirmed and when it was confirmed—that was enough.

As for how things developed in between, that was entirely up to them.

"Then are we going home now?" Rosvisser asked.

Leon thought for a moment. He did not answer, and instead asked:

"Do you have any urgent work you need to handle?"

Rosvisser considered it, then said:

"No. Anna will manage things for me while I’m away these few days.

None of it is anything urgent. Why?"

"Then let’s make a trip to the Golden Thunder Clan first. About the Thunder Sanctuary and the God of Wisdom—I think my mom will know something."

"Okay."

The silver dragon beat her wings.

In an instant, a sonic boom exploded. The massive body turned into an afterimage and shot toward the distance.

...

...

In the Golden Thunder Clan territory, Leon and his wife still kept a low profile.

As the son and daughter-in-law of the clan’s priest, the two of them would draw plenty of attention if they swaggered down the street.

But they had not come to visit casually this time. They had serious business, coming to ask Hera about something.

So they kept as discreet as possible, to avoid unnecessary trouble.

They arrived at Hera’s residence. Leon lifted his hand and knocked.

The door opened quickly.

Because the Golden Thunder Clan had not notified Hera in advance these past few years, when she saw her big son and his beautiful daughter-in-law, Hera was stunned for a moment.

"Leon, Rosvisser—why are you here?"

Hera opened the door fully and let the three of them inside.

"Come in, sit."

The couple walked into the room one after the other. After Hera closed the door, she followed them in.

"It’s been so long, you two," Hera said. It was obvious she could not hold back her joy and excitement. She immediately set out the tea things, put water on to boil, and called them over to sit.

"Why didn’t you tell me you were coming? I could have prepared."

While rinsing the tea set, Hera said:

"Look at me—I didn’t even have time to make anything tasty. Just some clan specialty tea leaves. Make do and drink a little."

It seems no matter what race she belongs to, once a woman becomes a mother, after being separated from her dear big son for a long time and then suddenly reuniting with him, she’ll be so happy she won’t know what to do with her hands.

Leon hurriedly said:

"It’s fine, it’s fine, Mom. Sit down first. Don’t busy yourself."

Hera wiped the water off her hands and sat down at the tea table across from them.

"Okay."

As she spoke, she glanced at Leon and then at Rosvisser, and smiled.

"Rosvisser, you’ve gotten prettier again."

Rosvisser nodded obediently and smoothed the hair by her ear, looking a little embarrassed as she replied, "No, not really, ma’am."

Leon looked Rosvisser over from the corner of his eye.

It was rare to see this dragon woman blush from praise that did not come from him.

Looks like even the proudest queen had to turn into a well-behaved girl when meeting the family.

"Long time no see. Good to see you. We’ll see each other more from now on!"

Meanwhile, Hera’s gaze fell on Rosvisser’s left hand as she adjusted her hair.

More precisely, her fingers.

The beautiful woman seemed to notice something, but she did not say anything. She only looked back at Leon and asked,

"You came to visit so suddenly—you must have run into something you can’t figure out, right?"

"If the Sea Dragon Princess Claudia can be called a ‘walking modern encyclopedia of Samael,’ then Hera is an ‘ancient encyclopedia.’"

For some fields Claudia had not touched, coming to Hera for answers often brought unexpected gains.

The earlier report about the Blazing Sun mystery, and the comprehension of five-element magic—Leon had also sorted those out here with Hera.

Leon scratched his head, a little embarrassed.

"To be honest, Mom... it really is."

Hera gave a snort-laugh and put on a mock displeased tone.

"I knew it. You brat never comes without a reason. You don’t come to see me normally. You only remember me when trouble knocks at your door."

"What do you mean, Mom? Don’t I write you often and send you things?"

"No matter how much you send me, it’s not as good as coming to see me once."

"But I’m busy. Most of the time I have to take care of the kids at home, and sometimes I even have to save the world and stuff."

"Then what’s more important—the world, or your mom?"

"Uh..."

Rosvisser sat at the tea table with her head lowered, smiling bitterly as she listened to the mother and son go back and forth.

The mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationship was genuinely good. The mother-son relationship... hard to say.

But in the Melkvey household—a family that was, to put it mildly, a little abstract—nothing that happened was really strange.

After trading a few jokes with Hera, Leon quickly moved to the main topic.

"Say it. What is it this time?"

Leon grew serious and nodded.

"Mom, do you know a place called the ‘Spirit Hall’?"

At the sound of that term, Hera’s expression stiffened noticeably. A trace of shock flashed through her pale blue eyes.

But those emotions vanished in an instant. She nodded.

"I know."

"Then can you tell me in detail about the Frost Spirit Hall?"

As she spoke, the water came to a boil.

Hera picked up the kettle, removed the lid, and let the water cool down to around seventy degrees—the best temperature for steeping tea.

Her eyes lowered as she watched the steam rise from the spout, and she said leisurely:

"In the ancient books left behind by Forebear Zeus, there is mention of the Frost Spirit Hall. It’s said to be a distant realm built jointly by the gods—a realm of the dead. According to the text, no living thing can set foot there, unless... guided by death. But what, exactly, the Frost Spirit Hall is used for, the books do not record. I have no way of knowing."

Leon frowned slightly, thought for a moment, and said:

"Two friends told me they’ve been to the Frost Spirit Hall. And that only someone who has passed through the Frost Spirit Hall can truly inherit a god’s power."

"Is that really a thing?"

Hera shook her head slightly.

"I’ve never heard that."

After a pause, Hera looked at Leon in surprise.

"Wait. You mean you have yet another friend who inherited a god’s power?"

In his mother’s understanding, having a granddaughter who could replicate a god’s power through a bug-level exploit was already unbelievable.

And now her big son had another friend who inherited a god’s power...

...

"No, son. Your connections are this ridiculous, and you won’t introduce any of them to your mother’s clan? So my Golden Thunder Clan can flourish again, revive our old glory, and all that—"

Leon rubbed at his forehead.

"A few days ago the sun was about to go out. My friend put on a helmet and relit it. Then she inherited Apollo’s power."

At the side, Rosvisser pressed her fingers to her brow and could not help complaining:

"Why does something so magnificent and glorious sound, coming out of your mouth, like... like you ate three steaks and two eggs for dinner—casual and sloppy?"

Leon said:

"Because last night I really did eat three steaks and two fried eggs."

Rosvisser said:

"You treat yourself that well, so why not add some carrots and eggplant as sides?"

The queen snorted with a laugh and nudged his shoulder.

Then she pursed her lips at him, signaling for him to talk properly with Hera.

Leon also put away his playfulness and looked back at Hera.

"About Apollo, I’ll write you a letter later and explain in detail. But for now, Mom, let’s talk about the Frost Spirit Hall."

Hera watched the couple’s banter back and forth, and she could not help smiling like an indulgent aunt.

But the important thing was still the business.

"If it’s true that only those who return from the Frost Spirit Hall can completely inherit a god’s power, then that means the Zeus power you hold right now is incomplete."

Hera said slowly:

"But the problem goes beyond that. The Frost Spirit Hall has never been a realm the living can enter. Only the dead can reach it. Which means... the prerequisite for inheriting a god’s power in full is to have the ability to return from death. This is far more than simply coming back from the edge of death, Leon. It is to cross beyond death, to pass through hell, and in the end... be reborn."
