Vol 9. Chapter 37: Needle in the Sea
Vol 9. Chapter 37: Needle in the Sea
The seven-colored light slammed into the Demon Eye in full.
That soul-deep, searing pain made it howl without end.
“Pfft...”
The Demon Eye dropped to its knees, crossing its arms over its chest, its entire body trembling uncontrollably.
“B-but... what is this... what kind of move is this...”
At the same time, a tall, graceful figure walked forward from behind the Demon Eye at an unhurried pace.
She brushed past the kneeling Demon Eye without even looking at it, eyes fixed ahead as she walked toward Leon and the others.
“Soul Verdict. A kind of magic that can strike straight at an evil soul like yours.”
Rosvisser walked slowly to Leon’s side, then turned around little by little and looked at the Demon Eye with calm eyes.
“It won’t harm Poseidon by even the slightest bit, but for you, it’s like being in hell. So, are you going to leave this body as quickly as possible... ...or do you want to see how long you can hold out?”
Just as Rosvisser said, Soul Verdict only harmed things that carried extremely intense negative emotions.
The more negative emotions there were, the deeper the infestation.
And while cases like “being possessed by the Demon Eye and having a body taken over” were relatively rare, the principle was still the same principle.
With that, the Demon Eye’s disguise from yesterday was completely shattered.
It had thought that if it held Poseidon’s body hostage, it could drag things out with this group of Samael people a little longer, then find a chance to slip away.
It never expected that these people had kept a trump card in reserve.
That bone-searing pain tortured the Demon Eye every second. It could clearly feel that it was about to collapse.
“If I drag it out... if I drag it out, I’m afraid I’ll be taken down by these few people before I even find a suitable body.”
The Demon Eye’s gaze swept over the four people in front of it, and finally locked onto Leon—the one whose instincts were sharp enough to catch it the moment it made the slightest move.
“Tch... as long as the green hills remain, there will be no worry about firewood. Leon Casmod, just you wait!”
With a strange shriek, Poseidon’s body erupted with a ghostly purple aura.
Then, a third eye slowly opened in the middle of his forehead.
It was laced with bloodshot veins, grotesque and terrifying.
Leon recognized it at a glance.
“That’s the Demon Eye from Atos’s Demon Sword!”
As soon as the words fell, the Demon Eye was finally forced by Rosvisser’s Soul Verdict to detach from Poseidon’s body.
At the instant it left, the Raging Sea Prison that sealed the island’s surroundings was released on the spot.
The Demon Eye flew out of Poseidon’s body and dropped onto the sand.
Leon reacted instantly, gathering lightning and charging in with a Thousand-Bird Thrust.
“Don’t you run!”
But the Demon Eye was like a nimble loach. It drilled under the sand and shot straight toward the sea.
Seeing that, Rosvisser, Tiger, and Claudia all rushed up to help.
Claudia tried to rebuild a Raging Sea Prison wall again, but the Demon Eye’s speed and flexibility exceeded her expectations.
Before her magic circle could even form, the Demon Eye, under the sand’s cover, flowed into the sea.
Leon stood at the water’s edge and hurled several bolts of lightning.
The lightning blasted the sea surface into wave after wave of spray—but there was no sign of the Demon Eye at all.
“Damn it. It slipped away that fast!”
Tiger caught up, unwilling, and kicked the sand underfoot.
Leon, meanwhile, stared silently at the boundless sea, clenching his fist.
“Trying to find an eye in this vast ocean is really... like searching for a needle in the sea.”
Rosvisser shrugged helplessly.
Leon forced down the frustration boiling in his chest and sighed.
“Look on the bright side. At least an eye is bigger than a needle, so... He’s forcing himself to laugh through it,” Rosvisser said, smiling bitterly as she shook her head.
“That’s probably the fourth reason it chose this timing to move against the Sea Dragon Clan.”
Behind them, Claudia supported the weakened Poseidon as she spoke.
“Even if its initial plan failed and we chased it down, it could still flee into the sea and leave us with nowhere to search.”
Leon pulled his gaze back from the sea, turned, and walked toward the shore.
“It’s not like we gained nothing. At the very least, we’ve figured out the Demon Eye’s operational logic. That means we can predict what it wants to do next and prepare defenses in advance.”
Claudia opened her mouth, about to add something on top of Leon’s words—but before she could speak, Poseidon beside her began coughing violently.
“Cough, cough—cough, cough...”
Two strands of black vapor sprayed from Poseidon’s mouth. His face drooped onto Claudia’s shoulder, and for a moment his expression couldn’t be seen clearly.
“Father, Father, how do you feel?” Claudia asked in a rush.
Poseidon’s eyes were unfocused. After he confirmed that the one supporting him was his daughter, he finally closed his eyes as if a burden had lifted.
“It feels... like I just had a nightmare. A... especially terrifying nightmare.”
...
Sea Dragon Sanctuary, recovery room.
On an ice bed, Poseidon lay there calmly, eyes closed, breathing even.
After treatment from Claudia and Charlotte, his condition had gradually stabilized.
“Luckily, the Demon Eye didn’t go after Father’s organs and body the way it absorbed those plants.”
Charlotte let out a long breath, still shaken, and patted her chest.
“Right now Father just overexerted his strength. After resting for a while, he’ll be fine.”
Sitting beside the bed, she still looked worriedly at Poseidon, who had yet to wake.
Tiger stood beside Charlotte, silently keeping his granddaughter company.
Poseidon had been treated by Claudia personally, so she understood her father’s state clearly.
After one last look at her father, Claudia stepped out of the recovery room.
Outside, Leon and Rosvisser had been waiting for a long time.
“Senior, how is it?” Leon asked.
“It’s stable.”
Claudia closed the stone door to the recovery room, then continued.
“He can wake up at any time.”
Then Claudia looked at Rosvisser.
“Thank you, Rosvisser. If it weren’t for you this time, my father might really have met with disaster.”
“It’s nothing, Senior. You’ve taken care of us so much—of course we should help when it’s time.”
The queen dipped her head, her tone humble.
“And Soul Verdict was taught to me by you back then. How could I stand by and do nothing?”
Claudia showed a tired smile. She crossed her arms, leaned back, and rested against the wall.
She exhaled deeply, raised her head, and looked at the corridor ceiling as she said quietly:
“Even though we have no idea where that Demon Eye went, it feels like a thorn stuck in the hand. It doesn’t hurt, it doesn’t itch, but it’s hard to bear.”
After a brief silence, Leon answered:
“I think after that fight, that thing won’t make any major moves in the short term. On our side, we have Soul Verdict to target its possession ability. And it’s not just my wife who knows it—so does Isha. That guarantees the Demon Eye won’t dare act recklessly. Second, even if it wants to secretly grow, it basically won’t be able to. Any action it takes will cause very obvious effects on the nearby environment. So as long as we keep a close watch on environmental changes, we won’t be afraid we can’t find it.”
Claudia listened carefully to Leon’s reasoning and felt it made a lot of sense.
“Fine. Then for now we hold position and respond as it comes.”
As they were talking, the stone door of the recovery room opened again.
Tiger stepped into the doorway, looked at the three of them, and said in a low voice:
“Poseidon is awake.”
