Side Character Transmigrations: The Final Boss is No Joke

Chapter 835: Scam Artists are Not Cute! (3)

Shi Sheng left the police station and started walking back home, lost in thought.

Shi Sheng thought Bu Meng’s ability could be classified as a type of sirenic power[1], but she had no idea what kind of people she could affect. Shi Sheng decided to go try it out.

It was already past nine in the morning when she found a bustling plaza and covertly found a spot to crouch down. If she saw anyone that wasn’t pleasing to the eye, she cheerfully tossed curses at them.

The fruits of her efforts saw countless people tripping, falling, losing their wallets, even getting beaten up…

Her power didn’t work indiscriminately, however. On those Shi Sheng had identified as shady-looking, she practically had a 100% success rate. But on anyone who looked kind-hearted, or on children, it barely worked.

Out of everyone Shi Sheng had been running this little experiment on, it was the children that proved the least successful; surprisingly, it worked on some of those who appeared to be good people. After testing out her theories for what seemed like forever, Shi Sheng came to a conclusion: this thing only worked on bad people and was useless against good ones–it was basically like a divine instrument of justice.

Shi Sheng went back to conduct blessing tests on those previously unsuccessful individuals, with positive results. It seemed that anyone with any impure thoughts could not be blessed by this power–what an amazing con!

She had such great skills yet she didn’t know how to use them properly–too stupid! Having finished her experiments, Shi Sheng stood and prepared to leave. Suddenly, she was hit by a sudden wave of dizziness and fell into a nearby pond with a splash.

‘Where’s my knight in shining armor? Why am I(lz) so unlucky? *flips table*’

Having heard the commotion, the people in the square turned their attention towards her one by one, and some even came over to help pull Shi Sheng out of the water. Her entire body was in a state of refusal, however. Her head was aching, her eyelids were heavy, and she was very! Sleepy!

Seeing that her current state of affairs were quite poor, some people suggested sending her to the hospital; however, most bystanders simply watched indifferently.

In the end, Shi Sheng was reluctantly taken to the hospital. The person who brought her was none other than one of the people Shi Sheng had successfully blessed earlier. She was a middle-aged woman, and she even waited patiently for Shi Sheng to regain consciousness.

“I’ve already called your uncle, and he’ll be here soon,” said the middle-aged woman, her voice gentle and soothing, as she observed Shi Sheng alertly scanning her surroundings. “You’re so young, how could you be so overworked? Take good care of yourself; don’t think that youth gives you permission to drain your own body.”

Overworked? Shi Sheng rubbed her forehead in consternation. ‘It was probably because I used too much power.’

It appeared there were limitations to her ability.

The uncle that the kind stranger had called was Yu Sheng–the agent who took care of the original host. Yu Sheng arrived swiftly, with an ordinary appearance, yet possessing a long life line on his palm that suggested he had not committed any misdeeds. Shi Sheng, naturally, had no skill in palm-reading, but such details were ingrained in the memories of the original host.

Yu Sheng thanked the middle-aged woman and settled the medical expenses she had helped cover before personally seeing her off. “Why aren’t you at school?” Yu Sheng asked concernedly despite the fatigue evident in his brows. “Is it because you’ve been studying too hard lately?”

Shi Sheng shook her head–she had done this to herself.

Yu Sheng was accustomed to the original owner’s silence so he fell silent as well. He simply offered a few careful instructions, reassured her that the doctor found nothing serious, and then busied himself with his phone as several calls came through one after another.

After answering several calls, seemingly about an urgent matter, Yu Sheng turned towards Shi Sheng and said, “Rest well. Uncle has arranged for a nurse. If you need anything, communicate with the nurse. Uncle will come to see you later.”

Shi Sheng nodded obediently.

Yu Sheng felt a bit uneasy, but the incessant ringing of his phone compelled him to leave.

Shi Sheng’s physical condition was not serious, but she had exhausted herself excessively. She spent a full three days lying in the hospital before her energy gradually improved.

Upon her discharge, Yu Sheng sent her a text message, expressing his intention to pick her up. However, Shi Sheng directly declined.

Yu Sheng was probably truly busy, as he didn’t fight Shi Sheng’s refusal to be picked up and ceased all communication after ensuring her safe return home.

Yu Sheng had several artists under his command, and sometimes he would get so busy that one could go an entire month without catching a glimpse of him.

As Shi Sheng left the hospital, preparing to take a taxi home, she reached into her pocket and realized that she could only afford to take the bus.

The original host had been taken away without anything, left with only five yuan stuffed in her pocket at some unknown time.

Well, she had no other choice then.

Shi Sheng looked at the signboard and boarded one of the buses. It wasn’t rush hour, so there weren’t many people aboard. Shi Sheng found a seat and sat down.

The bus moved slowly and stopped frequently. The once empty bus soon became overcrowded, people packed tightly together like sardines.

Just as Shi Sheng was approaching her stop, a sudden argument erupted up ahead.

Someone screamed, frantically shouting that there was a murderer on board. The bus screeched to an emergency halt, the piercing sound of brakes echoing through the entire lane and causing chaos as everyone on the bus shifted forward.

Shi Sheng braced herself, trying to maintain her balance. With so many people in front of her, she couldn’t see what was happening.

Faint screams mixed with the cries of children, accompanied by disgruntled complaints, to create a cacophony of noise.

Shi Sheng stood up on her seat and peered ahead. A masked man was holding a seven or eight-year-old child hostage, while a woman lay on the floor beside him, blood seeping from her abdomen.

Shi Sheng: “…”

‘What kind of nightmare is unfolding?’

The passengers in the carriage dared not approach the man, instead retreating and frantically attempting to appease his emotions.

However, their efforts proved ineffective.

“Step back, all of you, or I’ll kill her!” The man tightly choked the child, whose face had turned blue.

His other hand held a dagger, pointing it at the people around him.

The crowd dared not provoke the man and could only retreat.

“Child…” The woman on the ground, still alive, weakly reached out her hand to pull the little girl, her eyes pleading as she looked at the people around her. “Save my child, save my little girl…”

“Open the door and let them get off!” the man shouted angrily at the driver, ignoring the woman’s pleas.

The driver was so frightened that he trembled as he pressed the door button, struggling to open it.

As the door opened, the passengers inside the bus rushed out one after another.

Who would want to stay in a vehicle with a murderer?

Shi Sheng was seated at the back, so she had to wait until most of the people had disembarked before sluggishly getting up.

“Hurry up!” The man barked, his voice hoarse and trembling slightly, though it was unclear whether out of fear or urgency.

As Shi Sheng approached the door, she saw that the woman lying on the ground, was the same woman who had accompanied her to the hospital a few days ago.

Her intended steps to exit halted, freezing at the doorway.

“What are you doing? Get out!” The man exerted even more pressure and the child’s face started to turn crimson.

“Why hasn’t she come down yet?”

“Aren’t young girls these days so brave? Come down quickly, he’s a murderer…”

“Did you call the police? Have you called the police?”

“Oh, that child is not doing well…”

People outside the bus stood far away, discussing the chaotic scene.

Shi Sheng smiled faintly, parting her pale pink lips, “Go to hell.”

The veins on the man’s forehead bulged, “What did you say?”

Shi Sheng repeated herself, clearly enunciating each word, “I said, go to hell.”

Just as the man was about to respond, a shadow suddenly came rushing towards them from a distance. The anger in his eyes turned into fear, and instinctively, he released the child and ran towards the edge of the bus.

Bang!

The scene fell into an eerie silence, as if the entire space had frozen.
