Chapter 872: Infinite Deathmatch (5)
Chapter 872: Infinite Deathmatch (5)
As soon as Shi Sheng finished showing off, she looked down and saw a dense swarm of dark elves surging upward.
These creatures were much harder to deal with than zombies. They ran incredibly fast, and there were so many of them that even if her hand wasn’t useless, she couldn’t possibly cut them all down!
While the man was still dumbstruck, Shi Sheng had already dashed away, disappearing around the corner in the blink of an eye.
Man: “…” ‘Where’s the cool and flashy attitude from earlier?’
He didn’t dare to delay; the man quickly scooped up the girl and followed Shi Sheng upstairs.
This building seemed to be an old office building, littered with debris everywhere. By the time the man caught up, Shi Sheng’s figure was nowhere to be seen. He gritted his teeth and slipped into a room with an intact door, carrying the girl.
After placing the girl down, he immediately barricaded the door with whatever he could find.
The commotion outside grew louder, and dark elves began scratching at the door. They managed to tear a hole in it and even peeked inside through the cracks.
Pressed against the wall, the man didn’t move a muscle, breathing as quietly as possible for fear the dark elves might break in.
The dark elves outside watched for a while. Seemingly failing to detect any food, they gradually withdrew to chase the noise upstairs.
The man let out a sigh of relief.
Bang!
Suddenly, the door was kicked open, and a dark elf appeared in the doorway.
The man’s breath caught in his throat.
Just as the man thought he was doomed, that ear-piercing screeching sound erupted again from upstairs. The dark elf turned its head to listen, then after a few seconds, abandoned him and ran away.
Cold sweat drenched the man’s back. ‘So close…’
There was silence outside, save for the cacophony of dark elf screeches upstairs. The deafening chorus made his eardrums throb.
The sound persisted for a long time before fading. When silence returned, the man waited a while longer before slowly moving to the door.
Peeking outside, he saw the chaos had only intensified, but there were no dark elves in sight.
He planned to carry the girl downstairs to escape, as the creatures had all gone up.
But as he reached the stairs, he changed his mind, heading upstairs instead.
The upper floors were eerily silent. Cautiously, he climbed up, and by the third floor, he began to see dark elf corpses.
A dense, sprawling mass of them.
By the fourth floor, the corpses were even denser, and amid the pile, he saw the young girl from before sitting on a mountain of dark elf bodies, with some crystals piled at her feet.
Can you imagine a young girl sitting in a heap of corpses?
There were only two words to describe it.
Creepy.
She was feeding the crystals into a black card. As soon as the crystals touched the card, they turned to dust, but the man noticed that the card was becoming darker.
The black cards they initially received were a light black, almost gray. With each upgrade, the card’s color deepened.
But the usual upgrade method was based on the number of worlds entered and points accumulated.
What she was doing now…
He had never seen this method before.
Shi Sheng fed a bunch of crystals to the black card, but it couldn’t upgrade past LV6.
She tried other black cards, but they all capped at LV6.
It made sense. If everyone could reach max level in one world, how would future worlds be playable?
[Congratulations, Player Yu Xia, for reaching LV6]
A semi-transparent popup appeared before Shi Sheng, emerging from the black card in her hand.
‘Amazing, high-tech!’
[Kill Yu Xia to gain two instant promotions and 20,000 points]
Right after the congratulatory message, another message popped up.
Shi Sheng: “…” *flips table* ‘Why does killing me grant an instant upgrade?’
“Upgrading too fast will lead to being eradicated,” a voice explained from afar.
Shi Sheng looked up to see the man holding the little girl, standing on the staircase with a black card in his hand. A semi-transparent popup was vaguely visible.
‘WTF, WTF!!!’
‘Server-wide announcement?’
The man’s name was Pei Jin, and the little girl was called Miaomiao.
This world was Pei Jin’s fourth, giving him more seniority than the original host.
Pei Jin explained to Shi Sheng that if a high-level black card holder appeared in a world, a global bounty mission would be issued.
Moreover, everyone’s black cards would be able to locate her within a hundred-mile radius.
He had seen someone get such a bounty in his third world. That person’s fate was very tragic.
“If killing me grants an instant upgrade, why don’t you kill me?” Shi Sheng propped her chin on her hand and looked at the man opposite her.
The man smiled wryly. “You can kill so many dark elves. How could I be your match?”
The most formidable person he had seen killed ten dark elves, but this girl had wiped out an entire horde. He would be insane to try and kill her.
Shi Sheng chuckled and resumed fiddling with her black cards, determined to feed all of them to level six.
“How did you discover that these crystals could upgrade black cards?” Pei Jin asked tentatively.
“Bored,” Shi Sheng answered while feeding the crystals.
In games like these, the items that appeared might not be useful, but they might not be useless either.
You had to try everything to find out…
Bang!
The black card in Shi Sheng’s hand suddenly exploded. The blast wasn’t very powerful, but it covered her face in black soot.
…to find out what surprises there might be?
Shi Sheng: (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
‘What kind of surprise is this! It just exploded out of nowhere; almost scared me(bbb) to death!’
Shi Sheng wiped her face, shook off the dust from her hand, and noticed the black card and crystals were gone.
Pei Jin was equally bewildered, not understanding why it had exploded.
But then he witnessed Shi Sheng’s repeated live explosions as she continued experimenting.
After blowing up five or six black cards, Shi Sheng gave up.
She had ten level six black cards. It seemed the game rules of this world only allowed her to have ten.
Shi Sheng’s eyes flickered as she looked at Pei Jin, gathering up the crystals by her feet and stepping off the pile of dark elf corpses to walk toward him.
Pei Jin felt nervous. “You… What do you want?”
“I’m not gonna kill you.” Shi Sheng tossed the crystals at Pei Jin’s feet. “Go ahead and upgrade.”
Pei Jin: “…”
He didn’t want to be hunted by everyone in the world.
But the girl in front of him looked like she would kill him if he didn’t upgrade.
The higher the black card level, the better the skills—increased usage time, reduced cooldowns.
Others fought tooth and nail to be able to upgrade, but here she was, aimlessly forcing others to upgrade.
Pei Jin, fearing Shi Sheng would act on her threat, reluctantly took the crystals and followed her method to upgrade. He was originally level four, so he quickly reached level five.
As he hesitated about continuing, several black cards suddenly dropped in front of him. “Upgrade all to level five.”
Pei Jin: “…” ‘Exactly how many black cards does she have? Does she buy them in bulk?’
‘When did black cards become so common?’
Pei Jin felt his worldview was severely challenged.
