Chapter 873: Infinite Deathmatch (6)
After Shi Sheng upgraded Pei Jin’s ten black cards to level five, they exploded too.
“Trash.” Shi Sheng curled her lips.
One person could only possess ten cards of the same level.
Pei Jin, having survived so many worlds, wasn’t stupid. He quickly grasped the situation.
“Miss Yu, these cards…”
Shi Sheng waved her hand dismissively, generously saying, “They’re yours.”
‘They’re… they’re mine?!’
‘These aren’t cabbages; these are black cards!!!’
‘Skill cards that others could use!’
‘You just give them away like cabbages?’
Pei Jin was stunned for a moment, unable to process it.
By the time he regained his senses, the local tyrant Sheng who gave him the cards was already squatting nearby, continuing to feed crystals to her black cards.
Pei Jin glanced at the pile of black cards she took out. There were at least twenty.
She was undoubtedly the person with the most black cards he had ever seen.
Pei Jin was increasingly realizing he couldn’t go against her. With so many black cards and having killed so many dark elves, her strength couldn’t be weak.
Shi Sheng upgraded ten cards of every level. They looked quite beautiful.
“What’s wrong with her?” Shi Sheng put away the black cards, eyeing the girl named Miaomiao in Pei Jin’s arms.
She looked to be about fifteen or sixteen. She had a small, palm-sized face and a head of golden hair that seemed somewhat dull, likely due to not being washed for a long time.
“Miaomiao used a black card and needs to rest for twenty-four hours.” Pei Jin answered, perhaps out of fear or instinct.
Shi Sheng stood up and gave her assessment. “Her black card skill is quite impressive.”
Pei Jin grew a bit anxious. ‘She has so many black cards, is she going to try and steal Miaomiao’s?’
But Pei Jin clearly overthought it. After speaking, Shi Sheng turned away and started fiddling with the dark elf’s corpses.
Pei Jin couldn’t understand what this girl was thinking at all.
As night fell, the fluttering sounds of dark elves outside grew louder.
The entire building was pitch black. Pei Jin, who had just adjusted Miaomiao’s position, discovered that the person who had been squatting by the dark elf’s corpses munching biscuits had disappeared.
He quickly scanned the surroundings, but the light was too dim to see where she had gone.
Pei Jin remained wary of Shi Sheng. After all, her strength seemed formidable; it would be a piece of cake if she wanted to kill them.
As Pei Jin was searching for Shi Sheng, a ghostly voice whispered behind him. “Are you hungry?”
Every hair on his body stood on end.
‘When did she get behind me?!’
A bag of biscuits landed in his lap. Pei Jin turned to see her standing behind him, silent as a ghost.
“You…” ‘Just what does she want ah?’
‘If you want to kill us, just say so already.’
Shi Sheng turned away, dragging out a chair from somewhere and snorted. “I find that little girl pleasing to the eye. If I wanted to kill you, I would have done it already.”
Pei Jin thought about it and realized it was true.
But this reason was so strange.
He reached out to touch Miaomiao, tentatively asking, “Do you know Miaomiao?”
Miaomiao was someone he met in this world, a newcomer. Because she was about the same age as his sister, he took care of her.
Shi Sheng didn’t answer Pei Jin. ‘You don’t need a reason to like someone.’
Pei Jin and Shi Sheng stayed up until dawn. He only ate a little of the biscuits she gave him. Each world had food sources that could be found in certain places.
But few were actually able to get them.
So veterans always saved their food for later.
In previous worlds, he had even seen people resort to cannibalism.
At dawn, a few people approached. They were obviously aiming to kill Shi Sheng. They were likely nearby but didn’t dare come at night, so they waited until daylight.
Only Shi Sheng was able to see the level-up message. The others didn’t know what level she was. Veterans wouldn’t act rashly.
Those who acted first were surely new players who hadn’t figured out the rules but were desperate to survive.
Shi Sheng dealt with these people swiftly, proving to Pei Jin that this girl was not to be provoked.
He followed her with Miaomiao in his arms, deciding it was safer to be with her.
Shi Sheng didn’t object. Along the way, several people tried to rob her, but Shi Sheng quickly eliminated them.
In the afternoon, Shi Sheng found a place to rest. Pei Jin sat nearby with Miaomiao in his arms.
He figured it was about time.
Pei Jin waited for Miaomiao to wake up.
“Wu…” The girl in his arms groaned.
“Miaomiao.” Pei Jin’s voice carried a hint of tension. “Are you awake?”
The golden-haired girl slowly opened her eyes, her blue irises like a clear sky after rain, her long lashes fluttering. Her eyes were a bit dazed, making her look cute.
Her vision was blurry, but a face suddenly appeared in front of her. “These eyes are really beautiful.”
Miaomiao was so scared she shrank back, her muddled thoughts clearing. She looked at Shi Sheng in fright, thinking she wanted to gouge out her eyes.
“Miaomiao, this is Yu Xia. Don’t be afraid.” Pei Jin patted Miaomiao’s back, helping her sit up.
Miaomiao cautiously glanced at Shi Sheng, greeting her softly. “Hello.”
She still felt like Shi Sheng wanted to gouge out her eyes.
Shi Sheng stood nearby, her smile a bit creepy. That was the same smile she had earlier. Miaomiao swallowed nervously and lowered her head, not daring to look at Shi Sheng.
“Big brother Hu…” Miaomiao suddenly turned to Pei Jin. “He…”
Pei Jin sighed, patting Miaomiao’s head. “It’s fate.”
“Fate? You believe in that?” A sneer came from the side.
Pei Jin hadn’t believed in it either. He was born into a good family and was considered a favored child. But after inexplicably ending up in this world, he had no choice but to believe.
He looked at the girl beside him. From the first time he saw her, she seemed to exude a kind of arrogant confidence. Her eyes were always calm, as if nothing could stir her emotions.
Yet she wasn’t an emotionless machine that only knew how to kill.
She could smile and get angry, just like an ordinary person.
Such people lived the longest in this world.
Once you showed any weakness, you would be used by others and become the stepping stone for their survival. But how could a person have no weaknesses?
“It’s all my fault.” Miaomiao was too young to understand the conversation between Shi Sheng and Pei Jin. She only cried in sadness.
Hu-dage was dead.
Pei Jin didn’t have time to analyze what kind of person Shi Sheng was. He quickly comforted Miaomiao. “Miaomiao, you tried hard. Didn’t you save me in the end? Don’t be sad; Big brother Hu wouldn’t blame you.”
“Why the hell are you crying?” Shi Sheng was about to lose her temper. “He sacrificed himself so you could escape. Just live well, crying won’t bring him back.”
Pei Jin looked at Shi Sheng in surprise. Thinking back, she should have been able to see what happened from where she was.
“I know…” Miaomiao’s voice was choked with sobs.
She knew Hu-dage wanted her to live.
But with her abilities, she wouldn’t survive to the end. Hu-dage might have had a chance. She would have rather died herself.
♡ translator’s corner ♡ :
i know that my usage of honorifics as titles vs suffixes seems kind of arbitrary so i’m gonna try and explain: it makes sense for miaomiao to call him big brother since she’s a kid. similarly, because pei jin is talking to her, he calls him big brother as well. kind of like how you refer to parents as mommy/daddy when talking to their kids even though they’re obviously not your parents.
but outside of speech, i’m trying to use the suffix honorifics so that you’re not assaulted by a barrage of “big brother big brother big brother” all the time. hopefully that makes sense :3
