Chapter 648: The Weakest Battle Angel
Chapter 648: The Weakest Battle Angel
She was speaking to the Eternal Queen directly.
“I’ll admit it—when I first saw you, I was terrified! You were the nightmare that haunted my dreams for years! Even though the world celebrates us for defeating you, only we know how lucky we were to do what we did! The fear never really went away!”
She sneered, blood trickling from the corner of her mouth.
“But do you really think that fear is going to last forever?! You think you can hold us hostage for the rest of our lives?!”
“Fuck off, you ancient bitch! Get away from my son and never come near him again!”
Fauna joined in, her voice shaking but determined.
‘I don’t know how you’re doing this. You’re supposed to be dead, we made sure you were dead. But here you are, whispering in my son’s ear like some kind of parasite.”
Her smile grew sharper. “But I’ll tell you what hasn’t changed since the last time we met: we still won’t break. We never did. And we never will!”
Nadia’s voice was cold and steady.
“You’ve already lost once. You’ll lose again. And this time, we’ll make sure you stay dead.”
Yelena added her own defiance.
“Whatever you are—whatever you’ve become—you won’t win! We’ll protect our children, and we’ll protect those children down there! That’s what it means to be a mother!”
One by one, their blessings began to flare.
Light burst from their bodies—gold, silver, crimson, blue pushing back against the pink shards that sought to control them.
It was futile, perhaps. The Eternal Queen’s power was vast, and whatever hold she had on Mika made her stronger than she had any right to be.
But they had faced impossible odds before. And they had never backed down.
The Maiden of Fate was the last to speak.
She raised her head slowly, her tear-streaked face calm despite everything, and looked directly at the shadow behind Mika’s eyes.
“If you want to harm those children…”
She said softly.
“…You’ll have to go through our dead bodies.”
BOOM!
Simultaneously, the divine blessings inside all five Battle Angels exploded into blinding light.
Their majestic aura erupted outward, pushing back against Mika’s control with sheer, unyielding maternal willpower.
But just as the standoff reached its breaking point, a low, seductive voice echoed from the shadows behind Mika.
“My, my…it seems they simply won’t listen, my child.”
The Battle Angels instantly froze, a paralyzing chill running down their spines as a massive, pitch-black shadow loomed over Mika’s shoulders.
The shadow ignored the five women completely, leaning down to whisper directly into Mika’s ear.
“The only reason I kept these women alive, my darling boy…was because I thought you still harbored some sweet feelings for them.”
The dark voice purred softly.
“I even thought…perhaps you could keep them as your wives in the future, so they could bear your divine children…”
“DISGUSTING!” Yelena screamed, her face twisting in pure horror and revulsion. “We are his mothers! You foul, abominable monster!”
The shadow paid her no mind, its tone growing increasingly intoxicating, dripping with dark malice.
“Since they’ve proven so troublesome, perhaps it’s time to be rid of them. So, go forth, my child. Slaughter them! Rip them apart! Murder every single person standing in your way!”
“As the true patriarch and king of this world, it is only by stepping over their corpses that you will finally claim your rightful throne!”
The Battle Angels shouted desperately.
“No, Mika! Don’t listen to her!”
“She’s lying! She’s not your mother—we are!”
“Don’t fall for her tricks! Please, Mika, stop!”
The voice countered, growing louder, more frantic.
“Kill them, my child! Kill them all! Bring forth a new age from the ashes of the old! We deserve this—we deserve everything! They took everything from us! They separated us! They stole what was rightfully ours!”
The two forces pulled at Mika from opposite directions.
The Eternal Queen whispering promises of power and revenge.
The Battle Angels begging for him to remember who he was.
“Kill them, Mika!”
“Don’t do it, baby boy!”
“Slaughter them all!”
“Please, come back to us!”
“Take your rightful place as king!”
“You’re our son—our precious son!”
The voices overlapped in a cacophony of conflicting demands, and Mika stood at the center of it all, his face unreadable.
The Battle Angels felt their hearts pounding with dread. What would he choose?
His mind was so fractured, so broken—would he even recognize them anymore? Would he know who they were, what they meant to him?
The Maiden of Fate especially felt a cold terror settle into her bones.
She didn’t care about her own life—if Mika killed her, she would accept it as punishment for failing him so many times.
But she was terrified of what would happen after.
If he killed them, there would be no coming back. The boy they had raised would be gone forever, replaced by a monster who would bring ruin upon the entire world.
“Kill them, Mika!”
“Don’t do it!”
“Kill them!”
“Please stop!”
“KILL THEM!”
“NOOOOO!”
And then, in the midst of the chaos, Mika let out a long, slow sigh.
“You know.” He said quietly. “You really shouldn’t have said that.”
Everyone went still.
Mika turned.
He turned away from the Battle Angels, away from the children, toward the shadow that hovered at his shoulder.
“Let me be clear about something.” His expression was calm, almost apologetic. “If you had offered me any other alternative, I would have followed through. In my current state of mind, if you’d told me to ignore them, to bypass them, to find another way to slaughter those children on my own…”
He shrugged. “I probably would have done it. I’m not exactly thinking straight right now.”
He paused. His smile returned, but it was different now. Softer. Sadder.
“But you made a mistake. You told me to kill them.” He gestured at the Battle Angels behind him. “And that…that’s not going to happen.”
“After all…” He looked at the shadow with a mocking, incredulous expression.
“Do you honestly think that I…of all people…am going to kill the very women who raised me?”
The Battle Angels’ eyes widened, tears welling up afresh.
The shadow was silent.
Mika turned to face Yelena.
“Do you see her?” He said, pointing. “This woman waited at the door for me every single day when I came home from school. Every day of her life.”
“There hasn’t been a single afternoon where her face wasn’t the first thing I saw when I walked through that door.”
“And you want me to kill her?”
Yelena let out a wet, strangled sob, clutching her sword to her chest.
Mika turned his gaze to Fauna.
“And her? She looks like an adorable little squirrel when she smiles, doesn’t she? But when I got a random fever as a kid, she cried for three straight days without stopping.”
“Do you know how hard that is? She literally had to drink bottles and bottles of water just to keep herself hydrated enough to keep crying for me!”
“Do you know how much a person has to love you to do something like that?”
Fauna broke down completely, covering her face as loud, heavy sobs wracked her body.
Mika looked at Nadia, his smile softening.
“Nadia over there doesn’t show much on her face. She barely reacts to anything. But I know—”
He pressed a hand to his chest.
“I know exactly how much she loves me. More than anyone could possibly understand. She would lay down her life for me without a moment’s hesitation.”
“And you want me to kill her?”
Nadia’s lips trembled violently. Tears spilled over her cheeks, but she squeezed her eyes shut, fighting with all her strength not to wail aloud.
“And how could I forget you?” Mika chuckled, turning to the Maiden of War, whose face broke into a tearful smile.
“If there’s anyone I should hold a grudge against, it’s you! Every single morning, you dragged me out of bed to put me through brutal training, beating me black and blue. It pissed me off so much!”
His expression softened into pure, tender affection.
“But I knew…every single time you struck me, it hurt you far more than it hurt me. Every bruise I got, you silently cried in secret because you felt you had failed me. You just wanted me to be strong enough to protect myself in the future.”
“You want me to kill a mother like that?”
The Maiden of War finally broke, her tough facade crumbling into helpless, happy weeping.
They realized that despite the horrific trauma, despite his fractured mind…their boy was still in there. He hadn’t vanished.
Finally, Mika turned his head toward the Maiden of Fate with a deeply sympathetic, pitiful expression.
“And then there’s her. People call her the strongest Battle Angel, don’t they? They say the Angels can’t function without her leadership. But the truth is…she’s not the strongest at all.”
“She’s the weakest.”
The Maiden of Fate clutched her chest, her eyes shimmering.
“Not in terms of power, of course.” Mika continued. “Her ability to change luck is actually quite formidable. No—she’s the weakest in mind. The most fragile. The most pitiful one of them all.”
“Mika…” She whispered.
“This weakness doesn’t come from who she is as a person.” He said gently. “It comes from her blessing. You see, even though the Battle Angels have saved countless lives, she has seen even more lives that could have been saved.”
“If only she had been able to see the future…”
“If only she had predicted what was coming…”
“But the universe doesn’t work that way. There are some things hidden even from her sight, and she can’t save everyone.”
He shook his head.
“But even though she knows this, she blames herself. Every life lost, every tragedy—she thinks it’s her fault for not being powerful enough. She’s carried that burden her entire life.”
The Maiden of Fate’s body trembled. She couldn’t deny it—every word was true.
“And it’s not just that.” Mika continued, his voice full of gentle pity. “She blames herself for everything that happened to me. She thinks that with a blessing like hers, it’s her fault I was dragged into hell and tortured. Isn’t that right?”
The Maiden of Fate couldn’t even speak; her face was soaked in tears, her breath coming in ragged gasps.
Mika let out a soft chuckle.
“Look at her…look at how much she’s crying right now. Her mind is even more messed up than mine! Do you know what would happen if I told her ‘I hate you’ right now? Just those three words…her entire world would collapse!”
“She’d lose all will to live, thinking her son despises her. She is such a fragile woman…”
Mika looked back at the looming shadow, his eyes turning cold.
“And you want me to lay a hand on someone so fragile? To take her life? No. That’s not happening.”
He took a step forward, positioning his small body directly in front of the five Battle Angels, acting as their shield.
“If you want to take my life instead, go ahead.”
Mika said calmly, a bright, confident smile spreading across his face.
“But if you’re telling me to kill them…it’s not happening. So I’ll say to you what they said to me…”
He dropped into a sharp, flawless fighting stance, his power surging outward in a blinding burst of aura.
“If you want to lay a finger on my mothers…you’ll have to step over my dead body first!”
