Chapter 399: Returning To Sector S

When Samburt left the house to exercise his old bones a little, he saw the trio and wore an odd look on his face.

He would not be weirded out if it was a beautiful young woman who was using Wheeze as a pillow, but no, it was a man with a thick beard. To say it felt weird would be an understatement. Just last night, he had suggested to Pian Huo that she should shave her beard because it would make her look more youthful and vigorous. However, Pian Huo had ignored the advice and changed the topic.

At the time, Pian Huo was thinking: Are you kidding me? Do you know how much time and effort it took to create this disguise? No way I’m going to shave it until the end of this mission!

To be fair, a beard was perfect for disguising one’s face and altering one’s aura. It was also fairly easy and quick to put on—or at least, that was what she believed. That was why Pian Huo always put on some facial hair every time she donned a disguise.

While Samburt was observing the strange trio, one of his subordinates came over and whispered, “He’s gone, sir.”

The subordinate was talking about Czedow. Samburt trusted Pian Huo more than Cillin because of the young man’s affiliation with Yu Linglong. In fact, Samburt was on his toes whenever the Yu Family was involved. Even if Cillin had saved his life, he could not help but be on his guard. This was especially true after he witnessed what his companion, Czedow was capable of.

Cillin said that he and Czedow were the only ones who came, but right now Cillin was here, and Czedow was nowhere to be found. They had everything they could possibly need—food, medical supplies and so on—already, so why did Czedow leave?

Samburt gave his subordinate a small nod to indicate that he had received his message.

Samburt’s bodyguards recovered very quickly after receiving medical treatment. It was inevitable that those working in this line possessed much better constitution than most. Trust wasn’t the only reason Samburt had made them his personal bodyguards.

In fact, Czedow was away right now. He was currently collecting data from this slum and enhancing the firewalls. Now, the firewalls automatically filtered those who were locals and those who weren’t based on their signals. It wasn’t really necessary, but it was better than doing nothing.

Czedow was also invisible at the moment. This allowed him to observe the locals to his heart’s content and observe them at their truest.

Cillin mentioned that this place had undergone a bit of change, and that it used to be more populated in the past. After a bit of searching, Czedow was able to piece together a picture of what it was like based on the copies of the regional data he had duplicated. What he discovered surprised him greatly. He could hardly imagine that Cillin had grown up in such a place.

Weak wasn’t a good enough adjective to describe the people living in this place. Even ignoring their constitution, the locals’ natural lifespan was unbelievably short. Czedow had heard from Sha Rou and Shi Tang that their old home was located in a slum as well, but even then, the difference was like night and day.

To make a comparison, the average constitution of a citizen of Mist Bodhisattva Empire living in a slum was several times, even dozens of times better than a civilian in this place. Czedow only needed a rough scan to figure out the genetic condition of most of the people living here, and he understood exactly why they had nowhere else to go.

Czedw had found countless locals with severe genetic disorders, and most of them were children. The reason there were no adults was because most of them could not make it to adulthood. Such was their deficiency that even the latest genetic medicine had little chance of altering their fate.

Despite this, these children did not seem to realize their tragedy, nor could they feel how “dead” their home really was. They continued to chat up the adults and played with their companions like nothing. Maybe it was because they were too young to understand how tragic their fate was, or maybe it was the opposite. Maybe they understood their situation and accepted it for what it was a long time ago.

Czedow proceeded to inspect the background radiation index and pollution index of certain heavy metals and toxins. The answer he received was that the values exceeded what the children with the poorest genes could endure. At this rate, they would die out even faster than they already were.

There were also next to no aquatic creatures in the rivers. Although the planetary government had allocated some funds to release a batch of aquatic creatures into the artificial rivers after they were built, they had barely survived a couple of weeks before they went extinct. It was partially because of fishing, and because the environment negatively affected birth rates. The poor creatures had perished for one reason or another long before they managed to adapt to the environment.

The reason Cillin bought a house here was planning to build a territory for himself or something, but because he wanted to build a large underground anti-radiation network and a heavy metal filtration system for this slum. These networks would neither be captured by the “Heaven’s Eye” in the sky nor detected by the locals, and they would extend the lifespan of those with the poorest genes and allow them to live just a bit longer.

It would ensure that no one else would pass away before they grew up like Hena.

Hmm?

Suddenly, Czedow’s attention was drawn elsewhere. Some detection facilities had been installed in that area because they were part of Cillin’s plans. It was there Czedow had picked up some unusual signals.

He counted ten signals. It was probably the next group of killers, and they had come to finish the job.

Czedow ran. Cillin had bought that area yesterday, and it was an entire land of abandoned houses. There was little fear that the battle might be witnessed by someone.

Right now, shadows were passing through these abandoned houses so fast that the ordinary person would not even be able to see them. Then, the one at the forefront suddenly came to a stop before a half-collapsed wall. Behind him, nine others also stopped in their tracks, spread out, and took their positions. ʀ𝔞ŊôβΕꞩ

The leader of the group was wearing a mask that covered his face completely. Through this mask, he could see many things that were invisible to the naked eye. Right now, he could see an invisible humanoid silhouette walking toward him. It was Czedow.

His nine companions also possessed the same equipment, meaning that they could see Czedow as well. The robot appeared blurry to their eyes though. They could only see a rough outline and not his exact appearance.

“Who are you?” The leader asked in a raspy voice that made it impossible to identify his age.

Everyone knew that there was no way such a powerful person could exist in these slums. From the data they received from their employer, no such person existed in Samburt’s security details either. In that case, was this invisible person sent by Yu Linglong?

Czedow did not respond. Or rather, he responded by shooting at them. Samburt’s men weren’t here, so he didn’t need to pretend anymore.

His shots were swift and almost soundless. He was moving quickly as he fired as well. Even though the killers’ masks allowed them to see him, the chances that they would be able to keep up with him was low.

Seven seconds later, Czedow stopped moving and slowly dropped his invisibility. He was holding up his hands, and holes had replaced his fingertips. That was where his bullets had flown out from. As a robot, he did not need a gun to fire a projectile. He himself was the weapon.

The bullets he fired this time differed slightly from what he normally used, however. The bullets had all been enhanced with some “nerves”.

Last night, after Cillin told him about Pian Huo’s armguard, Czedow had decided to modify himself a little. Pian Huo’s armguard probably came from Si Huang, and it possessed both the excellent speed and homing capabilities. Czedow decided that such a weapon was a good fit with him.

The bullets Czedow fired from his fingertips were really a part of his own body, so he could control them and have them home in on their targets like missiles. Although the bullets probably couldn’t reach the level of Cillin’s Purgatory Thunder Snake, the bullets could continue pursuing their target even after they were blocked, and they had dropped to the ground. Unless the bullet’s mechanical nerves were destroyed, or their connection to Czedow was broken, or the bullet had exceeded a certain range, then it would continue chasing the target until they were eliminated.

Obviously, the ten killers wasn’t expecting to run into such an opponent. A few of them failed to dodge out of the way to begin with, and those who successfully evaded or blocked the bullets certainly did not expect to do a loop-de-loop and fly toward them again from another angle. Combined with Czedow’s own speed, and the entire engagement was over in less than ten seconds.

Looking at the ten dead killers, Czedow decided that his performance was satisfactory. He waved his hand, and the bullets flew back into his hand and melted into his “flesh”. After dealing with the bodies, he went back to his data collecting like nothing had happened.

Czedow wasn’t the only one who was alerted when the firewall was tripped. Cillin and even the sleeping Wheeze had received the signal as well. After Czedow had taken out ten foes in less than ten seconds, Wheeze immediately lifted its head with wide open eyes. Its first thought was: Damn, Czedow has gotten stronger again! And its second thought was: Meowdefucker! My shiny fur!
