Chapter 1337 - 677: A Pool of Pitch-Black Sludge (Part 3)
Chapter 1337 - 677: A Pool of Pitch-Black Sludge (Part 3)
The entire body of that alien invader had bulging, knobby tentacles, with eyes growing in the gaps between those bumps; it really looked way too much like a monster.
But this one’s body, by contrast, was relatively smooth.
It looked a bit like an oversized pitch-black Slime.
Of course, it had eyes all over its body.
Xu Xin recalled the information Xu Ying had told them earlier about the alien invaders.
"Each alien invader has huge individual differences; from a human perspective, every single one of them is some kind of different grotesque freak."
Looking at it now, that was indeed the case.
Just the two alien invaders they’d seen so far already had an enormous difference in appearance, to the point it didn’t even feel like they were the same species.
The only things they had in common were their pitch-black, ink-like bodies and the eyes all over them.
With appearances that different, and they still found those half-human half–alien invader hybrids ugly...
Though, that sort of made sense too.
The knotty one covered in bumps worked at the factory on the very outer edge of this area, while this "pitch-black Slime" was the gatekeeper of the World Tree.
The gap in status between the two was probably like heaven and earth; such a huge difference in appearance might be normal as well.
Aliens that looked like this pitch-black Slime might have higher status.
Xu Xin gave Wen Guixin a meaningful look and pointed at the sludge on the bed.
He was asking how much longer Wen Guixin needed to completely take control of the alien invader.
Wen Guixin held up three fingers at him.
Three more minutes?
Probably.
It couldn’t possibly be three hours.
Counting the few minutes from before, it meant she needed to keep in contact with an alien invader’s body for a full ten minutes to successfully infect it.
That timing made Xu Xin’s heart sink slightly.
Bear in mind, even with high-level mutant creatures, in her current state, as long as Wen Guixin could touch them, she could easily infect them.
Yet with an alien invader it actually took ten minutes...
Alien invaders were actually that much stronger than high-level mutant creatures?!
...No.
They shouldn’t be that much stronger. The monster had said the alien invaders conquered the universe using technology, not their physical prowess. Their bodily modifications focused mainly on extending their lifespan; their actual physical abilities weren’t that great.
The reason alien invaders were so hard to infect was because Wen Guixin’s toxin was a mental toxin, whereas the alien invaders’ nervous systems were different from most life on Earth—their nerves were spread throughout their entire bodies, highly decentralized, making them difficult to control.
Thinking of this, Xu Xin let out a slight breath of relief.
"Done!" Wen Guixin whispered in delight at that moment. "It actually went so smoothly!"
"Already finished?" Xu Ying stared wide-eyed at the sludge on the bed. "You can already control it?"
Xu Xin rubbed his eyes, then forced them open wider.
"Is it over? If it’s over, I’ll wake Keke up, otherwise I’m really about to pass out right here." Xu Xin felt his eyelids fighting each other.
He didn’t dare put Keke down, worried that if it left his cloak it would be discovered, so he could only tough it out like this.
"We’re good, wake Keke up." Wen Guixin said confidently.
Xu Xin immediately tugged on Keke’s big tail.
"Yip...?" Keke smacked its tiny mouth twice and opened its eyes.
Then it looked at the alien invader on the "bed," tilted its little head: "Yip?"
It seemed to be asking: "All done?"
This little guy really had done it on purpose.
What an absurd ability.
Just as Keke woke up, the sludge on the bed slowly gathered together, going from a floppy mess to gradually forming a defined body.
The eyes all over its body also slowly opened.
Then, like a Slime, it squirmed and dragged itself off the bed.
This alien invader was not small. Even just oozing along the ground like a Slime, its overall height was almost the same as Xu Xin’s, and even half a head taller than both Wen Guixin and Xu Ying.
It was like a soft-bodied monster standing upright.
Next, a hand bulged outward from its squirming body, stretching out and pointing toward the door.
Then it crawled toward the doorway.
The people at the door had already been peeking inside; when they saw this "Slime monster" inching toward the entrance, they immediately stepped aside, leaving the doorway open for the Slime monster that wanted to go out.
Reaching the doorway, the "Slime monster" moved like a soft-bodied creature, its body far larger and thicker than the gap itself, yet it simply squeezed through it, sliding out as smooth as silk, meeting no resistance at all, looking unbelievably soft.
Xu Xin felt like he finally understood why, at the start, this door had only been opened a crack and had been so hard to push.
Maybe for this "Slime monster," even that tiny crack from before was more than enough for it to slip through at will.
To it, that already counted as the door being open.
Xu Xin and the other two followed it out.
"What’s the situation now?" Qin Fu, leaning by the doorway, asked.
"I’m having it lead us into the World Tree." Wen Guixin followed behind the controlled monster. "Stay with it; it’ll faithfully carry out my orders."
At last, they were about to enter the World Tree.
