Chapter 500: Adam Whitefield
Chapter 500: Adam Whitefield
A couple of hours later, Lucy and Dawn arrived at the spa.
The building was quiet and beautiful. Soft music played inside.
The smell of flowers filled the air as they walked in.
Lucy smiled. “I already feel relaxed.”
Dawn laughed. “You haven’t even started yet.”
“I know. But I can feel it.”
A woman at the front desk greeted them.
“Good morning, Mrs Hank.”
“Good morning, Annabel,” Lucy replied pleasantly.
Lucy checked in, and a few minutes later, a staff member came to take Lucy for her massage.
“I’ll see you later,” Lucy told Dawn.
Dawn smiled. “Enjoy.”
“You too.”
“I will.”
Soon, Dawn was directed to the nail section.
As she headed there, her phone vibrated in her handbag, and she quickly took it out, expecting a message from Jamal.
She was looking down at her phone when she turned a corner, and then bumped into someone.
Her phone slipped from her hand and fell straight, hitting the edge of a flower pot before hitting the hard floor.
Dawn gasped as she looked down at her phone.
The screen had cracked. “Oh no.”
She bent down quickly.
The man she had bumped into also bent down. “I’m so sorry.”
He picked up the phone before she could.
Dawn took it from him and frowned as she stared at the screen.
The screen was broken across one corner.
“I’m sorry,” the man repeated.
“It was an accident,” Dawn muttered as she looked up at him.
The first thing she noticed was how handsome he was.
He was tall, with a strong, well-built frame that made him stand out even in the quiet spa. His dark hair was neatly cut, with a few soft strands falling naturally over his forehead. His face was sharp and clean, with a strong jaw, straight nose, and full lips that curved into an apologetic smile.
His eyes were blue and warm, framed by thick lashes that made them even more striking. There was something calm about his face, but his smile made him look very approachable.
He was dressed simply in a well-fitted black shirt and dark trousers, but the clothes only made him look more attractive.
For a brief moment, Dawn forgot about her broken phone.
He was easily one of the most attractive men she had seen.
“I’m sorry,” the man repeated.
Dawn blinked and looked down at her phone again.
“It was an accident,” she muttered as she looked back at him.
“I know.” He glanced at the phone in her hand. “But I broke your screen.”
Dawn shook her head. “You didn’t break it. We both bumped into each other.”
“I still feel responsible.”
She shook her head. “You shouldn’t. I wasn’t looking where I was going.”
His eyes moved back to her face, and he gave her another apologetic smile.
“Please let me get it fixed for you.”
Dawn shook her head. “No. It’s fine. It still works.”
He looked at her. “That’s not the point.”
Dawn smiled politely. “You really don’t have to. I can take care of it myself.”
“I want to.” He pointed toward the door. “There is a phone repair shop nearby. Let me take you there.”
“No.”
He shook his head. “I’ll feel terrible if I walk away knowing I broke your phone.”
Dawn looked at him.
He seemed serious. “Please let me fix it.”
She sighed. “I am due for my pedicure.”
“I’ll just ask them to reschedule you. I’m Adam Whitefield. I am the spa manager,” he said, and Dawn nodded.
“Okay.”
His face brightened. “Thank you.”
They walked out together.
The phone repair shop was only a short walk away.
The moment they got there, Adam handed the phone to the repairer.
“I’m busy right now. But I’ll have it fixed in thirty minutes if you can wait.”
Adam nodded. “We will wait.”
Dawn looked at him. “You really didn’t have to do this.”
“I know.” He smiled. “But I want to.”
“This is a waste of time,” Dawn said with a shake of her head.
“Do you know something else I want to do?” He asked, and Dawn raised a brow.
“I want to buy you a drink while we wait. Can I?”
Dawn’s heart skipped a beat.
“I have a boyfriend,” Dawn blurted out.
“Of course. Jamal Jonas. I’m sure half the country knows that,” he said, and Dawn frowned.
“You know me?”
He chuckled. “Of course I do. Aren’t you Dawn Hank? You were all over the news a while ago.”
She laughed softly. “You’re right.”
“So? Can I buy you a drink while we wait?”
Dawn shrugged. “Okay.”
He led her to the café next door, and after they had gotten their drinks, they sat in silence for a while.
“You know, I always wondered about you. I can’t believe I’m sitting here with you this way,” he said, shaking his head. “I didn’t expect to meet you like this.”
There was something warm in his voice.
Dawn smiled. “What did you wonder about?”
“You… And your love story.”
Dawn looked at him. “What about it?”
He shrugged. “I’m curious to hear about this perfect love.”
And so Dawn began talking.
She told him about her relationship with Jamal and how he had found her and about Josh.
Dawn was surprised by how easy it was to talk to him and how well he listened.
When she was done, he smiled. “Beautiful story. But do you really believe you love him?”
Dawn frowned. “I beg your pardon?”
He shrugged. “Pardon my scepticism. How sure are you that you don’t feel the way you feel about him because of the way he feels about you? What if you’re only reciprocating his feelings and not because you truly love him? I mean, until he paid attention to you and loved you, you’d not truly experienced love.”
Dawn frowned. “I love him.”
“Or maybe you love how he loves you,” he said, then glanced at his watch.
“Let’s get your phone,” he said, then rose to go get the phone.
Dawn frowned as she followed him.
The repairer handed her the phone.
She checked the screen. “It looks good.” She turned to Adam, “Although it wasn’t necessary, thank you.”
“Although there is nothing to thank me for, you’re welcome.”
Dawn smiled.
As they walked back to the spa, he talked. He asked Dawn questions about her podcast and about Josh.
By the time they got to the spa, they were both laughing.
Outside the spa, he reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone.
“Can we exchange contacts?”
Dawn paused. “I told you I have a boyfriend.”
“And I told you I know your boyfriend. If you’re sure of your feelings for him, then exchanging contacts shouldn’t be a big deal. Should it? Unless, of course, you believe I have what it takes to make your heart sway,” he asked with a teasing smile.
Dawn rolled her eyes playfully. “Aren’t you a little full of yourself?”
He held out his phone. “Your number.”
She looked at him for a moment, then shrugged. “Sure.”
She gave him her number.
He called her phone, and when it rang, he smiled. “Got it.” He held out his hand, “It was nice meeting you.”
Dawn took it. “Same here.”
He held her hand for a moment longer than necessary, “I love the feel of your hand.”
Dawn giggled. “Thanks.”
He grinned as he let go of her hand. “Let’s go in. I’ve spent enough of your time already.”
He led her into the spa and to the nail section, then after instructing them to attend to her, he held out his hand again. “Have a good day, Dawn.”
She shook his hand. “You too.”
He smiled one last time before walking away.
Dawn watched him for a few seconds, then she looked down at her phone.
His number was still displayed on her screen.
She stared at it.
She had no idea why she had given him her number so easily or why she had spent so much time talking to him.
As she slipped the phone into her bag, she told herself it was nothing.
Just a new friend.
Nothing more.
