Chapter 12 – Camille-san and the Saporabis
I discovered a hot spring and planned to develop the area into a tourist destination. However, I wasn’t sure if this fell under the scope of charitable activities, so I consulted the God of Commerce-sama. He hesitated a little, but I was relieved to receive his approval. However, as is often the case, there were some additional requests that were a bit troublesome. Still, they’re not too difficult, so I’ll do my best.
Camille-san’s negotiations went as planned. On the third day, an envoy appeared and agreed to our demands. It was a complete victory.
Since we had anticipated their weak points and negotiated accordingly, it was inevitable that we would turn the tables and tell them it would be troublesome and that we would proceed with the other plans first.
From their perspective, they probably wanted to call it unfair, but… I’m not an expert negotiator, so bargaining isn’t my strong suit.
We had originally assumed that the Aquamarine Kingdom would accept the negotiations and had finished preparing for that. In the remaining two days, we not only finished negotiations with the country but also completed the request to investigate the hot springs.
People who are good at their jobs really do act quickly.
By the time we visit the Aquamarine Kingdom again, William-san will probably have a plan to develop the hot springs as a tourist destination.
That’s why we decided to set sail from the Aquamarine Kingdom and head home.
“Wataru-san, what’s going on? Something’s definitely different about the Saporabi-chans!”
After switching from the Lutto to the Chateau, we walked only a short distance before Camilla-san noticed the change in the Saporabi, just as I expected.
Saporabi bowed to us when we returned and waved goodbye with their right hands, so anyone but a very slow person would have noticed.
Naturally, Marina-san and the others also noticed the change and were paying close attention to it.
“Ugh, there’s no doubt that Fuu-chan is the cutest thing in the world, but Saporabi’s cuteness shouldn’t be underestimated.”
Marina-san is wrong. The cutest thing in the world is Rimu. Next is Pent.
“Yeah, they’re cute.”
Carla-san’s compliment is simple, but she will probably like Saporabi even more once she finds out they can cook delicious food.
“That’s right. The previous Saporabi-chan was cute, but the current one is livelier and more charming.”
Claretta-san will also want to cook with the Saporabis. Huh? Are the Saporabis really going to attract all the girls’ attention?
I feel a sense of crisis as I notice the Saporabis who just met me staring at me. They want me to explain.
“Actually, the Saporabis’ functions have evolved. With permission, they become conscious and can eat and drink. Each Saporabi has a different personality, which is quite interesting.”
Some Saporabis suddenly enter the room to give presentations, some bow deeply when greeting others, and some just wave their hands lightly.
It seems that their souls significantly influence their personalities.
“Differences in personality and eating habits! This is going to be huge. We’ve received quite a few requests about dining with the Saporabis.”
The Saporabis are very popular. Unless you have special circumstances like mine, it’s easy to be attracted to these fancy, fluffy, two-legged rabbits.
“Hmm?”
As I thought about how popular the Saporabis are, three of them came walking over to me. They were holding stacks of documents. They must be the Saporabis who came to give me a presentation. They seemed to be trying to contact Camille-san right away.
“Saporabi, I think you want to negotiate with Camille-san, but I have something to talk about, too. Could you do it later?”
“Puh.”
The Saporabi in the center nodded and handed me a document.
Ah, it’s an appointment document.
They had prepared a stack of documents for when the presentation started right away and another stack for making appointments in case the presentation didn’t start right away. Saporabi, you’re scary.
“Wataru-san?”
Camille-san asked me, wondering if something was wrong because I had been called.
“These Saporabis seem to be good at negotiating and planning. They try to sell their services. I was convinced, but I told them to leave the negotiations regarding the Castle to Camille-san, so they came to make an appointment with you.”
“That’s interesting. I’d love to hear more about it.”
“Oh, wait a minute. I have something to discuss with you as well.”
“Ah, you mentioned that earlier. My apologies. How much time will you need for your discussion?”
“I just need to talk, so it shouldn’t take too long.”
It will take some time to make arrangements to fulfill that request. Since it involves work in Southern City and Cagliari, it should suffice to discuss it in advance and have Camille-san figure out the procedure.
I considered gathering supplies in the Aquamarine Kingdom but decided against it because the kingdom is currently experiencing a supply shortage.
With so many beastmen gathering, it’s no wonder the Aquamarine Kingdom is running out of supplies.
If it weren’t for the abundance of funds attracting a large number of merchants, we would be in a dire situation.
I’m doing something that will affect the supplies of an entire country.
…Hmm? Wait, maybe I shouldn’t have told Saporabi about that. No, if I put it off, Camille-san might get carried away with Saporabi, which would make it difficult for me to talk to her.
“I see. Would you mind talking to me at the café over there? I’ll listen to Saporabi and the others after I’m done. Should I write that down, too?”
Camille-san takes a ballpoint pen from her breast pocket, fills out the appointment form, and hands it to Saporabi.
“Puu.”
The Saporabis accept it and nod with satisfaction. It would be rude to say it directly to them when they’re right in front of me.
After going through the formalities, we part ways with the Saporabis and head to the café.
Incidentally, Marina-san and the others were curious about the Saporabi who had been freed from their consciousness. Instead of following us, they went to explore the ship.
I’m a little lonely, but I’ll explain what I need to do for now.
“I see. There was a large-scale war in the southern continent. Although the war has settled down, there is a serious shortage of supplies. You want to help with that, right? And it’s best not to ask where you heard that information, right?”
I appreciate her sensitivity. She must have realized that it’s definitely related to the gods.
“Yes, I appreciate that.”
“I see. So, what kind of supplies are you planning to transport, and in what quantities?”
How many items are there, and how much are they?
It takes time to go back and forth, so I want to collect as much as possible.
I’m not trying to solve everything myself; I’m just helping out. However, if the whole continent is in ruins, a half-hearted effort won’t do any good.
“I can collect as much as possible. If I use Ship Summoning, I can store large quantities for a long time, so that won’t be a problem. As for the items… Do you know what a war-ravaged country needs?”
If we end up with too many supplies, I can always buy more ships. Quantity isn’t a problem.
“Yes, that’s right. As for food, clothing, and shelter, we obviously can’t provide houses, but if many people have lost their homes, we should prepare places for them to rest, such as tents and bedding. Food and clothing should be prepared as a matter of course. In addition, it would be a good idea to prepare medical supplies. Then, to heal their spirits, we could provide entertainment items, such as sweets and alcohol. Is there anything else?”
Camille-san couldn’t stop talking. But I could tell that she was listing things that seemed necessary.
“I will cover the expenses, so please gather as many items as you think are necessary. In addition, please bring items that can be sold. It would be great if you could get them at a discount, since we are buying in bulk.”
This is a charitable endeavor, but helping merchants recover is what the God of Commerce-sama wants. I plan to bring items to give away for free, as well as items to help merchants rebuild their businesses.
Since I don’t plan on making a profit, I want to sell items at prices as close to cost as possible.
“Also, wouldn’t it be inappropriate to provide food and drink from luxury liners and ferries?”
“Yes. If refugees become accustomed to a lifestyle more luxurious than royalty, it will only cause problems.”
Yes, I understand. If refugees have access to delicious food and drink, they will definitely be less motivated to work.
I was thinking of securing alcohol and food from this world for donations to the Beastmen’s town and festivals, but I’ll have to put that on hold.
“In that case, we won’t be able to gather enough from the Southern City and Cagliari alone. Would it be okay to ask commercial guilds in other countries to gather supplies on a large scale?”
“That would be fine.”
It would be counterproductive to gather too many supplies in one country and cause trouble for it.
“I understand. I’ll prepare the documents so we can request supplies from the commercial guilds.”
“Thank you.”
I bowed to Camille-san and stood up. As I did, the Saporabis headed toward her, so I assumed the presentation was about to begin.
…I thought about watching it but decided against it. It seemed like it would be difficult to understand.
I walked back to my room to take a break and passed a Saporabi who was walking awkwardly.
“Master, did you see that Saporabi’s face just now? He definitely made fun of me, didn’t he?”
Ines suddenly voiced her dissatisfaction.
“No. Even though their emotions have been liberated, I can’t tell what they’re thinking just from passing by. Besides, Saporabis don’t make fun of people for no reason.”
Even if their emotions are liberated, they shouldn’t be that free…
…Th-That outfit is a casino dealer’s uniform.
I won a bet with Ines the other day, so maybe she’s projecting her feelings onto the Saporabi.
Ines, you should stop betting. I’m serious.
