Chapter 1005: Breaking the Rules
Chapter 1005: Breaking the Rules
Kyle's mind was rearranging things as Star Genesis and Sebastian looked at him. Inside his mind were fragmented memories he hadn't made. There were not many of them, and they were disjointed, but he still remembered a couple of scenes.
He remembered Earth, but this Earth was different. The people were different, and there were even ways to grow stronger. These powerful people were similar to Seekers but... less complete. They couldn't unearth the full potential of Energy.
If one described that version of Earth, it seemed like a great place. After all, it was Earth plus a way to grow stronger.
And yet, that world was anything but friendly.
It was dark. Really, really dark.
It was dreary, hopeless, constricting, oppressive, and most of all, it was filled with unending suffering and atrocities.
Kyle remembered "working" with some things that could only be described as monsters.
He saw snippets of a tentacled monster doing... things to him. He remembered killing thousands of innocent and helpless people. He remembered being forgotten by the world. He remembered being lonely but determined. The loneliness was an expense for a grand purpose.
Kyle held his head as his mind gathered the individual snippets of a life he hadn't lived. The snippets gathered at the edge of his mind, and slowly, they vanished.
It was like Kyle had woken from a dream, and as time passed, he forgot more and more details of the dream. In the end, only a mixed feeling remained. It was a mix of pain and determination.
Kyle focused on that feeling for a moment. It felt familiar. Wasn't this how he had felt about Ayuvar? Wasn't he also taking risks and working hard so that Ayuvar could recover?
'No,' he thought. 'Compared to him, I didn't sacrifice anything. I want to fight for Ayuvar, but I'm not truly sacrificing myself. If I had an opportunity to survive, would I have given him control over my mind, even if it reduced Ayuvar's chances? Probably.'
'I'm not like him. His commitment to Earth vastly outclasses my commitment to Ayuvar.'
'But now, I know how such a person feels. I wonder, does Swamp Dragon experience the world like this? Does he also feel this bottomless emptiness inside of himself when he dedicates everything to the cause?'
'No, probably not. That's because...'
'He doesn't break his own moral code to achieve a greater purpose. The means and the end are pure. That's not the case with this mysterious person from Earth.'
After reordering his mind, Kyle's perception stretched into the Demon Car.
As he entered its mind, he saw... nothing.
It was completely empty.
Before this entire incident, the Demon Car had had a mind. It hadn't been active, but it had been there. Technically, the Demon Car could have made autonomous decisions. It had simply decided not to make any choices.
Now, there was nothing. In fact, the Demon Car didn't even have a mind. The place Kyle believed was the Demon Car's mind was actually just an image conjured by his own imagination. There was no empty space. There was no space at all.
Kyle's perception was drawn to a different location inside the Demon Car, and he followed it.
In the next moment, Kyle found himself in another separate space, but this time, it wasn't empty.
As he looked up, Kyle saw two distant spheres. One was completely white, while the other one had eight harmonious colors. There was a barrier separating Kyle, the first orb, and the second orb, creating three separate spaces.
The colorful orb was surrounded by black and white chains, and there were three additional chains that locked it to something in the distance. Meanwhile, the white orb only had black chains and two chains that locked it to something in the distance.
'I should be surprised,' Kyle thought with an uncomfortable expression. 'This is my Spirit Space, but there's a second Spirit in here. There shouldn't be a second Spirit inside my Spirit Space.'
'But I'm not surprised. Somehow, I feel like I already knew about the second Spirit. I'm not sure what the consciousness inside the Demon Car has done. I don't understand anything. I feel like I used to know what it has done, but I don't remember.'
'Yet, even though I don't remember, my instincts partially remember. I instinctively know this is the Demon Car's Spirit. I can feel that the Demon Car has become part of my body.'
As Kyle looked at the two Spirits, his mind and instincts investigated them. Energies moved back and forth, telling Kyle about what was happening.
'I see,' Kyle thought. 'I am not one entity anymore, but I'm also not truly two entities. There are two Spirits, but both Spirits interact with one mind, which is my own. My mind interacts with one Center and one Core Spark. Finally, the signals split again. My Spirit interacts with my body, while the other Spirit interacts with the Demon Car's body.'
'In a way, you could say that I'm a conjoined twin, except that there is only one mind.'
Kyle's perception returned to the real world, and he felt like he saw double. He felt the surroundings twice. His perception encompassed an area with a radius of four million kilometers, which was four times bigger than previously. At the same time, he could also feel the surrounding 300 kilometers a second time.
Several realizations entered Kyle's mind as his instincts made sense of what he was experiencing.
'This shouldn't be possible,' Kyle thought with furrowed brows. 'Based on the rules, an existence like mine shouldn't be allowed to exist. My existence is blatantly taking advantage of loopholes in the rules.'
'One being is only allowed to take up the spot of one existence. Even Immortals with Avatars count as one existence. Yet, that's not true for me.'
'Sebastian also broke these rules, but he only slightly stepped over the line. Meanwhile, I completely stepped over it. The way my existence breaks the rules is much more extreme and blatant.'
'I can count as either one or two existences, depending on how it suits me. I can count as a human or an Elemental, depending on what I desire.'
'When my actual perception stretches out, it isn't blocked by the Demon Car's body. After all, the Demon Car is part of me. My Energy Sense also isn't blocked by my arm.'
'Yet, when others perceive the Demon Car, they can't perceive me as long as I'm inside it. After all, the Demon Car is a separate entity with its own Spirit and will.'
'And since it has its own Spirit, it also has its own place in the Laws of Karmic Luck. It has its own Karmic Lines. As long as I am inside the Demon Car, my existence becomes imperceivable.'
'I have the choice between two options. Both of them carry advantages and disadvantages.'
'Yet, I can choose both of them at the same time, replacing the disadvantages of one option with the advantages of the other.'
Kyle's perception stretched into his Spirit Space again. He looked at his own Spirit with some discomfort.
In the next moment, the white of his Spirit vanished, replaced by eight colors.
'How?'
'How have you done this?'
Kyle realized that his fundamental existence had broken the balance that the God of this Cosmos had carefully laid down.
His potential had broken the rules. No existence was supposed to have such potential.
And that made him nervous.
If the God returned, he would notice Kyle, and then...
He would kill him for breaking the rules this blatantly.
