Chapter 1132: Life Worth Living

Chapter 1132: Life Worth Living

Kyle threw a glance at Fox. "You better not show yourself in front of me, but that decision might not be up to you."

Fox looked back. "You better not show yourself in front of the actual people in charge, but that decision might not be up to you. As far as I can see, you're more likely to die than me."

"We'll see," Kyle replied with a cold voice.

Naturally, Fox wasn't allowed to publicize Kyle's identity since he was very important to her new owner. If she even attempted to talk about him, she would die.

Next, Fox looked at Swamp Dragon for a moment before looking away. "I'm not sure if my words have any weight to you, but I hope that you can live a long life."

"All words have weight," Swamp Dragon answered.

A complicated expression appeared on Fox's face. Swamp Dragon had tried to kill her, but he had also given her a way out. She wasn't sure if she liked or hated him.

"Kyle," the man transmitted. "You might not hear from us again for a long time. We believe that the best course of action is to let you live your life. You don't seem like someone who would appreciate other people dictating your life to you."

Kyle just nodded without an answer. He was still a bit annoyed about the man's dishonest vote.

"Then, I wish you all good luck and a long life," the man said.

Swamp Dragon, Sebastian, and Melanie nodded, while the others remained quiet.

Fox threw one last glance at Ayuvar. She felt so relieved that she could finally leave, but at the same time, she also felt some loss. This had been her prison, but it had also been her home.

The reality around the man and Fox warped, and moments later, they vanished. While outsiders couldn't enter Primary Worlds without the permission of the Overseer, they could leave without issues. For someone with the man's power, it wasn't difficult to pull Fox with him.

Now, only four people remained.

Kyle, Swamp Dragon, Sebastian, and Melanie.

Fox was gone, and Ayuvar had finally been freed of her corrosive and oppressive influence.

Kyle glanced at the others for a moment, remembering the time they had come to Ayuvar.

They had entered with six people, and now there were three, excluding Melanie.

Manny had deleted his memories and died to Fox.

Lara had died to Fox and Swamp Dragon.

Fierce Breaker had willingly become Kyle.

Kyle remembered the stunt Swamp Dragon had pulled with the Last Light before getting here. He had done that to get an assurance that he would become the Overseer.

The Swamp Dragon of today was similar yet different from the Swamp Dragon of back then. He still fiercely and strictly followed his morals, but they had also subtly changed. In the past, they had been fixed. He had refused to commit atrocities and had followed his moral compass perfectly.

Yet, after he had digested the inheritance, that part had changed. Now, he was willing to commit atrocities as long as their effects led to a better future for most people.

Since the man was now gone, Kyle could kill Swamp Dragon. Sure, Kyle only had one Avatar right now, but he was sure that he would still be able to beat Swamp Dragon. Fox had been a very powerful Immortal, while Swamp Dragon was one of the weakest Immortals imaginable.

However, Kyle wouldn't kill Swamp Dragon. If Swamp Dragon died, the man might notice, and that would end badly for Kyle. Yet, the bigger reason was that Kyle simply didn't want to break his own word. After all, he had accepted the votes.

In short, he just didn't want to break his word.

"Is there anything you want to tell me?" Swamp Dragon asked.

Kyle just kept looking at Swamp Dragon. He wasn't sure if he wanted to ask something or not. The less contact he had with Swamp Dragon, the better.

"Why did you tell the Overseer about the Minor Law of Death?" Kyle asked, already knowing the answer.

"To kill her," Swamp Dragon answered.

"Knowing that it would kill Lara, Sebastian, and Ayuvar?" Kyle asked. He didn't think that Swamp Dragon had predicted Sebastian's survival.

"The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few," Swamp Dragon answered. "A life must lead a life worth living to count as a life. In Mortal terms, I was amputating a limb to save the body."

Kyle took a deep breath. Swamp Dragon's answer sounded great, but Kyle still hated it.

"That's all," Kyle answered after some time. "Go do whatever you want to do or whatever. Your life is no longer connected to mine."

Swamp Dragon didn't immediately leave. Surprisingly, a rare expression of slight hesitation appeared on his face. It seemed like he wanted to say something.

"You chose this life," Kyle suddenly said, throwing a cold glance at Swamp Dragon. "Now, live it."

Swamp Dragon closed his eyes for a moment before opening them again with conviction.

"You're correct," he said. "Then, this is farewell."

"Bye," Kyle answered coldly.

Swamp Dragon also looked at Sebastian, who just sneered at him with disgust.

Finally, Swamp Dragon teleported away.

Kyle's jaw muscles clenched as he gritted his teeth. He knew exactly what Swamp Dragon wanted to say.

Despite how driven he was and how emotionless he seemed, Swamp Dragon was still a human with emotions and desires. He was simply keeping a tight grip on them.

Kyle looked at one of his Karmic Lines.

This was Swamp Dragon's Karmic Line.

Kyle remembered when his "companions" had cut their Karmic Lines to make him summon the Gate of Death. Back then, there had been a relatively neutral Karmic Line and two supportive ones. Kyle had believed that the supportive ones had come from Sebastian and Fierce Breaker.

Kyle looked at the fiercely yellow-and-green Karmic Line.

'When I met him again in Ayuvar, his Karmic Line had been almost grey. Yet, as soon as he digested the inheritance, it turned yellow.'

'After meeting him in the Star Seeking, we quickly became friends. I've betrayed him once, but he decided to give me another chance. Then, I lied to him, but he gave me another chance. When I betrayed him the final time, he cut off all our connections. Our friendship ended when I sent that letter to him.'

'I guess that letter and the condensation of his Complex Mind Law pushed him to such extreme actions. I assume he wanted to be free of all emotions so that he could judge the world as objectively as possible.'

'But when he digested the inheritance, he probably realized that this was not the right way forward. I don't know what memories the inheritance contains, but they were so strong that they changed him.'

'Most likely, his new viewpoint allowed him to view me as a friend again, but at the same time, he also couldn't be my friend. His goal was more important, and the best way to reach it involved making me his enemy.'

'You knew that you had to do it, but that doesn't help, huh?'

'In the end, you still felt the pain of betraying your only friend.'

Kyle glanced at the spot where Swamp Dragon had just been.

Before Swamp Dragon had left, his mask had slipped.

'I know what you wanted to say.'

'You just wanted to apologize and wish me all the best.'

Kyle's grip around his hammer tightened.

'But if you had actually said that...'

Kyle took a deep breath, pushing his hatred and anger down.

'I might not have been able to control myself.'

'I might've killed you on the spot.'

'Swamp Dragon...'

'I want to kill you...'

'But I don't want you to die.'
