Chapter 1160: Wrong but Right
Chapter 1160: Wrong but Right
Swamp Dragon's aura showed an accurate picture of what he had gone through.
He had been shattered into pieces, and he took those pieces and put himself back together. However, the person he rebuilt was very different from the original.
Kyle remembered the stories Swamp Dragon had told about his past. He had been betrayed many times in his life, which was why he had avoided attachments. Eventually, he got attached to Kyle. He gave friendship one more shot.
And then, that person betrayed him as well.
Swamp Dragon lost all hope and gave up. Now, he saw attachments as weaknesses since they were just distracting him from his true purpose. The person Swamp Dragon died, and a machine was born. To commemorate the birth of this new machine, he deliberately infused his mind with the most stalwart Element, Earth. In his own way, he had sworn an oath. He lived for his goal, not for himself.
His aura only spoke of pure hatred when he saw Kyle again. Yet, he wanted to suppress this hatred. Swamp Dragon told himself that this hatred was just a sign of a past attachment. He had to kill his hatred! Only if he could become truly emotionless could he become the perfect person.
By now, Swamp Dragon had accepted the fact that he couldn't keep up with Kyle. He wanted to do good, but he knew that he would most likely not make it far in the Supreme World. He needed a place where he could maximize the good he could do, and becoming the Overseer of a Primary World was such a place.
Finally, the group entered Ayuvar.
When Kyle saw his old home again, a feeling of longing and nostalgia washed over him. The auras of the people he saw were just how he had imagined them.
The vast majority of the people fought the Demons with a purpose. They wanted to protect their home. There were plenty of rivalries between people, but most of these rivalries were not based on selfish desires but on the worth someone could bring to Humanity. When a Seeker saw another Seeker with resources, they became antagonistic because they thought that they could turn these resources into more contributions than the other Seeker could."These Contribution Points are wasted on you! At most, you can kill 30 New Sage Demons if you use all of them, but I can kill 500 Early Sage Demons if I had them! You're wasting Humanity's resources!"
Of course, there were also plenty of selfish people, but the number was much smaller than one would expect. When two people were in a group consisting of ten people, they were more likely to contribute when the other eight contributed as well. If the other eight didn't contribute, these two people were less likely to contribute. Humanity had fostered a culture of unity, and Kyle believed that it was beautiful. Even he had been affected by Humanity's overall culture.
And then, there were the leaders of Humanity...
Some of them were manipulative monsters that just tried to become more powerful by joining the winning side, the Demons. However, most of them were just hopeless. The normal Seekers didn't know about the true power of the Demons, but they did. They saw the actual numbers, and these numbers were sobering. They didn't dream of freeing Humanity. The best possible scenario was keeping the status quo.
Yet, when they saw Kyle's display, their hope was ignited. Humanity's culture returned to their hearts, and they showed their commitment. They all swore selfless oaths to protect Kyle. They knew that this oath would kill them, but as long as Kyle survived, hope would remain!
Eventually, Manny deleted his memories, and Swamp Dragon digested the inheritance.
After going through the inheritance, Swamp Dragon's damaged aura healed. Whatever he experienced while digesting the inheritance had given him a new perspective on life.
All of his hatred for Kyle vanished almost immediately, and the ever-present inner conflict that raged within Swamp Dragon finally calmed down.
He realized that becoming emotionless wasn't the goal. An emotionless human was not a human. If he wanted to achieve his goal, he needed to accept his humanity and his emotions.
Swamp Dragon experienced deep pain when he decided to sacrifice Ayuvar to kill the Overseer. He hated betrayals above everything else, but for the good of Ayuvar, he needed to perform the ultimate betrayal. The spiral of agony had to be stopped. Humanity was too far gone. Humanity wasn't strong enough to get out of this spiral themselves.
However, sacrificing Humanity could end this spiral. A new Humanity could form, and this Humanity wouldn't face eternal suffering, war, and pressure. For the good of the future, the present had to be destroyed.
Kyle witnessed Humanity's destruction once more.
'I hate this,' Kyle thought as he looked at the storm with a helpless expression. 'I fucking hate that I agree with Swamp Dragon. Knowing what I know now puts this into a new perspective.'
'No matter what choices I would have made, my power would have never reached Fox's power. I needed Fierce Breaker's Energy. I needed the Major Law of Death. I can't have the Major Law of Death without the Minor Law of Death, and I can't have the Minor Law of Death without sacrificing the world.'
'We only had two choices. One, let Humanity remain in this state of eternal pressure, agony, fear, and hopelessness. Two, kill it for the good of future humans. This is like killing a sick person to protect the others. I hate it. The person hasn't done anything wrong. It's not their fault that they're sick. They don't deserve this. But if they don't die, everyone else will get sick, and the sickness will never die. We saved one life, but everyone else's life will become just as horrible.'
'Usually, reality has infinite possibilities. There are all kinds of solutions to a problem.'
'But Ayuvar's situation was truly desperate and dire. It was actually THAT bad.'
Kyle thought about this choice for a long while.
'Time is the difference.'
'At the moment in which the decision has been made, it was wrong. We can't know the future, and going through with the choice also destroyed all future possibilities. Things might change. New variables might get introduced that open new possibilities.'
'At that moment, it was the wrong choice.'
Kyle sighed.
'But in hindsight, I believe it was the right one. It was a mistake that turned out to be correct.'
As Kyle watched Lara die, he closed his eyes in pain.
'It was the right choice...'
'But I don't think I could have made it. I can't sacrifice my home and Lara, and I don't want to.'
'If I had to make the choice, I would have chosen differently. Even if I die, at least, I would have died following my heart.'
Things kept developing, and eventually, Fox summoned the Gate of Death.
Yet, when Kyle saw the Gate of Death, his brows rose.
There was just... nothing.
Fox moved back and forth, and she even partially vanished at some points. However, Kyle just couldn't see the Gate of Death or the Will of Death.
'I see why,' Kyle thought. 'This Cosmos is made of Energy, which means its reality is made of Energy. Death is not part of Energy. If you mix Death and Energy, like the members of the Cult, you can see it since the mix partially contains Energy. Yet, the Gate of Death and the Will of Death are made of pure Death. Therefore, they do not exist in the reality of this Cosmos, which is why the world couldn't record their existence.'
Eventually, Kyle summoned his own Gate of Death, and yet again, Kyle couldn't see it. After all, he was just watching a recording of reality.
Kyle watched Fierce Breaker nourishing the hammer while swinging it, and Kyle noticed that Fierce Breaker's aura was becoming more and more like his own.
Kyle couldn't pinpoint the time when Fierce Breaker died. By the very end, he had basically already been Kyle.
Kyle created his Avatars and prepared for his fight.
The fight ended, and the negotiations took place. All of this happened very recently, which was why Kyle didn't gain any new insights.
When the past Kyle was about to leave the world with Sebastian, Kyle threw one last glance at Swamp Dragon.
He sighed.
'I hate you.'
'But thank you.'
Moments later, the recording of reality reached the present, and when Kyle saw himself advancing, he felt reality distorting.
He had gotten the opportunity to watch his entire life from a new perspective. This was a unique experience.
'Sure enough...'
'The advancement feels enlightening.'
