Chapter 1455: One Lie
Chapter 1455: One Lie
"Cheers." They had a small party to celebrate the summoning ritual.
Nathan enjoyed it quietly since it was nothing much for him since all his familiars were divine beasts.
However, it was a big deal for Vivian. Vivian had just skipped a few ranks and summoned a true god.
Her familiars, whether it was the dryad, the ancient elf, the elder druid, or even the ancient spirit, were equal to Charlotte. They might have reached the highest rank, but they had yet to attain divinity.
It could be said they were one step away from it. However, with no guidance about this power, they had yet to progress to this stage.
Only after this could they be equal to Fenrir and the others. And this time, she summoned someone one rank above Fenrir.
So, the celebration was necessary.
Once the celebration quieted down, Vivian couldn’t help but come to Nathan.
"Thank you." Vivian thanked him first. It all started with her getting reckless when chasing after Soul Eater.
Yet, Nathan not only looked past it, but he even suggested such a powerful goddess.
"It’s nothing much." Nathan shook his head.
Vivian smiled, her eyes looking as if there were a lot of problems in her head.
"Is there something wrong?" Nathan tilted his head in confusion.
Vivian was a bit hesitant, but looking at Nathan’s concern, she knew that she had no choice but to push this forward. If she acted as usual, she might regret it.
Besides, even if she wanted it, she needed to confirm whether Nathan wanted it or not.
The feelings had to be mutual. Even though Gaia had told her that Nathan advised her because he wanted this to happen, Vivian wanted to get the answer directly from Nathan.
Hence, with a resolute expression, Vivian asked, "Can you spare me a bit of your time? I’d like to have a talk with you, privately if possible."
"I don’t really mind." Nathan thought for a moment before nodding his head.
"Great. Let’s go somewhere quiet... Let’s go to my room." Vivian hurriedly walked away, as she became a bit too embarrassed to face him with all those impure thoughts.
"Hmmm?" Luna couldn’t help but see them walking away before nudging Evelyn gently. Evelyn turned to her only to find Luna pointing in Nathan’s direction.
After seeing what happened, Evelyn nodded. "Just let them be."
Even though she acted as if she weren’t interested, she quietly sneaked away as if she wanted to get something.
Meanwhile, Nathan sat down on the bed, while Vivian grabbed a chair and put it in front of him.
"So, what do you want to talk about?" Nathan asked.
Vivian looked down for a minute as if she couldn’t say anything. She said, "I haven’t really helped you that much, have I?"
"What are you talking about?" Nathan wanted to protest, but Vivian raised one finger, asking him to be quiet.
"Let me finish." Vivian took a deep breath. "I took you in as my disciple back then. Indeed, you could say I have helped you to a certain extent. Even if I act humble, I should acknowledge that much so as to not make it sound like sarcasm.
"I did help you with your herb bath, which strengthened your physique. Other than that, I don’t think I have helped you all that much.
"If you want to say I have taught you a lot of things, then you are wrong. In the academic world, I did teach you something, but your insight also elevated my knowledge to a whole new level.
"It could be said it was an equal exchange between two scholars, so I can’t say it counts.
"You have had your own path from the beginning. Starting from Fenrir, you gradually make your way up.
"In less than three years, you have surpassed my strength. Your invention has surpassed even mine.
"Normally, a teacher can help their student for much longer. At that time, there would be more opportunities to help their disciples. That was what I thought too, but you were too extraordinary.
"That’s why I haven’t helped you much. Instead, you have been the one helping me.
"The inventions that make me even more famous, the inventions that make money, Charlotte, Gaia, and even this revenge... You have helped me with everything. Yet, I feel useless as a teacher."
Nathan opened his mouth, wanting to tell her she was wrong. However, her expression made him tongue-tied.
Vivian’s eyes glazed as if she were about to cry. Even though she said he was like a son to her. She provided next to nothing. Could she actually claim all that proudly? The answer was quite obvious to her heart.
"Back then, I was so angry because you lied to me. I personally don’t mind if you keep a secret from me. Everyone has a secret. I do too. I don’t expect you to tell me everything, but I wish that you would tell me only the truth if you decide to say it.
"That’s why I told you I would sever our master and disciple relationship when you lied to me again.
"I never thought I would be using my own statement against myself." Vivian pushed Nathan down.
With her hands next to his head to stop him from leaving, she looked at Nathan with a face full of shame.
She knew this was wrong. She knew she shouldn’t do it. Yet, she regretted not having done it sooner.
She gave the best smile she could make despite her tears forming at the corners of her eyes.
"Nathan... Do you have any feelings for me?"
Nathan’s eyes widened in shock.
Just like her, Nathan had already thought about it a long time ago. It might have been due to his perverted heart at the start, but that feeling gradually changed to a much more mature feeling.
Nathan suddenly raised his right hand and put it on the back of her head as he pushed her head down so that her lips could touch his.
"!!!" Vivian froze up as things moved so quickly.
Nathan simply flipped their positions around.
As their lips parted, Nathan said with eyes filled with affection. "I don’t."
It was an obvious lie, especially after that kiss. This was his decision. No, she opened the gate for him to take that step.
Nathan once again came closer to kiss her. No longer in shock, Vivian gradually closed her eyes, accepting Nathan completely.
