Chapter 1470: Overcoming the Past
Chapter 1470: Overcoming the Past
"I didn’t want you to have a life filled with revenge, and I thought I had succeeded in teaching you more about life, but looking at me like this..."
The old elf had a lot of regrets. The biggest regret was probably that while he was trying to protect his daughter, he ended up becoming the thing that would render all his previous teaching useless.
"I’m sorry for being useless, my daughter, Vivian."
"NOOO! Don’t die." Vivian screamed, but the other party couldn’t hear her anymore. They might have started awkwardly as a family, but he had become a figure she absolutely needed in her heart.
Yet, it was taken away. No, the same figure had been taken away from her twice.
The same question appeared in her mind again.
Even though they had a common enemy, why did they kill each other? Why did they not just fight the alien to satisfy their desire to fight? Why must one suffer because of their own greed?
What was wrong? Was the old man right? If he hadn’t taught her kindness, would she be in this much pain?
Vivian had been thinking about it for so long. She thought she was right and the old man was wrong until Nathan appeared in front of her.
The old man thought he was useless, as his death became the trigger for her to become corrupted with the poison he was worried about.
But it looked like he was the right one. That teaching was proven to be correct when he met her third family, Nathan.
Although their form was different from the previous two families, the fertilizer that the old elf once told her about finally found its ultimate form. The fertilizer had good nutrients but still had a little poison in it.
He provided her with the environment for her to grow, but at the same time, he didn’t let her get fully consumed by that darkness.
Vivian looked at Soul Eater. Despite wanting her revenge, she remained focused, showing that the revenge hadn’t blinded her.
Even Regina was surprised that the desire for her revenge wasn’t the same as the previous time she saw her. This revenge still drove her crazy, but she kept enough cool to approach the battle systematically.
Vivian waved her staff. Countless vines emerged from multiple locations and tried to form a prison that would capture Soul Eater.
Soul Eater waved his hand, sucking the life out of those vines, but the moment they withered, new ones sprouted, supporting them.
More importantly, the vines kept him busy, not allowing him to harm the others.
Then, with a small gap between the vines, Regina swung her sword and sent forth her own power through that gap.
"!!!" Soul Eater was flustered. He already had a hard time confronting this never-ending power, so he didn’t have time to deal with the occasional attack from Regina.
Soul Eater extended his hand. The black cell expanded into a big arm to catch the sword strike. It was able to swallow it until it completely disappeared, but during that time, Vivian had already prepared something else.
"World Deviation."
The vines had actually grown much more than Soul Eater expected.
It grew up and formed a magic circle above the cage when Soul Eater was still too focused on the sword strike.
Then, the magic circle was activated and shone brightly. All the plants that basked in the light suddenly grew even faster, as if they had gotten the boost of ultimate fertilizer.
"What is this?" Soul Eater panicked and looked around. He tried to suck the life out of them, but the vines simply grew much faster than he could eat.
"What is going on?"
Vivian looked at him with a cold expression. It had been fifteen minutes since they started fighting, so both sides had spent a certain amount of energy.
The moment Vivian noticed there was a reduction in performance from Soul Eater, she hurriedly used the power that she had been cultivating for the last few years.
Back then, her father lost his life because Soul Eater could overwhelm the power of life contained within the plants.
That was why she made a magic circle that contained the power of life with the help of Gaia.
In addition, this power’s biggest inspiration came from Luna, the master of magic.
She combined everything she had learned until now and created a magic that could neutralize her opponent’s power.
"Stop it!" Soul Eater shouted and tried to get away, but to no avail. No matter how much soul he ate, the vines would continue to grow.
Brute force couldn’t free him either.
He had grown stronger by allowing the black cell to grow even more in his body. He could certainly draw more power.
Yet, for some reason, he couldn’t break free. He thought it was just a vine prison that he could destroy at any time, but it turned out this vine prison was a setup to overwhelm him.
At this rate, the vines would continue to grow and fill up every gap. It would enter his body and tear him apart from the inside, just like what he had done to the old elf.
Soul Eater gritted his teeth. "I’m not going to go down that easily. Aaaahhhh!"
Soul Eater was screaming in pain as the black cell was gradually covering his entire body, turning him.
Just like Frequency, the power coming out of his body grew to a much higher degree. Soul Eater grabbed the vine.
Instead of sucking the soul away, the vines started turning black as if the soul of the vines had been eaten and converted by the black cell.
"!!!" Vivian was the first to notice that she had lost control over a part of the vines. And that loss continued to increase.
She hurriedly recalled the vines and finally saw what happened.
Soul Eater was holding black vines that had been converted to the point where she couldn’t even recall them anymore.
If she let him continue for a bit longer, it might become catastrophic.
Soul Eater glared at Vivian. "You... are going to die as brutally as possible. I’m going to make sure of it."
