Chapter 1636: Curiosity
Chapter 1636: Curiosity
"As much as I want to say everything is going to be fine, I really can’t say it. This is something unprecedented, and I have no way of predicting what they will do.
"You can step away from the throne before, and people will be happy, especially with your faction being dismantled. Other than your aunt and Duke Coline, your faction is gone. No one sees you as a threat anymore.
"It’s true that Nathan is a huge backer, even more so compared to your previous faction, but he is located far away.
"There might be thoughts about employing the same tactics to expel him, but I have managed to find a solution for that.
"However, becoming a goddess is a different matter. Once you become a goddess, people will follow you easily. They will compare you to others. Nobles and commoners might even ask you for blessings.
"That’s why your every action will be accounted for. This will definitely reach the new king or queen’s ears.
"Unless they’re a very, very pure person, if they are being compared to a goddess all the time, they will definitely feel inferior. They might even develop an inferiority complex. At that time, they will try whatever they can to harm you or take advantage of you.
"It will be worse if they’re taking advantage of your kindness as well as your love for this kingdom, thinking that there won’t be any punishment falling upon this kingdom even if they mess up.
"The situation will become even worse if we put Nathan and all those girls into the pictures. I mean, you will probably not be the only one, right?"
Flora gave confirmation with a nod.
"That’s why I can’t predict how it will unfold. If you are angry, just the thought alone will be enough to mess with the entire kingdom. People will say, ’The goddess is angry at the royalty. The royal family is going to fall. We’re acting on behalf of the goddess,’ and so on.
"At that time, I won’t know what to do. I love this kingdom and I try to give all my children a good life, even though the battle for the throne is still ongoing.
"You may be able to ignore the criticism because you are someone from a much higher position, but the others might not.
"I finally understand the severity of the situation. I’m glad that you are still worried about this kingdom. Now, I finally know why you are coming to me."
Julius looked at the ceiling, feeling a bit helpless. "I don’t know what I can suggest at this point. Maybe I will be able to come up with something over time. It’s just... how many people are going to know this?"
Flora counted the people. "Probably 8 people? Selena will probably inform the Sage and Count Ashton. I don’t know if I should tell Mother and Aunt Rena about it or not, so they’re not counted for the time being.
"Sera will definitely inform the Pope, considering the faith might end up getting swayed by her appearance as a goddess. After all, it’s easier to believe in a goddess who is living in front of you than what has been written.
"Alavenya is close to her father, but he is pretty much a neutral faction. At most, he will probably become a guardian or some sort of protector for our city.
"Noelle will definitely tell her father. As for whether her father will pass that information to her brother or not, it’s up for debate.
"I have told you, so that makes it six. The other two are people from another continent, so you don’t have to worry about them."
"I see." Julius looked down. "I suppose it will be fine if I discuss it with the prime minister? I will ask him to keep it a secret and take it to his grave, of course."
"I suppose that is fine." Flora nodded.
"Also, you may want to tell your mother and aunt about it. I don’t know about Duke Coline, though." Julius raised one finger. "Your mother is good at keeping secrets. None of my secrets have ever been exposed by her. Meanwhile, your aunt is a duchess, so having you alone will cause a lot of mess. It’s better to warn her."
Flora agreed. "I don’t think that will be a problem."
"All right. That’s good. That also means I can discuss it with more people." Julius exhaled deeply. "I never thought that your success would end up becoming one of the most troublesome cases I have to face in my lifetime. I’m not angry. I’m proud. It’s just... complicated."
"I can understand, Father." Flora nodded.
"For now, I will think about it. We have to do our best, you see? I won’t let my daughter fail to become a goddess simply because she’s too worried about this kingdom."
Flora smiled. "That’s all I want to talk about. The reason I was helping other kingdoms was related to that matter. Unfortunately, I couldn’t disclose a lot of secrets."
"Understandable. People say this is Heaven’s secret." Julius chuckled. "Still, I have to ask you. If you are really going to become a goddess, does that mean you’re going to become an immortal? If I die, will I go to Heaven or Hell?"
Flora chuckled. "I don’t know if I will become an immortal or not, but it’s true that I have to cast away my mortal body and forge my divine body to become a goddess. As for what happens if someone dies, there are basically a few ways, not just two."
"Not just two?"
"Yes. Heaven is like another realm where souls are being gathered. You can say a realm beyond this world. It can be formed, not by me. Hell is the same. It’s another realm to punish people.
"However, there are other ways, such as reincarnation. According to your beliefs, your destination will change. For reincarnation, your deeds will be judged and counted. If you have done so much good in your life that it far outweighs your sins, you will be reborn with much better conditions, such as being born as a noble or having a good talent. Of course, without your memory.
"There is also a doomed path where your soul will be extinguished, meaning you won’t exist anymore. No reincarnation, no eternal lives, and so on. And a few other paths that I may not have discovered yet."
"Really?" Julius’ eyes brightened. "Maybe I should start worshiping my daughter from today? In that case, what will happen if I die?"
Flora chuckled. "That’s a good question."
