Chapter 1796: Nathan’s Past

Chapter 1796: Nathan’s Past

"I am..." Nathan wanted to give them an answer, but Mae suddenly stopped him. "Master, it’s best for me to show them!"

Nathan frowned. "What are you doing?"

"Shouldn’t they know about you? I know that you’re not going to show them your childhood. However, their childhood is very clear to you, Master. Since you intend to reveal everything, you need to reveal everything." Mae frowned.

"I don’t need pity."

"It’s not about pity. It’s about honesty. It’s about you." Mae believed that the reason Nathan was in such a dilemma was because he didn’t understand his own existence. In that case, she believed that showing them everything would give them the right to decide whether he was Nathan Reckmoon or not.

At the very least, she wanted to stop his dilemma over what others were thinking.

"I don’t care if you’re going to punish me because of this." Mae wanted to help Nathan in her own way. After knowing his memory as well as what he said to Ananta and Garuda, she was determined to make it clear.

"I—" Nathan wanted to stop her, but Mae simply covered her ears while screaming, "Ahhhhh! I can’t hear anything!"

Without hesitation, Mae activated her illusion ability.

Nathan let out a long sigh.

Everyone noticed that the scenery had changed one more time. Instead of outside, they were inside. This was the first time they had seen a modern house. It had a small open space connecting the kitchen and the living room.

However, the only thing they could see was something unpleasant.

"What the hell are you doing? Where did you put my beer?" A middle-aged man, wearing an oversized t-shirt and short pants, kicked a young boy in the gut.

"Gah!" Nathan spat some acid and fell to the floor. He hurriedly covered his head with both arms as the middle-aged man stomped on him.

"Oi. Can you hear me?!"

Selena and the others froze. They looked at the kids and saw similar features to the Nathan they knew. Of course, Nathan said he came from another world, but there was also Nathan in this world. So, his body features should be following the body of Nathan in their world.

Still, they could see some resemblances.

They knew that the kid on the floor was Nathan.

"I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry!" Nathan kept apologizing for no apparent reason.

"Tsk! Boring kid." The middle-aged man gritted his teeth. "Bring my beer outside. You only have a minute."

The middle-aged man snorted and exited the house while tossing his cigarette on the floor, almost hitting Nathan.

"..." Nathan didn’t say anything until he left. After that, he immediately put out the cigarette before rushing toward the kitchen, bringing the beers from the fridge.

He quietly handed over the beers to his father. Instead of thanking him, the middle-aged man smacked his head until he fell to the ground headfirst. "You should have done that from the start."

"Is this... Nathan’s life?" Sera watched in horror.

Despite such harsh conditions, Nathan took a deep breath before grabbing a wet cloth. He threw the cigarette into the trash can before wiping the floor.

He muttered, "Can’t you see that this house might catch fire? If I don’t clean the house, this house is going to be a living hell. If I fall sick because of that, there’s no way that man will ever pay my medical bill..."

He could only complain in a low voice while cleaning. The reason the house remained clean was because of him. He had maintained this house even after being beaten.

"Ha..." After he was done, he let out a long sigh.

This was probably the first time they could see Nathan’s proper face.

Selena and the others were horrified. Nathan’s eyes were blank as though all the light in them had completely disappeared. There was no hope left in his life. Yet, the kid just refused to let hell take over this house.

He knew he would be beaten even harder if he let the house get dirty.

Even in this situation, the kid refused to die. He protected his body and head just so that he didn’t have to go to the hospital and get beaten even more severely.

It might be because of this environment that the boy felt like he had seen the abyss.

He was tired. He just wanted to drop to the ground and die, but his survival remained a priority.

He shook his head furiously, gathering a bit of energy to continue living.

However, as he was about to walk away, he suddenly fell on his knees.

Selena and the others instinctively moved forward, trying to catch Nathan, but this was just an illusion.

Instead, they saw Nathan clutching his stomach while gritting his teeth, enduring excruciating pain.

"Khhh..." Nathan teared up, but he didn’t let out a sound.

He struggled on the floor, but he remained silent.

Mae, surprisingly, gave them what Nathan sensed back then.

There was mixed pain. It didn’t just originate from one cause.

Nathan felt hungry, making them wonder when was the last time he ate. It was something that most of them had never felt. The only one who could probably understand him was Iris. However, the period of Iris living in the slum was very short, so she never felt the pain to this extent.

However, hunger wasn’t the only thing. The stomach was upset because of the food he had eaten.

Those two combined with the pain from the beating made him unable to get up.

It felt like they were being stabbed tens of times with a blade in their stomachs. They knew how hurt it was to get stabbed once. After all, they had been injured so many times.

Yet, a kid like him had to endure everything.

But what was even more shocking was that after the pain subsided, he rushed outside through the back door. He ran as fast as he could, reaching the restaurant that could only be reached after twenty minutes of running.

And he did it in his current condition.

For what?

Nathan’s plan was simple. He immediately went through the trash and picked up some leftover food.

The smell was disgusting, but Nathan simply muttered, "There are no ants yet. It’s still fine... maybe. Ignore the smell, ignore the smell... Die or not, it’s fated."

While closing his nose, he devoured the food as if there were no tomorrow. He wanted to throw up, but he refused to do it, knowing that he might not be able to find anything to eat if he threw this up.

He just swallowed everything he could.

As soon as he finished, he just looked up while closing his eyes. Tears were streaming down his face from disgust and pain.

Yet, there was a sense of relief and regret, as if telling the world that he... ended up surviving another day.

"Delicious..."
