Chapter 1799: Illusion or Real

Chapter 1799: Illusion or Real

"Yo, do my essay, mate. Here you go." A young man came to him and handed over some money.

"Got it. It will be done." Nathan winked playfully.

"Thanks, man!"

"No worries. Don’t forget to pick it up tomorrow!"

"Okay!" The young man walked away.

Nathan took a deep breath before smiling.

After running away, he managed to find an orphanage that would take him in. Although the treatment wasn’t that good, it was at least decent enough for living.

Nathan wanted to go to school, and this orphanage had some sort of deal that allowed them to send their kids to school. That was why Nathan stayed in this orphanage.

For the next few years, Nathan struggled a lot. He managed to receive some education, but after the economic crisis, his parents divorced, and they changed completely.

Still, Nathan managed to get back to school. He did everything in order to catch up.

He didn’t care if he was the oldest among them, considering he couldn’t go to school for a few years because of his family circumstances.

Nevertheless, he didn’t care about his condition or the judging gazes from others.

Fortunately, he managed to catch up with what he had lost. Once he reached middle school, he managed to study quite well.

He wasn’t exceptionally talented or smart, but that was because of a few things. One of them was him being someone who would do one’s homework as long as they paid him.

He decided to use this small gig to prepare himself for the future. The first thing he bought with the money he managed to gather over the year was a smartphone.

He wanted the smartphone to have much more convenient access to the internet. He could search for a lot of things without using too much time. After all, he didn’t exactly have that much time since he had to finish the homework that he had been paid to finish.

Of course, he spent time researching his own study. After all, he intended to enter university or college. Even if the student loan was high, he could at least repay it by working hard in the future.

So, Nathan ended up spending his free time researching. This was when he actually encountered his form of enjoyment. Novels.

Nathan already knew novels. However, there were many types of novels.

Although he might feel better if he managed to read a traditional novel, he was tired. He strained his brain to study as well as to do other people’s homework. After all that, he just wanted to get some rest.

In other words, he became more interested in web novels. This type of novel had something that suited his needs. It wasn’t hard to read it. He could simply turn his brain off and read it as a way to cool down. Besides, the updates only consisted of a Chapter or two, so he could finish them in a few minutes. He could spend a bit more time reading something else.

That was what he had been doing all this time. He used to fantasize about the world within the novels.

He wondered how nice it would be to have a family in that world. Even if he had to work hard to help them, he would do it. He wanted to know the kind of warmth that the main characters used to experience when they became a person of that world.

Unfortunately, Nathan personally was disappointed to know that he felt empty toward his family in this world, even though they had given him their love. When Nathan figured out the reason for his emptiness, he didn’t know how to react. He just kept it with him all the time.

Of course, Mae didn’t show them to that point. Instead, Mae showed them one last scene.

It was the last scene of his life.

After a period of peace, Nathan’s body started to forget the misery of the past, making him a bit more fragile.

He felt a lot of pain, but at the same time, he became a bit more emotional. He thought it was fine because he needed to be full of emotions so that he could embrace his future family.

But he ended up in so much pain, which resulted in a mistake that led to his death.

The last thing Selena and the others saw was Nathan waking up in the body of the original Nathan, with the small Fenrir appearing before him.

It showed at what point the original Nathan became the husband they knew about.

"So, my dear has changed even before meeting us? Then, is there even a reason for us not to know any of this?" Flora asked.

"That’s right. If it’s something like this, doesn’t that mean the worries are unfounded?" Sera tilted her head in confusion.

"Indeed. I know where your weird knowledge comes from, but you should have told us about this. Do you think we will hate you because of this?" Bella nodded.

"What happened to the original Nathan, though?" Noelle asked.

Mae explained, "The original Nathan had died. The original Nathan fought the aliens and died, but with him was the God of Time, Cronos. Because of him, the original Nathan kept reincarnating again and again.

"As a result, the original Nathan kept saving the world. He might lose at every end, but it allowed him to keep growing. He eventually became a true god, but in the end, he succumbed to his despair and used the Soul Contract to summon Master.

"He twisted the master’s luck, the ability to summon beasts, and a few other things, which he believed to be a way to avoid his despair reaching Master. In exchange, he would disappear for good.

"However, I couldn’t divulge more information about his life than this. He kept repeating the same life millions of times and continued to fail. That despair... no one could imagine. So please understand. This is the least you could do to respect him. That’s also why Master could possess so much karma."

All of them nodded in understanding. They didn’t intend to peek into the original Nathan’s life. In the end, Nathan Reckmoon was their husband, not the original Nathan. Even if he used to be their husband, they wouldn’t care because they had no memory of him.

"Still, it doesn’t change the fact that this is not enough to be the reason to keep this memory a secret." Selena frowned before turning to Nathan, who was standing in the corner. "I don’t mind secrets, but I just can’t understand why you’re trying hard to keep this a secret."

Nathan looked at them before sighing.

"That’s..." Mae wanted to explain, but Nathan raised his voice. "Mae."

Mae froze, looking at Nathan and pleading with him to please allow her.

However, Nathan just gave her a sad smile and said, "It’s too late to go back now. That’s why please allow me to be the one to finish it. Let me say it."

Mae bit her lip before lowering her head.

The girls looked curious, wondering what kind of reason Nathan had.

Nathan took a deep breath before speaking in a grim tone.

"I am not Nathan Reckmoon. I might be just data stored inside this world as Nathan Reckmoon. In other words, I’m just an illusion... an illusion that wants to be real."

"!!!"
