Chapter 2305: Good to see you too, Mira.
"Poop!"
Selene cursed as she stomped her leg on the ground. Noctis laughed, then he walked towards his sister, gently held her hand and—
"Alright, let’s go in and give the shopkeeper his money."
He spoke responsibly, then he stared at his sister and—
"And stop saying that word, if I hear it again, I will tell Mother Edda."
"And I will tell Mother Melia that you are stalking me!"
Selene didn’t give in.
"I wasn’t stalking, I was counting. It’s different. And it was your brother who told me to do so. He said you didn’t have the money to eat so many candies every day, yet you somehow did."
Noctis revealed the truth and Selene widened her eyes—
"Veyron!?"
She asked, her pink eyes now reflecting anger. Veyron was her real brother, Edda was pregnant with twins, Selene and Veyron, and the two had quite different personalities.
Selene was playful and loved to tease people around her, Veyron, on the other hand, was smarter. He normally acted dumb, childish even, but his mind was scarily quick, he noticed small things that children of his age would often miss.
"Yes."
Noctis nodded.
Noctis was Melia’s only son, he, like his mother, did not talk much, and he had power over blood. He was one of the stronger kids, not many siblings could actually defeat him in a battle.
"That traitor! And to think I gave him one of the candies I stol—"
Little Selene swallowed her words before she said too much, Noctis narrowed his eyes at that, however, before he could ask anything, Selene grabbed his arm and pulled him into the shop.
The sibling pair went in, paid the shopkeeper, despite him saying no many times, then, as they came out—
"How did you even know Sister Kira was here?"
Selene asked curiously.
Kira was Thyra’s only daughter and she and Noctis, because they both were people of few words, were quite close to each other.
Noctis was one of the few people Kira actually talked to.
"Did she follow you here?"
Selene asked curiously.
She wanted to meet Kira too, she wanted to get close to her. Kira had a nigh-perfect stealth, most beings in the world could not detect her presence if she didn’t want them to.
Selene could see countless uses of this ability, so she wanted to get close to her, but Kira, who had already sensed her intentions, usually avoided her.
"She did. The two of us will spar after I return."
Noctis nodded.
"So you only came here to stop me?"
Selene couldn’t believe it.
Just what was wrong with this brother of hers? Why come in the middle of her candy heist? What had she done? Was there a personal vendetta involved?
"Yes."
Noctis nodded.
He then looked at Selene with a solemn look on his face and—
"You should not break rules and you shouldn’t steal, you may not think it through, but your actions can hurt people."
"I don’t steal that much."
Selene muttered in a low voice.
Noctis, however, shook his head.
"It starts small. It is better you stop before it becomes a habit."
"Okay, mom!
Blehhh!"
Selene stuck her tongue out, showing her displeasure. Then, after a while, she thought of another thing—
"Wait."
She spoke out loud. Then, she turned towards Noctis with an excited look on her face and—
"Aren’t you and Sister Kira close?"
"We spar with each other regularly."
Noctis nodded.
"Then her statement doesn’t count!"
Selene grinned.
"Else I could say you stole from me and Velora will say it’s true! Hah!"
Selene’s grin widened, she was so proud of what she thought that she placed both her hands on her waist and puffed her chest.
Noctis looked at her, somewhat shocked, then—
"You still don’t get it, do you?"
"What?"
Selene asked, confused.
And in return, Noctis just asked another question—
"You do know Nyx is back from Aurendor, correct?"
And the instant she heard those words, Selene’s expression changed.
"What...?"
She quickly looked down at her own shadow and noticed it was trembling very softly and that was all it took for her to realize what was happening.
That was Nyx.
She was Mother Lane’s daughter.
A Primordial Shadow Demon, a being who has the ability to... exist inside all shadows simultaneously.
She had been learning to use this ability to grow as a strategist, as a being who would know the location of an entire army before the battle even begins.
She had gone to Aurendor together with Mother Lane to practice her ability, if she was back, then it would mean she had succeeded and if she had succeeded...
Then it meant Nyx watched everything that happened...
Selene couldn’t lie her way out of this.
"You..."
Selene pointed her finger at Noctis, in an instant, all her excitement about her victory puffed away and she...
"You came prepared, didn’t you!?"
She raised her voice, blaming Noctis.
Noctis just shrugged and—
"Give me my money back, or I will talk to Mother Edda."
Saying those words, Noctis walked away.
"You! Just you wait!"
Selene raised her voice, then, with a cute ’hmph’, she turned towards a different direction and walked away from Noctis, all while angrily eating her candy.
"Hmph! My mood is spoiled!"
Selene complained in her mind, then, as if she thought of something, she changed the direction she was walking in and dashed in a different direction as if she already knew where she wanted to go next.
A few minutes later, she was in a completely different place.
A park.
A place for children and their parents to visit and spend some time together, the moment Selene arrived here, the first thing she heard was children laughing loudly.
She looked around, as if trying to find someone and her eyes finally fell on a group of children running and chasing each other.
Selene smiled when she saw that sight, her eyes then fell on the center of these children, a place where another girl her age stood.
She had soft auburn hair tied into a loose ponytail, with a few gentle strands slipping free and framing her face, giving her a naturally carefree look. The warm tones of her hair glowed softly under the sunlight, adding to the gentle, comforting presence she carried.
Her bright blue eyes sparkled with pure joy, as if she saw the world as something beautiful every single moment. Her cheeks were lightly flushed, and her wide, genuine smile made her look unbelievably adorable.
She wore a light, airy dress in soft pastel shades, simple yet charming, with delicate folds that moved easily as she ran around. The fabric looked comfortable, made for someone who never stayed still for long. A small ribbon was tied at her waist, slightly uneven, like she had done it herself.
The girl clapped excitedly.
"Again! Again!"
The other children cheered as they ran towards her, and she, being much faster than them all, avoided them without any trouble whatsoever.
"Slow! You people are too slow~"
She laughed lightly but the rest of the children didn’t fall back, they laughed as well and continued to try and catch her.
Selene saw that and walked closer, the instant she did, she felt the air around her change, it felt... lighter, warmer even.
And just as she expected—
The instant she got close—
Her mood became better.
"Hehe~"
Selene then disappeared and appeared right beside the girl, out of all the children here, she was the only one who had the ability to do that.
She placed her hand on the girl’s shoulder, shocking the girl for a moment, she couldn’t believe someone actually caught her, but the moment she turned around to see who it was—
"Sister Selene!"
Her eyes widened with pure excitement and happiness and—
"Sister!!"
She jumped on Selene and hugged her as tightly as she could. Selene, after spending some time with Noctis, clearly appreciated the change. An adorable grin appeared on her face as she hugged her sister back.
"Good to see you too, Mira."
She smiled.
Mira then moved away, the smile plastered on her face never faded away even for a moment, then, she excitedly turned towards the benches at which the parents of the children were resting and—
"Mother!!"
She waved excitedly.
"Look! Sister Selene is here!"
She spoke and Skyla, who was sitting on the bench, resting after playing with the children for a few hours, waved back at her daughter and then at Selene with a light, gentle, motherly smile on her face.
It was... quite strange to see such a mature look on Skyla’s face. It just went on showing how much the existence of a child changes a person.
That difference was now clear on Skyla’s face, her motherly gentleness made her... even more charming.
A sight Nux would always appreciate, a sight... he had usually been having a hard time controlling himself in front of...
"Let her play with all of you as well, okay?"
Skyla spoke politely, as she looked at Selene, who had started waving at her as well.
She was good with children to begin with, so almost all children were very close to her, something she enjoyed a lot.
"Yes!"
Mira nodded excitedly before she grabbed Selene’s hands and started telling her the rules, rules Selene quickly grasped and the game continued.
