Chapter 1061: Nexus Rules

Chapter 1061: Nexus Rules

Thanks to the holographic console, Idan and Arabel found out that the Nexus, in addition to the central square with the circular teleportation building, is divided into five sectors. These sectors, like rays, radiate from the center, forming a clear radial structure.

Each of the five sectors is a clearly marked space dedicated to the specific purposes of the Awakened.

* The Trade Sector.

* Guild Sector.

* The Craft Sector.

* Entertainment Sector.

* Residential Sector.

The holographic console also displayed the Nexus’ current development rank, Rank 0. According to this rank, only a small number of Core Modules and Slot Modules were available in each of the five Sectors.

“Is that what they call Modules here?” Arabel asked Idan.

Idan hadn’t fully understood the complex structure of the Nexus yet.

Fortunately, their System came to their rescue.

[The Core Module is a plot that is purchased once. After purchase, it is assigned to the Host and remains in his ownership as long as it is used for the purpose specified during registration. The core module does not require regular rent and is considered permanent ownership. However, the City’s System reserves the right to revoke it in the event of a gross violation of the rules of use or termination of the stated function.]

[A Slot Module is a leased plot. The host gets temporary access to this site for a regular fee. Until the lease expires, the land remains at the disposal of the Host. If the payment has not been made within the prescribed period, access to the slot may be suspended, and the module itself returned to the Nexus general fund or transferred to another applicant.]

“Dan, we have two Core Modules to choose from, which you received as a reward for defeating our avatars,” Arabel reminded with shining eyes.

“I know,” Idan nodded.

When Idan and Arabel were deciding in which of the five sectors to purchase two Core Modules, the System reminded them to first familiarize themselves with the rules of the Nexus.

“Let’s follow the advice of the System and study the rules.”

Following the advice of the System, they opened the “City Rules” item in the holographic console and were stunned to see a huge list of rules and restrictions.

“Look, Dan, it says here that the Nexus is not a sanctuary, and every Awakened One has a limited time here,” Arabel pointed out the rule of equivalent time.

“Yes, it seems like the longer you stay here, the more time you’ll need to spend in the outside world before returning to the Nexus again,” Idan agreed.

The Nexus is designed for short visits aimed at recovery, trade, training, and coordination. It should not become a permanent place of residence.

If an Awakened spends too much time in the Nexus, he may lose touch with the outside world and, consequently, with the responsibilities for which he received the power. Therefore, the city’s system has set a strict cycle: how much time you have spent inside, the same amount you have to live outside before you get access again.

This is not just a punishment, but a reminder that the Nexus serves as a support, not a substitute for life. When someone gets too attached to the Nexus and stops going out, the city’s system literally pushes them back into reality so that they don’t lose their role, purpose, and humanity.

Idan and Arabel learned from the rules that not every Awakened Person can access the Nexus.

Their status {A Regular Guest} gives them unlimited access to the entrance to the Nexus, but even for them there is a time limit on their stay.

In order for other Awakened Ones to enter the Nexus, they must first gain temporary access.

To gain permanent access, Awakened Ones need to either buy a Core module, rent a slot module, or purchase living space in a Residential Sector.

Without this, access to the Nexus will be limited, and each time the Awakened will have to seek access anew.

“I knew there were limits on the number of Core modules and Slot modules to purchase,” Idan said with slight irritation.

“It’s quite reasonable. Otherwise, the Awakened One, who has a lot of System Points, could have bought up all the available modules and established a monopoly,” Arabel remarked, trying to remain calm.

However, in addition to the restriction on the number of modules to be purchased, there were also restrictions related to the purchase itself. Not every Awakened One could purchase the module at will.

To rent or purchase a module, the Awakened must obtain a permit from the City’s System.

The awakened one must confirm that the selected module will be used for its intended purpose.

Buying a place in the Trade Sector involves opening a store, restaurant, representative office or other relevant facility.

And buying a place in the Residential sector requires actual temporary residence and recreation with special privileges.

The system does not allow empty possessions, and any module that is not used for its intended purpose is considered ineffective and must be checked.

If the owner does not show activity appropriate to his sector, his ownership rights may be restricted, suspended, or even revoked.

The Nexus needs movement, development and achievement of results. An empty space is not useful and therefore has no value.

Each module must serve the city, and each owner must prove his right to own specific actions.

Besides these rules, there were many others.

For example, there was a contract system under which ordinary beings could be hired as workers. Opening a store requires the presence of salespeople and other employees, and awakened ones, whose time is limited, may not always be present at work. Therefore, it was possible to attract additional staff.

After studying the rules and understanding some of the structure of the Nexus, Idan and Arabel began to look at Core Modules differently.

Their task was to select two Core Modules that would correspond to their activities.

The first thing that came to mind was a Simularium, ideal for the {Entertainment Sector}.

There was also the right to open their own auction house, which corresponded to the {Trading Sector}.

Arabel thought of her restaurant, which was now run by Sofia. Since Sofia was an Awakened one, she had the opportunity to purchase the module for the restaurant herself.

After some thought, Idan decided to study the cost of the modules and was shocked by their high price.

The modules were divided into three categories: small, medium and large.

The cost of the Slot Modules started from 5,000 System Points and reached 60,000 System Points.

But Core Modules cost from 100,000 to 500,000 System points.
