Chapter 1285: The Third Ascension Trial – “Arabel.”
Isenna.
Her daughter.
Her crying awakened her maternal feelings first, and then the rest of her personality.
With each newly awakened crystal, she slowly but surely regained a part of herself. She wasn’t collecting them; she was waking up.
Ignis.
Her son.
In the beginning, she didn’t even know who she was.
The desire to protect them. The desire to see them again. To feel the warmth of their bodies in her arms.
The fiery eyes of her daughter and the cold azure eyes of her son.
She longed to see them.
Each new desire awakened a new facet in her.
And finally, the part of her where love lived responded.
The desire to see him.
Who she didn’t know. Only the desire returned with the resonance of one of the crystals.
The crystals associated with him responded to this desire, piecing together “him.”
Suddenly, the “Crying” stopped.
And with it, the resonance died down.
She felt emptiness, followed by a quiet call. Complete peace, and she began to fall asleep.
When she was almost asleep, the “Crying” came back again. All the ice crystals responded to its call at the same time, and a bright pulse ran through them, amplifying the resonance and awakening new parts of her.
With each new awakened crystal, she became more and more whole.
The turning point came when she finally found out her name.
“Arabel.”
All the crystals responded to that name.
Her name is Arabel.
With this realization, “Crying” ceased to be the only source.
She found an “anchor” to hold onto, and all subsequent crystals also responded to that name.
The awakening could no longer be stopped.
But then “it” appeared.
Something that began to consume her parts one by one. And without them, she couldn’t complete her awakening. She found out her name, but she hadn’t found out “his” name yet.
She didn’t have eyes to see the darkness rapidly engulfing the snow-white mountain, strewn with its parts.
She was losing herself. Even the parts that she had awakened.
The fear of disappearing gripped her.
The darkness swallowed her whole.
There was silence.
The darkness tried to “eat” her, but she was too tough for it.
But she once again found herself in a state of serenity from which she could not get out on her own.
The darkness did not allow the “Crying” to reach her.
It seemed that she was destined to remain forever in this boundless darkness, immersed in eternal sleep.
But then she heard the faint echo of a scream. It was so familiar to her, that bird cry.…
Screeee…
And she responded to it call.
“Phoenix…”
She recognized that cry. Her own cry, which was lost a long time ago.
The fear of disappearing into nothingness made her use the echo of the scream as a resonance.
Screeee…
It would seem that there could be nothing in the darkness, but the cry of the phoenix echoed around, and the crystals hidden in the darkness began to respond to the call.
With each awakened crystal, the phoenix’s cry became louder and more piercing.
Finally, she remembered his name, Idan. Her husband and the father of her children.
Gradually, it began to dawn on her that she had forgotten about him, about her children, and even about herself.
Even now, when her consciousness had partially awakened, she couldn’t figure out where she was or what had happened to her. She didn’t know what had become of her body or why it was so dark around her.
She heard the cry of the phoenix.
And through the scream, all the crystals… No, all the parts of himself.
Arabel’s awakening was accompanied by many questions. But most importantly, she couldn’t pick up the pieces of herself. Without combining all the parts into a single whole, she was still in danger of losing herself again.
Especially when she felt as if some force was calling her to rest and sleep. Towards serenity and peace.
Only the cry of the phoenix, as well as the fear of forgetting about him, about her children and about herself, made her resist this call.
She wanted to see him, to see her children.
She wanted to scream to get him to help her, but she didn’t have the voice. Only the cry of the phoenix, resonating with her desire, resounded in the darkness.
In the midst of her despair, when most of the crystals had already awakened, she felt a subtle presence of something.
Something that was familiar and close to her.
At the same time, the opposite of the cry of the phoenix.
Like the cry of a phoenix, it seemed to be everywhere around her and nowhere at the same time.
She couldn’t see or hear that presence. But it was there, barely perceptible, almost indistinguishable from the silence of darkness.
Arabel didn’t know what it was.
However, there was something familiar about it. Something that every waking part of her yearned for.
She had nothing left but her own resonance in the form of a phoenix cry.
She concentrated and let the scream disperse into the darkness. At first, the response was barely noticeable—a faint vibration among the countless fragments.
But she didn’t back down.
She sent her resonance forward again and again, trying to grasp this unfamiliar feeling and understand what it was.
Gradually, a subtle connection stretched between them.
And then Arabel felt it — the light.
The presence of light in the heart of darkness is warm, deep, and surprisingly intimate. A light that reminded her of something long forgotten, but so important.
Another response.
Another familiar resonance.
“It’s… related to me.”
Arabel continued to reach out to it until she finally felt a part of another being in that light.
This is the light that belonged to him.
An echo of her husband. And it responded to her call.
At the same moment, the darkness above her shuddered.
Lightning rained down from the vast void.
She fell straight into the darkness, bursting it with a dazzling violet-white glow. The flash pierced through the darkness and reached the hidden crystals, causing them to respond one by one.
Arabel felt her resonance collide with a multitude of sparks that were desperately fighting the purple lightning.
The sparks responded to her resonance one by one and, without merging, became one.
Her resonance was what helped Idan’s consciousness finally find unity.
