Chapter 1292: Fishing?
Chapter 1292: Fishing?
Idan sat on the dock, slightly retreating from the edge, and watched the gently swaying float. It had already been an hour, but he still hadn’t managed to catch a single fish.
But that wasn’t what bothered him.
“Hmm…” It was only after taking a sip of water that he noticed that his hands were no longer shaking and, most importantly, his head was no longer buzzing.
He looked around and then, raising his head and closing his eyes, he looked at the two local celestial bodies that shone brightly high in the sky.
Lowering his gaze, he took out the brochure given to him by the girl at the counter from his pocket.
——————–
The Silver Whisperer
A small fish with translucent fins and a silver stripe along its sides. It is almost invisible underwater, but when caught, it makes a soft rustle, resembling a whisper.
Size: 15-25 centimeters.
The Amber Fin
A golden fish with fins that resemble thin plates of amber in the light. The longer it stays in the sun, the richer its color becomes.
Size: 25-40 centimeters.
Twilight Creeper
…
Mirror crucian
…
Iskrokhvost
…
——————–
Of the five fish species that could be caught here using only standard bait, Idan could count on catching a Silver Whisperer and an Amber Fin.
“Is this place really created just for fishing and recreation?” he wondered.
For the last hour, Idan had been expecting something to happen. He did not allow himself to think about the most obvious and simplest option — simple fishing and recreation.
Tearing his gaze away from the float, he looked at the other fishermen who were enthusiastically fishing nearby.
Most of them were alone, but some came in pairs or even in a group. However, there weren’t many of them.
No one interfered with each other, and if anyone talked, it was only in whispers.
A middle-aged man sat next to Idan, sipping a cold drink from time to time.
Idan began to watch them carefully as they fished. He repeated their actions: he updated the bait, which had long since disappeared, and threw the bait crumbs into the water.
Then he waited. The float bobbed smoothly on the surface of the smooth water.
Time passed, and suddenly the float trembled slightly. Idan straightened up and jerked the rod sharply.
Empty.
Just like Idan’s gaze.
But the bait was gone.
“Heh,” came a light chuckle from the neighbor.
Idan ignored him. He took a new bait, carefully fixed it on the hook and threw it into the water, not forgetting to throw some bait.
Without taking his eyes off the float, he sat back down in his seat.
Soon the float wavered, but this time Idan did not rush.
He waited.
Pom. Pom.
Small waves spread out from the twitching float until it stopped moving.
Idan pulled the rod, but to his disappointment, the hook was empty again.
“Pfft,” came the chuckle again.
But Idan didn’t give up. He repeated all his actions and continued to wait.
This time, he did not immediately pull again, nor did he wait for the float to completely sink under the water.
“Now,” he thought, and jerked the rod sharply. And then he felt resistance, and his eyes lit up.
Idan had no experience fishing, so he acted intuitively.
It seemed to him that the rod was about to break, and the line was about to break. With an ordinary fishing rod in his inept hands, this would have happened. But this one withstood the jerks, did not crack or give in, even when Idan acted with brute force rather than technique.
In the end, he caught his first fish in his life — an ordinary Silver Whisperer, the smallest possible, about 15 centimeters in length.
His heart was racing and he had a smile on his face.
It might not have looked so impressive in the eyes of others, but it was a completely new experience for Idan, and most importantly, he enjoyed it.
His neighbor, looking at his joy, shook his head with a slight smile and said, “Newbie.”
[Ding! Host, you have unlocked a new ability – Fishing 1 level.]
A System notification popped up in front of Idan.
“Fishing?” — Idan then stared in surprise at the fishing rod in his hands.
After transferring his first fish into a container, Idan quickly attached a new bait and threw the hook into the water.
Time passed, and while he was watching the float, he was constantly watching the other fishermen and even tried to copy their actions by slowly moving the rod and spinning the reel.
The remaining two hours flew by unnoticed. Idan wouldn’t have noticed this if the system hadn’t warned him.
During all this time, he caught only four fish. Three Silver Whisperers and one Amber Fin.
When Idan approached the building with his things, the girl working there was awake and smiled at him kindly.
“Are you leaving or do you want to extend your stay?” she asked.
“Can it be extended?” Idan asked in surprise.
“Of course. The standard time is three hours, but for System points it can be increased to eight,” the girl replied.
Idan thought about it. On the one hand, he wanted to stay here a little longer, but on the other, he wanted to get back as soon as possible.
He already knew that one hour in this place is equal to one minute in the Kingdom, and that three hours here only correspond to three minutes there.
“I’m leaving,” sighed Idan, making a decision, and put the rental equipment on the counter.
“It’s a pity,” the girl said softly and paid attention to the catch.
“Not bad for a beginner,” she added. “Will you take it with you or sell it?”
“Hmm…” Idan rubbed his chin. “I’ll take it with me.”
“Heh. Do you want to cook them for your wife?” She asked with a slight smile.
“Yes…” nodded Idan and froze. He looked at the girl, and she smiled back at him with her professional smile.
Idan hadn’t told her he was married. The rings on his hands did not indicate this. How did she know?
“Plop, pack the fish,” the girl asked, looking away.
Plop took the rental equipment and started tinkering with the fish.
The girl handed Idan something that looked like a coupon and said:
“Here is a gift from our institution for your first visit.”
“What is it?” Idan asked, not refusing the gift.
“It’s a one—time invitation,” the girl explained. “Give it to whoever you want to take with you next time, and he or she will appear here with you.”
“Is that possible?” — Idan was pleasantly surprised. He had already started thinking about how he could tell his wife about this place, and now, having an invitation, he could bring her with him next time.
“Of course it’s possible,” the girl replied. “With each visit, your privileges will grow, and exclusive items will appear in the local store, including the same invitations for one person or an entire group.”
Knock!
With a thud, Plop carefully placed the four fish Idan had caught, packed in a portable net, on the counter.
The fish were still alive and covered with some kind of strange liquid.
[Ding! Return to Host world in 10 seconds]

A warning popped up.
“Oh yes, my name is Margaret,” the girl finally introduced herself. “We look forward to your next visit to the Space of a Thousand Shores.”
“Nice to meet you, Margaret, and you, Plop,” Idan nodded, also exchanging nods with Plop, who nodded back with his big head.
And before Idan returned to his world, Margaret said:
“Oh yes, I forgot to warn you that the area will be completely different on your next visit, so be prepared for anything.”
“Huh?” — Idan didn’t have time to realize. The space around him distorted, and the next moment he was already in the living room of the Family Home, holding his fishing rod and fish net in his hands.
