Chapter 797: The "Zero" Host Of The Dark System
Chapter 797: The "Zero" Host Of The Dark System
As Arabel flew over the bright night capital, a light rain began to fall.
To hide from the raindrops, she created a shield of the water element around herself and soon found herself in the area of private homes.
Remembering roughly the location of the house she was looking for, Arabel found it without difficulty.
She remembered that she had once been here with her brother after the disaster and before Arslan became an Awakened One.
Even though she had only been here once, Arabel remembered that day perfectly.
Looking at the familiar house, she felt someone's presence below her, and without looking down, she knew who it was.
Below her, in the direction of this house, there was a young girl in the clothes of the Awakened Association. She had blonde hair and was holding an umbrella to get out of the rain.
Almost reaching the gate, the girl stopped, turned around and looked up, looking straight at where Arabel was hovering, hidden from the eyes of all living beings.
But the girl's eyes, dark as night, stared straight at her, as if ignoring all her concealment.
Without waiting for the girl to say anything, Arabel went downstairs and stood next to her. She stopped hiding and reversed her transformation into a Dark Valkyrie, returning to her true appearance.
"There you are," Darkia said with a smile, flashing the snow—white teeth of her new Host, over whom she controlled.
Arabel looked at the girl carefully, and she seemed a little familiar to her.
"Let's go, they're already waiting for us," Darkia said, opening the gate and passing through the fence.
Arabel followed her in silence, looking around with interest.
"Almost nothing has changed here," she noted.
When she reached a small house compared to the other houses around, Darkia rang the doorbell.
The door was opened by a 60-year-old woman with gray hair and blue eyes.
"Rina!" the woman exclaimed with joy when she saw Darkia.
"Rina?" — Arabel asked, turning to Darkia. And by matching a familiar name with an equally familiar appearance, she finally recognized this girl.
"Hello, Pamela," Darkia said with a smile, completely ignoring Arabel.
"And this..." said Pamela, noticing Arabel's presence.
Pamela froze when she saw the familiar red hair and azure eyes, as well as the features that could not be forgotten.
"Is that... Arabel?" — Pamela asked, not quite sure if she recognized her correctly.
"Yes, it's me," Arabel nodded back.
"So it's really you!" the woman exclaimed with sincere joy. She came forward to hug Arabel, but Arabel took a step back, avoiding it.
Pamela, noticing her reaction, stopped and said with a slight smile:
"Ah, I'm sorry."
"Oh, it's okay," Arabel replied, smiling and adding: "I am also very glad to see you in good health, great-aunt."
The woman standing in front of Arabel was her great—aunt, the younger sister of her maternal grandmother.
Today, when Arabel was talking to her mother, she showed interest in her grandmother not only out of curiosity — to find out if her mother inherited her character from her. But also because of the information received from Darkia about the place of residence of her "zero" Host.
"Oh, come on in, don't stand here," Pamela said, remembering that it was raining outside.
Darkia, as if she had entered her own house, confidently stepped inside and, going to the stairs, began to climb up. Pamela, who was watching Darkia's actions, didn't say a word, as if she was used to it.
Halfway to the stairs, Darkia stopped and turned around.
"Come on, Arabel," she called, noticing that Arabel was still standing at the entrance.
"Go, dear," — Pamela said to Arabel.
Arabel glanced at Pamela and, with a slight nod, followed Darkia to the second floor.
After going up to the second floor, Darkia confidently walked down the corridor and entered one of the bedrooms. Arabel followed her slowly, and on the way she noticed blue eyes looking at her curiously from the ajar door of one of the rooms.
"Timothy?" whispered Arabel, and the image of her little second cousin appeared in her mind.
If she wasn't mistaken, he should be about 14 years old now.
Arabel approached the room Darkia had entered and stopped at the open door.
"Who would have thought that she would be the "zero" Host of the Dark System?" Arabel said with a light sigh, looking around the room belonging to the young girl.
The room was small, but clean, with a minimum of things.
Arabel looked around the room and noticed the two girls. One of them was sitting quietly on the bed with her eyes closed, and the other was standing next to her.
The girl sitting on the bed had long brown hair and a very thin, weak body.
Sensing Arabel's presence, she opened her eyes, and two crystal-white eyes shot towards the door.
At the same time, Darkia turned to Arabel, smiling, and her completely dark eyes also turned in her direction.
Those crystal eyes of the girl were still the same as they were on that very day.
"Samantha," — Arabel said the girl's name.
The girl shuddered slightly, and her face frowned.
Arabel's voice sounded very familiar to the girl.
After searching through her memories for a bit, she remembered who the voice belonged to.
"So it's you... Arabel," she said, and closed her eyes with a sigh.
An awkward silence fell between them.
Arabel turned her gaze towards Darkia, trying to find an answer to the question of why her so-called "zero" Host was still blind. Couldn't she find someone who could give her back her lost eyes?
"Dad should be back soon," Samantha said. "As soon as he arrives, we'll be ready."
"Okay," Darkia replied and left the room, leaving Arabel and Samantha alone.
"It's been more than two years..." said Arabel.
"Yes, it's been over two years since Victoria committed suicide," Samantha nodded, and silence fell between them again, as if they were both honoring the memory of this girl named Victoria.
"Victoria," — Arabel whispered, remembering the cheerful and loving girl.
The girl who was in love with Arabel's younger brother, and the girl who was Arslan's ex-fiancee and who committed suicide.
