Chapter 1607: Suspicion

Chapter 1607: Suspicion

The progress of the war went smoothly for both sides. Due to their overwhelming numbers, the demons were able to continue pushing forward deeper and deeper into the kingdom.

Humans managed to use their fortresses to stop a portion of the demons, but with that number, it was impossible to completely stop them perfectly.

However, the fortresses killed more demons than the demons killed humans. Still, the demons simply had blood to spare.

The demons continued onward, while the remaining demons were tiring the people out until they could kill them all.

For those at the very front, it would be a matter of time before they started falling.

They were the first ones to encounter the demons. And there was no way to reinforce them.

However, the soldiers fought fiercely, knowing that they would die if they didn't fight.

Oscar looked forward.

"Sir. Demons here have been suppressed. Shall we head to another location?" A knight asked.

Oscar remained silent for some time.

"Sir?" The soldier tilted his head in confusion.

Oscar closed his eyes, falling into a deeper thought.

The soldier started to worry. They were in an advantageous position after they killed so many demons. So, Oscar should be happy with their progression.

Yet, what he showed was of concern.

What he didn't know was that Oscar had found a problem that Noel had found before the war even happened.

Oscar glanced around. They had enough airships, so it was possible to divert some of them.

After some thoughts, Oscar couldn't help but say, "We need to send a reinforcement."

"Reinforcement?" The soldier was confused. Why would they need reinforcements? They hadn't even been attacked.

Oscar shouted, "Milfa! I need you to do something for me."

Milfa, who was commanding another battleship, immediately appeared before him. "What? What do you need, Commander?"

Oscar raised one finger. "I want you to lead three airships with minimum personnel."

"Minimum personnel? What are you trying to do?"

"If we continue doing this, the situation will become extremely dangerous. The losses will also be much bigger." Oscar recalculated the situation. "I want you to head to the capital city right now and discuss with those protectors regarding the reinforcement.

"If we let them be, the people on the front line will be crushed by their number.

"Meanwhile, they can't fully stop the demons either, so it's best not to let them get destroyed.

"If they are able to hold on for some time, they might be able to attack the demons from behind."

"!!!" Milfa got the picture in her mind. Since the demons couldn't be stopped, it was better to send reinforcements directly to those on the front lines. This way, they could be replaced with fresh fighters.

The tired ones would replenish their energy and stamina before fighting again. As the demons continued deeper and deeper, the demons that stayed behind to destroy the fortress would eventually run out.

With this strategy, the people on the front line wouldn't die, and with the demons going deeper, those people could turn around and strike them from behind.

This pincer attack would allow the battle to end quicker and more lives to be saved.

However, it was a risky operation due to the number of demons.

Oscar raised one finger. "If possible, we'll bring these airships even higher into the sky. This will reduce the potential of them being able to reach us. So, the troops you will bring have to be good at fighting in the air."

"Understood. I will head there right now." Now that she understood her role, she immediately proceeded.

While Oscar was focusing on one thing, Anna was worrying about another.

She had been quiet the whole time as she continued staring in the same direction.

Laufey suddenly returned to the airship and reported, "There are no ancient demons in sight for the time being. I believe we will find one soon. But we can probably leave it to Oscar and the airship."

Anna usually replied to him, but for some reason, she had been awfully quiet.

"Anna?" Laufey frowned. "Did something happen? Do you notice anything?"

Anna glanced at him before shaking her head. "Nothing. I just feel something weird, but I can't draw a conclusion yet."

Laufey felt a bit suspicious. Before going, Noel told him about this exact thing.

"Uncle."

"Yes? Do you need anything?" Laufey asked. "Don't worry. You've given me this life. The demons won't be able to do anything to your wife unless they step over my dead body."

Noel shook his head. "No. I'm not worried about it. Rather, there is something else."

"Hmm?" Laufey thought it was a strategy, considering it came from Noel.

To his surprise, Noel was talking about Anna. "Anna has an instinct that is much sharper than anyone else in the world. Her instinct might even be sharper than that of animals'.

"Someone like me might be a bit skeptical about it, as it's borderline superstition. However, I know how powerful her instinct is.

"She might not realize it, but you should observe her and don't let anything slip by, not even the smallest thing."

Laufey didn't understand what he was talking about, but these words had been stuck in his mind for a while.

Noel should hate this kind of thing, as he was more comfortable calculating everything. Yet, for a person like him to trust her this much meant her instinct was so powerful that he couldn't ignore it anymore.

While remembering this message, Laufey nodded to Anna. "I understand. If you need anything, please call me without hesitation."

"Yeah. Thank you for your hard work." Anna waved her hand.

Laufey noticed that Anna was still looking at the distance, so Laufey quietly moved to Oscar's airship.

"Oscar," Laufey whispered, standing behind Oscar quietly. To avoid anyone finding him, he made sure to align his body with Oscar.

"!!!" Oscar was startled, but having a friend like him and Dimitri made him accustomed to stealth. So, he regained his calm immediately. "What?"

"Something is going on. There is no basis yet, but what would happen if there is something suspicious in the southwest direction? Maybe an attack or something? Even the wildest imagination is fine."

"The southwest?" Oscar was confused about why Laufey had asked such a thing, but he still recalled the map and imagined what would happen.

It was only at this time that he realized something.

"!!!"
