Chapter 1609: Reinforcements
Chapter 1609: Reinforcements
"Krein has fallen."
"Sandtern Town has fallen!"
The reports were flooding into the palace.
Ramuer was gritting his teeth. ’We’re losing our ground. At this rate, the Atracaeca Kingdom can’t last for too long.’
Hulbert was staring at the map intensely, moving the pieces according to the report. Even he thought the same.
The only saving grace was the western front. Thanks to the Ardagan family and the Demon Banner Army, the situation over there was handled pretty well.
But the southern front was having a hard time.
Suddenly, a soldier entered and reported out loud, "Report! Demon Adjudicator Captain Milfa wishes for a meeting with His Majesty."
"What is this? We are busy as it is." Hulbert shouted back.
"I’m not entirely sure, Sir. However, she claimed that she brought a message directly from Commander Oscar. In addition, she brought three airships with her."
"!!!" Hulbert fell silent.
"Hulbert. I don’t think it hurts to hear her opinion. They have met up with Anna Stargaze, so there might be something else that we don’t know." Ramuer spoke.
Hulbert couldn’t help but agree. "Alright. Send her in."
"Y-Yes, sir!" The soldier hurriedly exited and brought Milfa into the hall.
Hulbert straightened his back. "As you can see right now, we are not in the position to take care of pleasantries. I’m sorry if I come off rude, but please state your business right away, Captain Milfa."
Milfa nodded her head. She walked to the table that had been laid out in front of the throne.
"Protector Hulbert, Your Majesty." Milfa politely nodded to her as a greeting before going straight to the matter. "Looking at the current situation, there is a way for us to turn the situation around and finish this war as quickly as possible."
"!!!" Ramuer widened his eyes in shock.
"What did you say?" Hulbert gasped. He thought he had heard it wrong.
Milfa pointed to the first defense line. "The demons are coming from the outside and gradually encroaching on this land.
"It is hard to handle them, but we might be able to hit them from behind."
"From behind, you say?" Hulbert’s body shook. "If there is such a method, I would love to hear about it. You should know there’s basically no way to hit them from behind.
"When the demons attack, they will destroy the cities or fortresses along the way. We can’t exactly go around them as well. Not only does it waste our time, but it also makes those people unable to participate in this war during the time they’re moving."
Milfa smiled. "That’s indeed true. They’re gnawing one city after another. However, most demons are passing through the city and continuing to another city, no?"
"That is true, but they have left behind enough demons to ensure the complete annihilation of that city."
"Yes. What if I say there is a method to make sure the cities in the first defense line remain standing?"
"!!!" Those words sounded like thunder reverberating in his ears.
"Hulbert?" Ramuer’s expression turned solemn.
"That might be possible. If those fortresses can hold on, they can recover and hit the demons from behind."
"Then..."
Hulbert shook his head. "Unfortunately, it might sound ideal, but it’s impossible. The biggest factor in this is ensuring the number.
"There’s practically no way for us to ensure a high survival rate."
Milfa smiled. "That’s why I come here, Protector Hulbert."
"You? Are you saying you can make it possible?"
Milfa nodded. "My commander has received additional airships, so we have some airships to spare for this operation."
"Airships..." Hulbert fell into deep thought. It felt like an idea was gradually forming in his mind.
Milfa didn’t have time to wait, so she immediately laid out the plan. "First, we will bring reinforcements from this place. Then, we will fly as high as possible and transport them to the cities on the front line.
"Those cities will have fresh troops to fight back. Since the demons leave in numbers to devour the city, they will have a hard time when suddenly, the number becomes insufficient.
"With a proper reorganization and arrangement, we can increase the survival rate. Then, with this number, we will have them turn around and attack the demons from behind.
"We will then set up another defense line to keep them in one place and pincer them from two directions. What do you think about this plan?"
Ramuer dropped his jaw. "Hulbert!"
Hulbert gulped down. "Yes, Your Majesty. This plan might work. No, this is the only way for it to work."
Milfa raised two fingers. "However, we have two conditions."
"Two requests?" Hulbert wondered if Milfa was going to extort them in this desperate time. But it was better than having their kingdom destroyed.
Milfa reassured them with a smile as she explained the condition. "First, we need three great protectors to ensure the safety of the transports. There are flying demons after all. It’s best to have archers to help as well, but with our protective runes, it should be fine for the time being.
"However, it’s good not to activate the protective runes so as to conserve some fuel since we are going to go back and forth.
"The second condition is to get as many demon crystals as possible so that the airships can continue flying."
It wasn’t an extortion. This was a reasonable request to help the Atracaeca Kingdom.
Still, there was one thing he was confused about. Hulbert asked, "Three great protectors? Aren’t you going to personally lead this?"
"I will for a bit, but I’m assuming there will be an ancient demon or two. I have to handle them. So, I won’t be with you all the time.
"As long as I can witness a couple of successes of this operation, I will be satisfied and hand over the command of these three airships to you for the duration of the war."
"!!!" Hulbert was shocked. He quickly turned solemn and gave a nod to Ramuer.
Ramuer immediately stood up and declared, "We will accept your request. Please arrange it so that the reinforcements can be sent as quickly as possible."
