Chapter 457- [Gleaming State]
Chapter 457: Chapter 457- [Gleaming State]
That side needed his help, but what about the other?
Stark turned his attention toward the area where the black haired boy was fighting. The next second, his eyes opened wide as he tried to mask his surprise.
Kevin did not need his help. No, far from it; he was handling the beast without any problem all by himself. In fact, he even looked all relaxed as if the monster was no big deal.
"What’s going on? How is he able to dodge like that?"
The way Kevin was moving around, it was as if he could see the attacks coming before they were even made. Not only that, his swing, his breathing, and his footsteps were absurdly sharp and synchronized, so much so that even Stark could not see through them at all.
That was not all; the most surprising and baffling of all was the way the guy was neutralizing all of the monster’s attacks.
The corrosive poison that the stinger of the Manticore’s tail was laced with could even melt down tempered steel. Yet every time it clashed against the crimson sword, the poison magically disappeared.
What was going on? Why was the Manticore not using one of its most powerful moves?
Just as those thoughts arrived in his mind, he saw Kevin open a large gash on the demonic beast’s forelegs.
ROARR... The beast cried out and lost its balance, stumbling forward. There was a putrid smell of flesh burning.
When Stark focused his eyes on the wound, to his surprise, he realized that the beast was suffering from the corrosion of the poison. Something that should be its own forte.
This!! Just what was going on?
Unaware of the other party’s surprise, Kevin continued to fight the Manticore. Well, the fight was more or less decided the moment he entered the [Gleaming State].
The mysterious state that allowed him to see red, gleaming lines which represented the enemy’s weakness and attack pattern.
Ever since that incident inside the vault, he felt he had grasped another new ability. The [Gleaming State], which he previously could only enter during battles of high tension and life and death battles, was now something he could enter willingly.
This new ability not only allowed him to predict attacks and weaknesses of his enemies, much like the transcendent state of [Heart of the Sword], but also temporarily boosted his overall physical attributes a stage higher.
That is to say, right now he was fighting with the physical stats of a knight who just entered the realm of level 6.
Of course, he was far from being a True Knight; nevertheless, the abilities of the sword and his own put him amongst the powerhouses of level 6.
Before long, the Manticore, who could not use its greatest power, lay before him, downed and defeated.
Huff... Huff... Kevin huffed; for some reason, he was not as tired as he believed he would be after activating [Tiamat]’s Devour ability and even the [Gleaming State].
"That is because my powers are no longer draining your stamina. Unlike before, where you didn’t have the Dragon Heart, I had to use your stamina as the fuel to activate the abilities. Right now, it is offset by the Aether"...
"However, your stat is still too low to maintain my powers for too long. Right now, you can only enter the [Gleaming State]
for five minutes before you run out of gas. If you want to stay in that state longer, you’ll need to raise your stat."Kevin nodded his head; no wonder he still had ample energy even after finishing a demonic beast ranked A- class. Although he understood [Tiamat]’s words, there was still one big question to be answered.
"How do I increase my Aether Stat?"
Unlike the other stats, which could gradually be increased with training, he had no idea how to go about increasing his new stat.
"That... you can only leave to fate." Even [Tiamat] did not have the answer.
Kevin did not waste time thinking too deeply about it and joined Stark in finishing the remaining Manticore.
BAM... The large body of the beast succumbed to the ground.
Huff... Huff... The two young men responsible for felling the beast stood not far, catching their breath.
"You have really become powerful," Stark spoke, glancing at Kevin. Just one year ago, the guy was so unremarkable that he could not even catch his eye. Now, not only did the other party stand at the same level as him, but their accomplishment had reached a point where his name even came out of the mouth of their commander.
Earlier, when he said that he remembered Kevin from the Magic Knight Entrance Exam, it was a lie. The truth was that he had forgotten about the latter completely until a few days ago, when his name came out of the mouth of their commander Brutus, the knight he respected the most.
"I just got back after meeting with Her Highness. It appears that the incident inside the vault has been resolved."
The place was inside an inn owned by their knight order in the capital.
"Heh, was it Commander Herman who resolved it?" A Flamekeeper asked.
"Marquis Herman is strong; however, I don’t think it was his power that sealed the Abyssal Compass. Her Highness told me that the Temple of Light also responded to the emergency call. It is most likely the work of Reinhardt."
Brutus spoke while grinning widely. As knights who had both reached the rank of heroes, they were friends and rivals at the same time.
"Hoh, it’s the Temple of Light again. I heard they were the escorts for their Majesties while they attended the marriage incident back in the Kingdom of Aetherion. Seems like they have been busy this year. The rumors about them just won’t die down."
"Right, Her Majesty also mentioned a couple of young buds from the Temple of Light who were of great help and had all the makings of future great knights. Hmm, I can’t remember all the names, but I do remember one. That boy named Kevin?"
