Chapter 458- Searching the Palace
Chapter 458: Chapter 458- Searching the Palace
"Kevin? Who is that?" The Flamekeeper questioned.
As the topic was about future knights of the realm, Stark, who was present there at that time, couldn’t help but find himself getting drawn to their conversation.
"It’s that boy who got no invite from any of the knight orders from last year’s Magic Knight Entrance Exam. Since Reinhardt picked that boy, I had my eyes on the latter. Given how highly Her Majesty praised him, it turns out the boy was really a diamond in the rough. Just that we all were unable to see it."
It was at that moment, Stark remembered who the person they were talking about was.
From being unassuming to standing out even in one of the Seven Great Knight Orders, the guy had grown a lot.
Stark took pride in the fact that he was able to reach level 5 from 4 in the short span of a year. Yet in front of the other, his accomplishment fell a little short.
"Haha, thanks. You are powerful too." Kevin replied, scratching his hair.
Looking at the two young men conversing in front of the large, defeated body of the Manticore was the group of snobbish squires. They were sprawled on the ground while making silly expressions.
"These guys are monsters."
The others nodded their heads. Not only did these two defeat the Manticores they were fighting, but they had enough energy to defeat another after that.
Were they really squires?
"You all, we don’t have time to just sit back and relax. We need to find the anomaly in this place."
[You don’t... need to search blindly.]
Just when Kevin and the others were preparing to move again, [Tiamat]’s voice sounded inside his head.
"What do you mean?"
Since the sword was still recovering, it rarely spoke to him. The times that it did, it would only be when it was absolutely necessary.
[The compass has not gained its full strength. Its master is most probably still in their premature stage of awakening. There are a lot of openings to exploit. Search for the core needle in the middle of the city. It is always located in the most important place. Every floor has a core needle that is pointing north. If you can disturb the needle, you can undo the effects of the floor. Be careful of the...].
Having expended all of its energy, the sword became silent once again. It was unknown what it wanted to say in the end.
"I’ll search around the residential district. You two search the park. If you find anything unusual..."
"There is no need."
Stark, who was instructing the snobbish squires, was interrupted by Kevin.
"What do you mean by no need?"
"Um, I know where the anomaly is. It’s in the center of the city. There is a needle that we need to disrupt."
Everyone looked at him with strange eyes.
"How do you know that?"
"I... I cannot explain the reason, but please believe me." He can’t possibly say that it was the sword that told him.
Stark nodded his head. "Alright, we’ll do as you say."
"Eh? We aren’t going to question why he knows that?"
"There is no time for that. Even as we speak, we are slowly becoming weaker. The faster we resolve this, the better. Right?"
"Yeah," Kevin nodded.
[Tiamat] did say that disturbing the needle would remove the effects of the floor. And so, with the goal of protecting the capital, the squires moved.
On their way, they spotted a couple of figures in a fierce fight against demonic beasts. While Kevin and Stark wanted to help them, they had their hands occupied. The sooner they found the source of the disturbance and resolved it, the sooner this madness would stop.
The steps of the squires led them directly to the royal palace, the center of the city.
"Wait, don’t tell me the needle is there?" Stark pointed at the beautiful mansion in front of them.
Kevin nodded his head. Usually, they would not even be able to step inside such a place unless invited. However, today they would have to break into such a stately place uninvited.
Well, the situation was as one could see, so it couldn’t be helped. Coincidentally, on their way, they also met up with Gwen and the others.
"What are you doing here?" Kevin questioned.
"I thought searching the city from the center would be a good idea," Gwen answered.
It was the same for others too. Their thought process might be different. However, their paths all led them here.
"What about you? Why are you here?"
And so, Kevin explained what he knew.
"I see, so we just need to disrupt that needle, right?" As they were already used to his antics, they did not doubt his words.
Kevin nodded. He then suddenly remembered the words that [Tiamat] couldn’t finish. Well, since it was something she did not add ahead, it couldn’t be too important. Or so he thought.
.
With the thing they needed to search clear, everyone got moving again. The Royal Palace in front of them.
"Stop, this is the Royal Palace. Those without permission are not allowed to enter."
While most of the royal guards were teleported away, the low level ones still remained. Loyal to the fault, they continued to guard the palace even when the whole city was dragged into a mess.
"We are knights from the Temple of Light and Blazing Sun. Open the gates, we need to search the Royal Palace that is causing the disturbance all around the capital."
The guards looked at each other before shaking their heads. "Even if that is the case, this is the Royal Palace; we cannot just allow you in without verifying your words. Wait here while we search the place."
Time was of the essence here; if they waited here, with the tower continuously spawning demonic monsters, the lives of many here would be endangered.
"I’m sorry for doing this." Kevin jumped and quickly knocked out one of the guards.
He was not alone; Gwen, Rolan, Stark, and the others did the same.
