Chapter 623- Gorgon Snake & The Trial Of Truth
Chapter 623- Gorgon Snake & The Trial Of Truth
Faint golden lines marked its body, glowing with ancient power. Its eyes glowed with a hypnotic pink light, and two golden horns curved backward on top of its head like the crown of a king.
When the creature moved, you could feel it in your bones, the nobility that it exuded. This was the Royal Class, Sacred Tier... the Gorgon Snake.
A beast above even the High Tier.
The Gorgon Snake raised its head and glanced at everyone. Those near it hurriedly avoided looking at it.
Although they didn’t know why, they could instinctively feel that they should not look at it directly.
The presence radiating from the Gorgon Snake was overwhelming, like being stared at by an ancient predator of the wild.
The beast swept its gaze over the knights across the training field, then finally set its eyes on Reinhardt. It opened its mouth and flicked its tongue.
"Wielder of the Primordial Light... Why have you summoned me?"
The voice that came from the snake was feminine and gentle. However, there was a trace of hidden danger in it.
Although the Gorgon Snake addressed Reinhardt with respect, there was no fear in its tone. Only dignity and pride.
"I did not summon you." He folded his arms and gestured with his chin toward Silvia, standing in the middle of the array. "The one who summoned you is her."
The serpent’s gaze slowly shifted and landed on Silvia. Immediately afterward, its eyes narrowed into a dangerous arc.
"You dare summon me by force, human?" it hissed. "I will eat you... shaa..."
As one of the ruler class Sacred Tier beasts, the pressure coming from the Gorgon Snake was easy to imagine.
Even the powerful knights of the Temple of Light, who had faced countless demons and beasts, instinctively stepped back.
As for Silvia, in the face of such power, she did not move and faced the creature without fear.
"You are my Divine Beast," she said steadily. "I will summon you as many times as I need to."
Her voice was firm, without a ripple. It needs to be mentioned that the thing in front of her was no projection like last time, but an actual, real Royal Class Sacred Tier beast.
Yet despite that, she stood before it without flinching. Reinhardt couldn’t help but nod at the girl’s courage.
"Hmph." The Gorgon Snake gave a low snort. "I have not recognized you. Hoping to become my master is plain foolishness, human. Give up."
Despite the rejection and contempt, Silvia did not give up easily.
"I will not," she replied. "If I must fight you... then I will."
"What did you say... shaa?" The Gorgon Snake’s eyes flared as it flicked its tongue threateningly.
Watching their exchange, Reinhardt decided to intervene. He stepped between the two and spoke.
"Gorgon Snake, as the ruler of serpent‑type beasts, I know that your choice of master is naturally not ordinary. But Silvia is not ordinary either. She is the most talented knight under my command. I want you to give her a fair chance. Otherwise, as she said... she will fight you."
Saying that, he stared directly into the eyes of the creature.
The Gorgon Snake did not dare stare at Reinhardt for too long. It shifted its eyes and studied Silvia again.
For a moment, its long tongue flicked through the air. Then it spoke again.
"Hmph, I am not afraid to fight a mere human. However... since the Wielder of the Primordial Light is asking me this... I will give you face. Let me see how talented she truly is. She must pass my... Trial of Truth."
At the end of its words, the Gorgon Snake’s eyes narrowed cunningly.
Trial of Truth!
The moment Reinhardt heard those words, his expression changed.
"No matter how you see it, this is excessive," he said. "You should think about your status, Gorgon Snake. Giving such a trial is nearly the same as killing her."
Reinhardt’s expression grew serious. However, before he could continue further, Silvia, standing behind him, stepped forward.
"It’s fine, Commander. I will take the trial. I will make this beast recognize me."
Silvia stared straight at the Gorgon Snake and declared firmly.
"Are you sure, Silvia? Think carefully. The Trial of Truth that the Gorgon Snake mentioned... is not simple. It takes place on the Island of Exile."
Others might not know what kind of trial it was, but with his [Heaven’s Memory], he knew perfectly well.
"If you are unfortunate... you might never return. You may become a statue... forever."
He told her everything he knew. Yet despite his warning, she still decided to go through with it.
Silvia did not hesitate. Her decision had already been made.
"I understand, Commander. But I will still do it."
The Gorgon Snake watched her. Then, for the first time, it smiled. It very much liked Silvia’s attitude. Though recognizing her was another thing.
"Very well, girl. Step forward."
The Gorgon Snake’s eyes glowed, and the mist around it instantly began swirling violently. Sparks of lightning crackled through the air, and before long, a glowing teleport gate formed within the fog.
"The Island of Exile lies beyond it. The moment you step through the gate, the Trial of Truth will begin."
Silvia nodded, checked her equipment, and then proceeded forward without fear.
Just as she was about to step into the gate, a hurried voice rang out.
"WAIT!"
Silvia turned her head to see Vangeance running toward the circle.
"Just wait a moment."
Standing beside her, he took a few deep breaths, then spoke out his intention.
"I’m going too."
His words surprised Silvia for a second, before a smile appeared on her pretty face.
Seeing that everyone was looking at him, his face turned red, and he hastily made some excuse on the spot.
"Were you trying to become stronger without me? The Trial of Truth sounds fun. Let me on it too."
Silvia had helped him immensely during his Trial. Without her, he might not have completed his level‑up so easily. It was only fair for him to return the favor. And besides... she was his friend.
"That’s fine, right, Boss?" he added, glancing at Reinhardt.
Reinhardt nodded his head.
The Gorgon Snake turned its crimson eyes toward Vangeance and studied him carefully. Then, as if sensing something, its eyes sharpened.
"You... have been marked by Burma," it hissed. "I will not allow you to set foot in my territory."
At a glance, it instantly knew the Divine Beast Vangeance had affinity with. And perhaps it did not have a good relationship with that beast; its refusal was quite vehement.
But Vangeance did not back down.
To make things troublesome for the Gorgon Snake, several more figures stepped forward.
They were none other than Kevin, Gwen, Rolan, and Delicia. The usual group.
Hearing how dangerous the trial was and that Elder Sister Silvia was trying to go alone, they had made up their minds and rushed toward the array.
"If Elder Sister is going, then so are we."
"That’s right, we’re not letting her go alone in this dangerous trial. We’ll help her pass it."
Kevin and Gwen spoke their minds.
The Gorgon Snake looked at the group of young knights who had stepped forward. Whether it was the previous boy or the ones now standing before it, none of them were ordinary.
Each of them carried the faint mark of a Divine Beast. And not just any beasts, but beings whose presence and origins were powerful enough to rival its own.
If these brats ended up dying, those Divine Beasts would surely be enraged.
A faint irritation appeared in the Gorgon Snake’s eyes, and for the first time since appearing, the royal serpent felt something like a headache forming.
Its gaze shifted toward Reinhardt. Clearly, it thought the current situation had something to do with this man.
However, the latter simply shrugged his shoulders, as if to say it had brought this upon itself.
The serpent hissed its tongue menacingly, trying to intimidate the brats. But it didn’t seem to have any effect.
In the end, the Gorgon Snake had to relent.
"Fine, go. All of you. But do not blame me if you die."
Silvia looked at her teammates, smiled, and stepped inside the portal. Behind her, Kevin, Gwen, Delicia, and the others followed.
One by one, they disappeared into the glowing gate. The mist swallowed them.
With Silvia and the others gone, the Gorgon Snake did not stay for long. It glanced at Reinhardt and gave a faint bow before disappearing into the mist.
The Divine Beast was gone, and the training ground soon returned to its usual state.
Reinhardt stood in his place and stared at the empty space where the group had disappeared.
"What happens next depends on their luck. And their determination to overcome what awaits them."
Despite the dramatic event, the morning training continued. Reinhardt helped the ones having trouble acquiring the two fundamental skills and the [Divine Beast Summoning] skill.
.
After the morning training, he headed for his office.
Now, the newly appointed Viscount of Snowpoint City, Reinhardt’s responsibilities did not lessen.
