Chapter 680: THE GLOWING NECKLACE
Chapter 680: THE GLOWING NECKLACE
My feet felt heavy as they guided me through the corridors.
Every step echoed too loudly in my ears.
"Your majesty," the man said again, gesturing for me to walk ahead of him.
I hated the word.
It felt foreign.
Too heavy.
Too dangerous.
I still wondered how insane this was.
A group of wolves in the distant lands committing treason by calling me their majesty.
It made no sense.
Perhaps they were all insane.
I suspected it.
And all I had to do was play along until I could find my way out of here.
Or better still, uncle I saw my uncle Aiden and he would help me out of this.
Hopefully he was nothing like Bale.
I clutched my cloak tighter around myself, my other hand instinctively resting over my stomach as if I could shield my child from whatever awaited me.
We passed through halls carved from dark stone, lit by torches that hissed softly as we moved. Wolves lined the walls.
Some, some robed, all watching me with an intensity that made my skin crawl.
Not curiosity.
Recognition.
That frightened me more than chains ever could.
"Stop calling me that," I said finally, my voice tight. "I don’t know what game you’re playing, but I’m not royalty."
The man glanced back at me, then slowed his pace.
"This is no game," he replied calmly. "And if you were not who we believe you to be, you would not have made it past the healer’s door."
My heart thudded painfully.
"You mean the woman who slapped me?" I snapped.
He paused and everyone else stopped.
He slowly turned to look at me and then his hands reached out to my cheek.
"May I?" He asked before his fingers touched them.
I gave a slight shrug and then he very gently caressed the place where the imprint lay.
Then he looked at the stern cold faced Healer before turning back to me.
"She did this to you your majesty?" He asked me.
I felt a chill in bones once I heard him refer to me as his majesty.
I wanted to tell myself that they were all insane.
That they were all mad wolves who were times fifty worse than Otto worse.
But I didn’t.
I kept my mouth shut.
I didn’t say a word to him, my eyes simply diverted healer who stood with her face emotionless.
"My apologies." he said and then he snapped his fingers at healer.
She came right to his very before in a matter of minutes.
And then it happened too fast.
Before I could say a word, he smacked her right across the face.
Except it wasn’t his palm.
He had so expertly and quickly shifted his hands to his massive wolf claws before reverting back.
You would have never believed he had even shifted if you didn’t see the red blood lines on her face.
I jerked back impulsively, taken aback by what had hit transpired.
"You wound apologize to her majesty." He told her with a stern and yet firm voice that commanded authority.
She turned to me and bowed, I wanted to take another step back but the guards were right behind me.
There was nowhere to run.
"Forgive me for my foolishness your majesty." She apologized.
I looked around and I saw they all had their eyes watching me.
Waiting for me to pass judgement.
Waiting for me to sever her head or forgive her.
I didn’t like the power being handed to me so callously.
It made me sick to my stomach.
I swallowed hard and nodded at her. "It’s fine."
She slowly rose up and walked back to her place at the back of the line.
"Once again my apologies." He said with a smile that scared me. "It will not happen again. She would still be punished later. We must continue."
And with that he resumed walking ahead, forcing me to follow along like an obedient puppy.
By the time we reached the grand foyer where the large painting of the man hung of the wall, what seemed like all the servants were standing, waiting.
I was repulsed.
My heart was racing so fast as they had their eyes on me.
In their eyes, I saw hope.
Hope for what?
Perhaps I was simply imagining it.
Eventually I was brought to stand in front of a large throne.
It was old and unlike nothing I had ever seen.
The artistic work on it was elegant and the cusion itself seemed so soft.
It was placed right under the large portrait of the man.
"We have been waiting for you for a very long time your majesty." I blinked.
They were staring at me as if waiting for me to perform some sort of miracle.
"I think you have the wrong person." I said no longer able to keep this up.
He walked up to me very slowly, his boots in rhythm with his footsteps.
Then he came to a halt and before I could stop him, he had his had at the front bodice of my dress.
I gasped but he simply pulled my necklace by the gold chain until the pendant revealed itself.
I wanted to snatch it from his grasp but I wisely held myself back.
He undid the screws holding the locket in place and then the locket fell to the floor in a clank clank sound.
He reveled my emerald necklace as he placed it softly on my palm.
"Don’t do anything to it." I warned him over-protectively without thinking.
He rose a brow.
And then all of a sudden, the necklace that stayed glowing in his palm.
I was stunned.
I looked down at it to be sure I was seeing well.
The illumination of the green necklace was across his face.
He stepped aside letting the necklace rest on my chest.
He motioned go the throne where at its very center, an emerald stone illuminated just like mine.
They were glowing at the same frequency.
What I did not know, was that the pieces of emerald Queen Rose had, was equally glowing.
