The Alpha's Unwanted Bride

Chapter 718: A RESTLESS MOTHER

Chapter 718: A RESTLESS MOTHER

Aria watched the man as he struggled to rise.

She held the baby to her chest as he coughed up blood.

She knew that this was the man she had initially seen in the village.

The very same one whom she had slapped at the market.

knowing what she knew, seeing what she had seen.

The man who had viciously attacked her whilst the baby wept.

Or, the very man whom she had first seen with the baby, she didn’t know who to trust anymore.

Perhaps this was the child’s father.

Aria looked at the man and then back at the child; they didn’t share any resemblance.

Something within her told him he wasn’t, and yet he was something close to the child.

She couldn’t place a finger on whether he was good or bad.

"Give me the child." The man struggled.

His hair was mashed with blood, and from the looks of it, it was most likely not his.

As he rose to his feet, his right hand held his side firmly.

The blood seeped out, and Aria instantly remembered him fighting the attacker.

She couldn’t recall him getting that cut from him.

It made her wonder who else he had been fighting.

Where he had even gotten that cut from.

This was not a place for a child.

"Where is its mother?" She demanded from him, her cold hands trembling.

She had barely been able to attack the first attacker.

She doubted that she would be able to survive any attack from him, despite his wounds

And yet stubbornness wouldn’t let her refrain from defending the child.

He gave a cold smile, and his eyes showed danger. "And what gives you the right to ask such a question?"

She swallowed, but refused to let on that she was terrified to the bone.

"Because a mother would never let her baby, who is barely a month old, into the arms of a dangerous man," Aria said carelessly.

The mention of the word ’*Mother*’ seemed to instantly infuriate him because the color in his eyes flashed with danger, and she cautiously took a step back.

But the man still didn’t attack.

Rather, he gave a lucid smile. "Foolish woman. I can kill you instantly. Tear you into two."

"Then why haven’t you?" She asked.

His smile fell instantly, and despite his cut, he rose to his feet, towering over.

She swallowed hard.

"You have a sharp mouth." He spoke. "And a very unwise brain that should tell you not to meddle in affairs that do not concern you. Hand over the boy, and I will let you live."

Aria breathed heavily.

The baby was sound asleep.

She knew there was nothing she could do to protect him from this man.

The motherly instinct in her wept for this child.

She felt a surge of milk in her breasts, and soon the baby began to cry.

It was amazing.

She wasn’t the child’s mother

"Please, where is its mother?" She pleaded in agony. "He is hungry, and it’s cold. If you cared about him, you would understand this."

She couldn’t threaten him, but at least she could beg.

If not for anything, for the child’s safety.

"Give me the boy." He insisted in a cold, unwavering voice. "I will not ask you again. Be assured.

He stood with his hands outstretched.

She knew he was in excruciating pain and still insisted on taking the baby away.

The baby was now screaming louder than usual.

He looked at her sternly.

If he attacked her, she wouldn’t be able to do much.

Her wolf was small.

She had never particularly cared about shifting, so she never really learned any skills.

A struggle with this dangerous man would not only put her life at risk, but the child’s, too.

She would never forgive herself if, in a struggle, the child perhaps fell to the ground and died.

Her body shivered at the thought of it.

Realizing she had no choice, she felt the tears in her eyes burn as she very gently walked to the terrifying man.

She looked at his bloodied red hand and stifled before gently handing the baby to him.

Just when she thought the screams of the baby couldn’t get any worse, it did.

The child screamed so much her ears began to ring, and her heart broke into pieces.

She, herself, began to weep.

The man steadied himself as he rose to his feet.

He struggled with his stance as he held the screaming child with one hand and the other to his arm.

His foot made a weak thud to the ground as he dragged the other one along.

The baby wailed, and Aria simply stood, helpless.

She closed her face with a hand and began to weep.

She felt the rush of wetness in her bosom as milk began to flow into her chest.

The man staggered away, and Aria followed him very slowly.

Even though she knew she shouldn’t.

She knew she had to stay away from him.

But the more the baby wept, the more her heart bled.

The more milk she felt in her breasts.

How twisted was life?

After all, her own child had died, and somehow she could still create food for this child.

A child she had never seen.

She had never been able to love herself.

Had even tried killing herself, and somehow she had woken up.

Fate had even refused to let her die.

And now her soul bled for this baby.

The baby wailed.

She knew that with the rate at which the baby screamed, it wouldn’t take long before he died.

She followed him behind at a reasonable distance as the man staggered through the forest with the baby in his arms.

The child’s screams were the only eerie noise through the thick of the night.

He kept on going through the cold floor, and Aria followed the trail of blood even though she didn’t need to.

Otto grunted and fell to the ground.
