The Alpha's Unwanted Bride

Chapter 719: A TWIST OF FATE

Chapter 719: A TWIST OF FATE

Otto heard the woman scream behind him, even though he could barely control his surroundings.

He felt himself slowly falling to the ground.

The whole world seemed to go dizzy.

It was a daze.

The mix of the baby’s scream and the lady’s voice.

It made his mind go blank.

THE BABY!

And then he remembered.

He suddenly became alert before he hit the ground and grappled the baby around him to protect him from the impending impact.

The lady was already by his side.

She caught his arm and assisted in preventing his fall whilst he clutched the baby to his side.

"You need to stop this." She pleaded.

He pushed her away and heard the thud of her fall.

Otto tried to clear his head, but the baby’s screaming didn’t make it any easier.

He felt the loss of blood draining from his body.

He was getting weaker and weaker whilst his body refused to heal.

He leaned back against the tree nearest to him and tried to cool the baby.

"Shhhh." Otto tried to ease the boy. "You need to b..be silent. You are hurting yourself."

But Apollo kept on screaming.

It was unlike Apollo to cry this much.

Was he hungry? Was he cold?

Perhaps both.

He would get him to safety soon.

But Apollo screaming this much didn’t do them any good.

It could attract people to them, and that was the last thing they needed right now.

He felt himself go faint.

If only they could leave this place and perhaps get to the city.

Maybe he could heal himself just enough for them to leave for somewhere safe.

Otto held his side and looked down at the blood.

It was already infected and now spreading across his body.

He knew then that he didn’t have time.

He looked up and saw the woman who had followed him all this time.

And then he remembered her.

She was the woman in the market this afternoon.

The very same one who had given him a dirty slap.

The one whose front bodice of her dress had been damped with what seemed to be breast milk.

His eyes went down to her front bodice again and saw that it was damp.

He looked down at Apollo, who was still screaming, and yet his high, shrill voice had been subdued.

He was getting weaker, he was dying, and yet still screaming.

He didn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon.

He doubted Apollo was going to stop.

Otto felt his eyes cloud up in pain.

It had just been two of them for such a long time.

He thought they had a bond.

Why was Apollo seemingly acting so strangely?

He tried to rock him, sing to him.

But he didn’t stop.

He held him closer to his chest, and yet nothing happened.

Rather, the screaming went on, but his voice was weaker and weaker.

"Please." He heard the woman’s soft voice. "He is hungry. Let him feed, I beg you."

Otto grumbled and drew the baby closer to him.

Apollo continued to weep, and soon he began to cough.

Aggressively.

He coughed so much he began to choke.

At the same time, he resumed screaming whenever given the opportunity.

Otto was terrified.

He turned to the woman, who was no longer so far away, and looked back at Apollo.

He gently gripped his frail body and realized that he wasn’t doing him any favor.

Otto looked at the lady and sneered. "If you try anything, I will rip you limb from limb."

And he made no false promises.

He intended to do exactly as he had said.

She nodded.

And he gently opened his right arm to her view.

She quickly rushed and picked up Apollo.

The moment she had him in her arms, Apollo went hush.

It shocked him.

It was as though she had bewitched him.

Otto watched in amazement as she undid the front of her blouse enough for the baby to feed.

And instantly, all went completely silent.

She gently rocked him against her.

Otto breathed a sigh of relief knowing Apollo was now fine.

And now, it broke his heart knowing that Apollo didn’t belong to him.

He never did.

As the blood and soul drained from his body, he felt realization hit him.

He could never really protect him.

He was always going to be a danger to him.

No matter where they ran, no matter the year.

No matter what.

Apollo was always going to be a target as long as Otto was alive.

He was drying.

He rubbed his neck where the infection had already spread.

His wolf was dying too quickly.

The effect of him being a rabid wolf.

He weakly dropped to the floor and looked up at her. "What is your name?"

"Aria." She said as she held onto the boy protectively.

"Aria." He said her name gently. "Do you have a family?"

She looked worried but shook her head. "No, not anymore. I’m all alone."

Otto sighed. "Do you care for the boy?"

He watched as she looked down at Apollo, and all he saw was love when she looked back at him.

"Yes, I do." She admitted.

He felt his bones getting weaker and weaker. "People are hunting him. Never tell anyone about him. Never take off the emerald necklace on his neck or all beings will perish."

She looked down at the boy. "What about his family? His mother isn’t she-

"He has none." Otto cut bluntly. "I see the effect you have on him. He has never been that way with anyone. Go far away from here. Leave everything behind."

He didn’t need to tell her about Xaden or anyone else.

The less she knew, the safer she was.

He took off his diamond bracelet from his arm and tossed it to her.

"Sell this." He instructed. "It should provide you with a decent living for years."

Otto smiled at Apollo.

Something within him was telling him the child was safe.

"His name is Apollo. Make sure you never-

Everything went blank.

"My Lord." A servant said, making an abrupt stop in the throne room.

He quickly bowed to the figure that backed him.

"A message has been sent by the witch Marie." He said.

"Go on." A deep voice replied.

"She..... well..... she says that. You have a child. My lord."

The man stiffened instantly.

The man turned toward the light, and Xaden’s face showed.

His perfect dark hair settled on his forehead while a loose loc hung over his brow.

His handsome face that had gone weak with sorrow and anguish still head its initial beauty.

And yet this new revelation brought in light.

He was going to find them.
