The Alpha's Unwanted Bride

Chapter 762: THE SEARChapter FOR MOONSTONE

Chapter 762: THE SEARCH FOR MOONSTONE

Clank. Clank. Clank.

Came the sound of the axes hitting against the iron ore.

The men now over thirty were burrowing through the mine.

Aiden stood there with his hands folded as he watched them.

Who would have known, that they would ever find moonstone in this deserted territory of all places.

A place so backward that his father had never for once visited it in his entire reign as Alpha and yet here he was.

Wasting away his youth here.

The last known Alpha that had been here was his great-great-great-great-great grandfather.

And it had been to annex the territory and claim it as his own during the pack wars.

It had initially been seen as an insignificant waste of time then, it was too small and virtually at the edge of pack world.

Even desert wolves were better than them here.

However in the grand scheme of things, as the future would play itself, it would be in the least desirable of all places that the most important stone to wolves would come to be found.

How Ironic fate was Aiden thought to himself.

If they did in fact find the moonstones, they would be the most powerful wolves that existed.

Even more powerful than the royal family.

The moonstone could control the shifting and strength of the wolf pack whom possessed them.

Making them more superior.

A drop of tear from the goddess herself was supposedly what had created the moonstone.

If he were at home by now, he would be indulging in a threesome with two she wolves of his choice.

Rather he was stuck with local sex from peasants

“My Lord.” Leo said calling him to his attention.

Aiden turned around to see Leo bringing him a large worn out book.

“The Financial records of the pack you requested.” Leo informed.

Aiden received it with a nod and opened the worn out pages.

He had requested them to see the proper accounting on how money was being spent in the pack.

Moreover they needed money to finance the digging of the mines.

He busied himself by fishing through its contents.

“Changes will need to be made here.” He replied.

He had been trained from the moment he could read and write on how to manage the pack.

This was a little one, but he was wise enough to know there were visible consistencies in them.

“Who handles the accounts of the pack?” He requested.

“Gamma Lionel.” Leo said after a pause. “He wasn’t too keen with me bringing you the financial records.”

Aiden nodded.

Gamma Lionel had been custodian of this tiny pack, the exact same way his father and forefathers had been.

The same way his son Aston would have been.

Gamma Lionel had made a smart attempt to give a perfect falsified copy of the account.

But he knew better.

He Aiden knew from what he had seen of the Gamma and his son, they were nothing to write home about.

He didn’t need to find the original copy, all he needed to do, was give a new directive.

He went through paid taxes, animals, managing the pack and then he found himself gazing through the pages of local debtors.

He was about to flip over to the next page when he saw a name stand out.

Joe Fox-worth owing a million gold.

“Who is this owing the pack a million gold coins.” Aiden said in disbelief as his eyes ran through the page.

No one else in the pack even owed that much in the first place.

Perhaps just nine hundred gold coins here and there, barely even making it to a thousand for a singular person.

However this person somehow owed the pack one million gold coins.

There was no way anyone in the town could even afford that.

It was ridiculous!

The pack was too small for that.

“And why the hell would he even owe the pack such amount?” Aiden snapped.

“He isn’t directly owing the pack.” Leo pointed out. “He is owing the brown brothers and the brown brothers are owing the pack. So it’s more by proxy.”

“I’m seeing that this Joe is unemployed.” Aiden read through in disbelief. “How does someone like him expect to even pay such.”

“His wife…. You may know her. Penelope. She is the pack healer.” Leo said and that quickly caught Aiden’s attention. “Her husband is a drunk and a gambler. She and her daughter are the breadwinners. They bring the bread home. The debt is on their head also, not just his.”

Ruby.

Now this was interesting.

So she wasn’t just a peasant girl parading herself with an empty ego but she was also a debtor.

How ludicrous.

He knew very much how to take this to his own advantage.

He smiled cunningly to himself.

“I see.” Aiden nodded. “And the daughter. What about her?”

“Ruby” Leo asked and a smile crept up his face before concealing it immediately. “She is the most beautiful girl in the entire pack. Just a bit too headstrong. Does what she wants, when she wants.”

“And she doesn’t have a mate?” Aiden cocked a brow, curiously.

“No, not yet. She is a late bloomer I believe.” He said with a shrug. “I don’t really know much about her to be honest. Most people don’t. Her family, they actually like to keep to themselves. Well except for on one of the father’s drunken nights

Aiden nodded.

He understood very much.

He handed the financial records over to Leo.

“I’ve seen what I needed to see.” Aiden informed.

Later when it was almost dark, Aiden was already by the pack house walls.

He came down from his horse and strode to the old doors.

“My Lord.” A Beta came to him.

Aiden remembered him.

He had tasked him with keeping an eye on Bale.

“Yes?” Aiden asked in question.

The young Beta leaned in to tell Aiden in his ear and Aiden’s face went red in complete rage.
