Chapter 765: HIS CHOICE

AIDEN’S POV

Aiden had been listening to Leo speak to him on issues of the pack at the dinner table when the doors burst open.

They had returned from the mines and were going over important details that needed to be fixed especially now that he was going to be stay here for a while.

He was seated at the head of the table, his fur coat draped on his shoulder, while he oversaw the room.

The wolves he had chosen as his top officials were seated on the table with him.

Bale wasn’t there.

Bale did not like such gatherings.

Preferred to stay in his room.

He wondered what exactly was even the point of he even coming here in the first place.

Once the doors were burst open, he watched she-wolves troop in one after the other.

They had platters of food in their hands.

Some carried wine jugs.

Water jugs.

Fruits.

Two carried a large tray of grilled pork with an apple in the mouth.

And then he saw her.

The girl who drove him insane.

Ruby.

She was behind, a tray of exotic fruits on her arm.

She walked so majestically.

Despite her cheap clothes and wild curls, she looked like she was born a member of the royal family.

If he were crazy, he would have said she could have easily passed for the Queen’s daughter.

He watched as she walked over and placed the tray on the table.

He noticed that she intentionally avoided his gaze.

Most of the servants had gone, Jasmine was among the few slowly pushing through to leave.

He waved his hand and the nearest guard came up to his him.

He whispered to the guard and the guard nodded.

“Lord Aiden has requested that the rest of the maids remain until dinner is over.” The guard announced.

Aiden watched as she turned around and saw her face go red in anger.

She had no idea what he had in plans for her.

He snapped his finger and a she wolf hurried to his side and began to pour his wine.

Aiden drank while the remaining wolves on the table chattered.

The room was loud and music was playing.

He watched her through his eyes and he saw that she had her face stuck elsewhere.

He resumed his meal.

There was still time.

The men all laughed and made jokes while he remained eating and drinking from his wine.

Amidst the entire chatter he could tell the effect Ruby had on all the men.

They would turn by the nearest opportunity just to gaze her.

It was as though she had hypnotized them.

As though she was a magnet.

She was going to be his plaything until he had tamed her.

Until he had punished her.

She was just a toy and yet he felt his stomach churn uncomfortably when one of the young omegas made eye contact with her.

To his shock, she blushed and it infuriated him.

He leaned back in his chair and once he was done with his meal, he snapped his finger at the guard once again.

The guard leaned and Aiden whispered into his ears.

The guard nodded and walked up ahead.

“Lord Aiden would be staying in the pack with us for a while.” The guard announced and the room went quiet. “As is his right, he demands the services of maidens to seek all of his needs. However he has decided to choose only one.”

RUBY’S POV

Those words startled me.

He was going to stay here for a while? How long was a while.

I was overcome with dread.

What were in the mines that he was so obsessed with that he had even abandoned his sophisticated pack to be in the lowest of all territories in wolf world.

For what?

A mine?

It was a bad enough having to see his pompous face here and now he was going to be here for a while?

And what did he mean he was going to seek the services of a single maiden.

It was a tradition for Alphas and high ranking wolves to have she wolves assigned to their needs.

The she wolves were the closest thing they could get as a Luna while far away from home.

To prevent the Alphas from growing attachment to a single she wolf, multiple were designated to him.

And then I remembered what Alice had said.

Had Alice actually been right?

Was it true that she had built a soft spot with him just overnight?

And he was possible her mate?

The idea that he would choose a single maiden to answer to his needs when he could have many at his fingertips was beyond me.

Unless Alice had been right.

And it was true.

Maybe she was his mate.

Perhaps I had imagined the hostility he carried earlier that morning.

I sighed heavily.

I turned to my side and made eye contact with Alice.

She seemed giddy with excitement.

I smiled back at her.

I turned and looked back up at Aiden.

His face was solemn and expressionless as usual.

Cold and handsome.

Perhaps he wasn’t as awful as I had seen him to be.

I mean he was awful, but maybe for Alice he had a soft spot for.

I shrugged to myself.

“And he has already made his choice on which of the she wolves would be his handmaiden.” The guard announced.

Alice was standing by my side and i could feel her excitement.

If she was allowed to speak she might have screamed.

And they called out the name.

I remained standing in my position itching to leave.

I realized Alice hadn’t stepped out and so I turned to look at her.

Shock was written all over her face.

I was lost.

Had he chosen someone else other than her?

I knew it.

I knew he was a cruel bastard.

I turned around to see who he had called out to, but no one had stepped out.

Something was off.

I looked around and saw they were looking at me.

“Ruby.”

It was my name they had called!
